Key Responsibilities Performs trash pickup and diversions throughout assigned areas on campus. Landscaping functions; weeding, planting, cultivating, watering, fertilizing, and light pruning of shrubs, hedges, small tree, flowers. Use hand lawn mowers and power equipment. Irrigation repair. Assists in all University functions, responds to emergency situations and other duties as assigned. Knowledge Skills and Abilities The ideal candidate will have strong horticultural knowledge and hands-on experience in plant identification, planting, trimming, and caring for flowers, turf, and shrubs. They should be skilled in general landscaping and grounds maintenance tasks, including operating motor vehicles, motor-driven equipment, and tools specific to the trade, with proper care and usage. Solid communication skills, oral, verbal, and written, are essential for positive interaction within the University. A proven work history and ability to work effectively in a hands-on capacity are also required. Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence." Education and Experience • Equivalent to a high school diploma and one year of experience in the care and maintenance of landscaped areas or in general grounds maintenance work, or in related manual labor required. Physical Summary Heavy work - Job involves lifting more than 40 pounds.
