MRNY is a multi-service organization. Our Adult Literacy Department offers English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes and Civics classes. The ESOL/Civics Instructor is a bargaining unit position, and will work 40 hours/week in Queens and Brooklyn, teaching contextualized English and Citizenship Prep classes with student-centered methodology, based on the mission statement of MRNY. They will also support administrative tasks such as class intake, Best Plus testing, and student assessments. They will connect students to services and our organizing committees at MRNY as well. This is a bargaining unit position.
Key Responsibilities but not limited to:
Planning:
Create ESOL/Civics course outlines and unit and lesson plans, and related materials
Integrate certain thematic content and materials into lessons as required by funders
Upload course outline, unit plans, and materials to the G-drive.
Research and develop new resources and materials to enhance the teaching curricula, with emphasis on social justice connected to students' needs, MRNY policy, directions, and committees.
Instruction:
Provide class instruction in ESOL and Citizenship prep classes
Deliver content material in ways that consider students' levels and learning styles, the need to pace and scaffold information, and the need to balance the 4 skills, vocabulary, and grammar skill development
Employ classroom management strategies to improve student retention
Assessment/Communication with Students:
Reach out to students in advance of the first class-session to confirm attendance and answer questions.
Provide initial assessment and initial orientation for each student in the class to complement case management orientation.
Follow up with absent students as needed to ensure their continued participation and document it in Salesforce. Work closely with case managers and program administration to address attendance issues and maintain student retention goals.
Informally meet with students individually to review progress and assess the need for additional help. This includes flagging referrals to the case manager.
Volunteer collaboration:
Coordinate volunteers for civics classes to support with mock interviews.
Administrative Tasks:
Enter student attendance in Salesforce in a timely manner including absence notes.
Administer BEST Plus tests as needed during intake, late intake and post-testing time periods.
Analyze BEST Plus test scores to monitor and document students' progress.
Support program intake related activities including student information sessions, appointment scheduling, student registrations, student orientations, student file management, and attendance related tasks.
Attend program administrative trainings for updates on new administrative procedures and Salesforce updates.
Respond to funder related requests as needed.
Meet all funder requirements, including meeting professional development hours, as well as reporting (i.e. monthly progress notes, Individual Service Plans) and class instructional requirements.
Enter weekly mock interview outcomes in Salesforce.
Enter naturalization exam dates, and naturalization interview outcomes for all students who are scheduled.
Read/Reply to emails in a timely manner.
Meetings and Training:
Attend all mandatory Staff meetings and other adult literacy department meetings as required.
Participate in conferences and professional development training according to funders' requirements.

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
The Organizing Manager (Central & Western NY) will support with leading and managing the Field Organizing Department, which consists of organizers in eight regions across the state who undertake various activities-including campaign development and implementation, volunteer engagement and mobilization, and community education-to advance the NYCLU's mission and strategic priorities.
The Organizing Manager will be responsible for supervising and developing Field staff in the Central & Western NY regions, which includes our Syracuse, Rochester, and Buffalo offices. The Organizing Manager will contribute to expanding NYCLU's statewide presence in regional offices by working with Communications, Legal, Policy, and the Education Policy Center to tackle local policy issues requiring a statewide strategy and approach. They will expand the NYCLU's network of support and alliances by identifying strategic allies, increasing our visibility, and building new partnerships that will strengthen and broaden our impact.
The Organizing Manager also serves as a member of the NYCLU's Middle Management Team. This position is a full-time, salaried, exempt position with the NYCLU. The person in this position will be a mid-level manager.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervise and manage a team of Sr. Organizers and/or Organizers staff in the Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse offices.
Foster the professional development of Field Department staff using, among other tools, performance evaluations and professional development and training plans.
Support the Field Organizing Director to plan, monitor, track, and Department's budgeting and spending within their assigned regions.
Work with the Director, Assistant Director and other Organizing Managers to implement Department wide plans, including mapping organizational relationships, trainings for organizers, community workshops and educational offerings, volunteer engagement and mobilization.
Serve as a member of the Middle Management Team on program and organizational matters, including hiring committees and participation in at least three NYCLU issue areas.
Support the development of the NYCLU's community education initiatives, which includes (but is not limited to) “Know Your Rights” workshops, skill-based trainings, and other presentations.
Assist in the development of educational and organizing materials and coordinate messaging to the NYCLU's base.
Supervise Field Department staff in developing and facilitating coalitions with key community members, groups, and grassroots organizations to achieve shared goals.

Closely coordinate with other NYCLU departments to develop and execute NYCLU campaign plans and rapid response actions to urgent, unanticipated threats to civil rights and civil liberties.
Oversee the region-specific development and implementation of base-building and organizing plans that expand the NYCLU's base to reflect our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and center our work in impacted communities.
Supervise the planning and execution of statewide lobby days, annual legislative conferences, and community engagement events.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum 5 years of political, community or issue advocacy organizing experience.
2-3 years supervising organizers on volunteer engagement and/or public education campaigns.
Experience working with elected officials in the State Legislature and local elected officials.
Excellent public speaking, writing, and communication skills.
Substantial experience in legislative, community or political organizing work.
Strong ability to prioritize and complete tasks, with a proven ability to proactively set & meet deadline.
Demonstrated ability to advocate effectively, including an ability to initiate and follow through on campaign effort.

QUALIFICATIONS
A combined minimum of 6 years of experience in political, community or issue advocacy organizing, including substantial demonstrated experience leading organizing campaigns at the local, state or national levels and 2-3 years managing a team. This includes experience working with organizational membership, volunteers, directly impacted communities, and/or community organizers.
Track record of training, developing and supporting new organizers.
Demonstrated success in building organizational infrastructure.

Make the Road New York (MRNY) is seeking a full time Bilingual Youth Advocate Social Worker to be a part of our School Based Team at Bushwick Campus. This position requires a flexible schedule. Applicants must be available to work occasional evenings and weekends. The Bilingual Youth Advocate Social Worker will be partnering with four high schools in Bushwick Campus Community School. Our School Based Team works inside the campus supporting all four schools. A community school is a hub of resources, programs, and services that contribute to meeting the needs and building on the strengths of the whole student, family and broader community. It supports a culture of community where trust and accountability among all stakeholders are nurtured and strengthened. This position is a full-time in person position, however employer will use best efforts to allow 1 day of remote work per week.
Key Responsibilities but not limited to:
Provide confidential and supportive counseling and case management to a selected cohort of chronically absent students

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
The NYCLU seeks an experienced, innovative, and dynamic racial justice legal expert who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced organization. The candidate should have the ability to skillfully implement and/or support the NYCLU's interdepartmental approach to racial justice and broad docket of civil rights and civil liberties issues. This position will play a key role in executing the NYCLU's Racial Justice Center's strategic priorities.
The staff attorney will have a particular focus on the intersectionality of racial justice with NYCLU priority areas, such as environmental racism, Indigenous rights, and restorative justice. The staff attorney will utilize a range of strategies to advance racial justice in New York State, including legal research, identifying legislative priorities and threats, joining, and seeking new litigation, and civic engagement, including submitting public comments, testifying at hearings, Know Your Rights education, movement lawyering, coalition development, and strategic communications.
This position is situated in NYCLU's Racial Justice Center and directly reports to the Racial Justice Center Director.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Independently review state and local legislation and engage in related legislative advocacy and lobbying in connection with the Racial Justice Center strategic priorities.
Developing and conducting litigation in federal and state courts and in administrative forums. All NYCLU attorneys are responsible for identifying possible litigation and advocacy, preparing pleadings, motions, and briefs; conducting discovery; presenting oral arguments; and handling all aspects of appeals.
Engaging in pre-litigation analysis including evaluating and following up on intakes; conducting factual investigations and legal analyses; utilizing the Freedom of Information Law; and drafting demand letters.
Develop strong relationships with civil rights advocacy organizations and represent the NYCLU in multi-organization coalitions and working groups.
Work in close collaboration with the NYCLU's legal department on developing RJC litigation strategies to promote and expand racial justice litigation priorities including close collaboration with the legal department in developing claims, preparing pleadings and briefs, conducting discovery and depositions, handle hearings and trials, and argue motions and appeals.
Prepares and delivers testimony at public hearings and drafting public comments.
In collaboration with NYCLU communications staff, provide expert commentary to the media, participate in media briefings, and contribute to op-eds, blog posts, and other publications.
Work closely with staff across the NYCLU-including the Education Policy Center, Legal, Policy, and Field Departments, and our Regional Offices-to ensure that the NYCLU has an integrated approach to furthering the RJC's mission.
QUALIFICATIONS
At least 3-5 years of relevant experience.
Must reside in or plan to relocate to New York
Must be licensed to practice in New York State.
Experience with litigation, drafting and amending legislation and legislative advocacy, community engagement, and leading legal priorities.

THE DEPARTMENT: MRNY's health department promotes the health and well-being of our community members. They advocate for improved access to healthcare for immigrants and provide health services to community members. The health department combines one-on-one assistance, helping individuals and families navigate the health system and apply for health insurance; operates two food pantries, and creates a safe space where TGNCIQ community members can obtain necessary health information. MRNY's health department also runs a promotora program, training community members to do outreach and screening for food stamps (SNAP) and health insurance benefits, and refers eligible families to apply. The health department also runs a community health worker (CHW) training program and has several projects where CHWs do home visits with families who have asthma or other chronic illnesses. The health team also leads campaigns at the city and state levels to increase access to care and coverage for immigrants in New York.
Current Opening:
The Community Health Worker (CHW) is a bargaining unit position based in Queens and works 40 hours weekly. They conduct in-person/telephonic/virtual home visits throughout NYC to improve the overall health of the patients with chronic conditions and aim to reduce the number of disease-related hospital visits. The Community Health Worker will work in collaboration with New York Presbyterian (NYP) clinics, doctors' practices, and other organizations to conduct outreach to potential program participants and accept referrals. Additionally, they will hold weekly practice sessions at NYP for warm handoffs. The CHW maintains thorough case records of services provided, advice, and referrals, and enters the cases into the appropriate databases. The CHW connects clients and community members to all MRNY services, events, and campaigns.
Key Responsibilities but not limited to:
Conduct outreach to potential program participants .
Enroll new patients into the Home Visiting intervention program, as required.
Hold weekly practice sessions at the NYP clinic to meet with potential program participants.
Contact all active participants enrolled at least once every two weeks for a general wellness check-in and to inquire about their well-being and immediate needs.
Provide ongoing health education, support, and reinforcement, assist in scheduling appointments, and follow up with service providers to support the participant's needs (prescriptions, appointments, etc.). SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
The Organizing Manager (Eastern NY) will support with leading and managing the Field Organizing Department, which consists of organizers in eight regions across the state who undertake various activities-including campaign development and implementation, volunteer engagement and mobilization, and community education-to advance the NYCLU's mission and strategic priorities.
The Organizing Manager will be responsible for supervising and developing Field staff in the Eastern NY regions, which includes our Capital Region, Hudson Valley, and Long Island offices. The Organizing Manager will contribute to expanding NYCLU's statewide presence in regional offices by working with Communications, Legal, Policy, and the Education Policy Center to tackle local policy issues requiring a statewide strategy and approach. They will expand the NYCLU's network of support and alliances by identifying strategic allies, increasing our visibility, and building new partnerships that will strengthen and broaden our impact.
The Organizing Manager also serves as a member of the NYCLU's Middle Management Team. This position is a full-time, salaried, exempt position with the NYCLU. The person in this position will be a mid-level manager.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervise and manage a team of Regional Directors and/or Organizers staff in the Capital Region, Hudson Valley, and Long Island offices.
Foster the professional development of Field Department staff using, among other tools, performance evaluations and professional development and training plans.
Support the Field Organizing Director to plan, monitor, track, and Department's budgeting and spending within their assigned regions.
Work with the Director, Assistant Director and other Organizing Managers to implement Department wide plans, including mapping organizational relationships, trainings for organizers, community workshops and educational offerings, volunteer engagement and mobilization.
Serve as a member of the Middle Management Team on program and organizational matters, including hiring committees and participation in at least three NYCLU issue areas.
Support the development of the NYCLU's community education initiatives, which includes (but is not limited to) “Know Your Rights” workshops, skill-based trainings, and other presentations.
Assist in the development of educational and organizing materials and coordinate messaging to the NYCLU's base.
Supervise Field Department staff in developing and facilitating coalitions with key community members, groups, and grassroots organizations to achieve shared goals.

Supervise the planning and execution of statewide lobby days, annual legislative conferences, and community engagement events.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum 5 years of political, community or issue advocacy organizing experience.
2-3 years supervising organizers on volunteer engagement and/or public education campaigns.
Experience working with elected officials in the State Legislature and local elected officials.
Excellent public speaking, writing, and communication skills.
Substantial experience in legislative, community or political organizing work.
Strong ability to prioritize and complete tasks, with a proven ability to proactively set & meet deadlines.

Legal and Support Services at Make the Road New York:
The Department of Legal and Support Services at MRNY works to strengthen the organization's organizing work by (1) helping to envision and implement leverage strategies (including strategic litigation) that help win our organizing campaigns; (2) providing technical legal support for policy work; and (3) providing legal and support services to high-need immigrant communities and help meet the immediate needs of MRNY's members. The Department currently employs approximately 50 attorneys and advocates. Our legal team is integrated into all aspects of the organization's work.
Current Opening:
We are currently hiring a Supervising Attorney to oversee our Workplace Justice practice. Our team currently includes 4 other employment attorneys and 3 paralegals who handle a wide range of employment-related legal matters facing our community members, including wage theft, workplace discrimination, paid sick leave, retaliation, paid family leave and health and safety issues on the job. Our Workplace Justice legal team collaborates closely with and provides strategic support on worker organizing campaigns to improve and enforce labor standards at the city and state levels. The Supervising Attorney will supervise legal support on workplace justice policy and organizing campaigns. The Supervising Attorney will also have a small docket of workplace justice cases that will be predominantly wage theft and employment discrimination cases.
Key Responsibilities but not limited to:
Oversee the provision of workplace justice-related legal services to MRNY's membership base of low-income New Yorkers in Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island and Westchester County. The team handles a docket that involves a range of legal representation and advocacy, from direct negotiation and resolution of cases, filing administrative claims, to multi-plaintiff federal court litigation.
Provide exceptional supervision and support to the attorneys on this team.
Work closely with MRNY members and organizers to envision and implement strategic affirmative litigation projects and other strategies that strengthen MRNY's workplace justice organizing.
Provide technical legal support for MRNY's robust workplace justice-related policy and organizing campaigns, including drafting legislation; training other staff and members on the legal aspects of campaigns; writing reports; lobbying visits in support of policy campaigns; drafting materials for various audiences on our key policy campaigns and victories; responding to media inquiries; and representing MRNY at meetings with elected officials and coalition partners.

Planning:
Create ESOL/Civics course outlines and unit and lesson plans, and related materials

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
The NYCLU seeks a diverse group of current law students for Summer 2026 internships. During our 10-week program (May 26, 2026 to August 7, 2026), the interns will engage in legal research and writing to support litigation, advocacy, and legislative priorities across New York State. This intern will be based in the Racial Justice Center and will work with the Education Policy Center on selected projects.
The NYCLU fights for every child's right to an education. The Education Policy Center works to ensure public schools and institutions that serve young people in New York empower students, treat them fairly and equally, and create safe environments for them to learn and grow. The Center advances its agenda through legislative advocacy, litigation, organizing, and public education.
The Racial Justice Center (RJC) was established in 2023 to expand and deepen the NYCLU's racial justice portfolio. The NYCLU Racial Justice Center is in deep collaboration with the NYCLU departments and centers with all of the NYCLU priorities. The RJC also leads its own advocacy, legislation, and litigation docket. Primarily focuses on environmental justice, Indigenous rights, and restorative efforts.

Current Opening:
The Community Health Worker (CHW) is a bargaining unit position based in Queens and works 40 hours weekly. They conduct in-person/telephonic/virtual home visits throughout NYC to improve the overall health of the patients with chronic conditions and aim to reduce the number of disease-related hospital visits. The Community Health Worker will work in collaboration with New York Presbyterian (NYP) clinics, doctors' practices, and other organizations to conduct outreach to potential program participants and accept referrals. Additionally, they will hold weekly practice sessions at NYP for warm handoffs. The CHW maintains thorough case records of services provided, advice, and referrals, and enters the cases into the appropriate databases. Key Responsibilities but not limited to:

Hold weekly practice sessions at the NYP clinic to meet with potential program participants.
Contact all active participants enrolled at least once every two weeks for a general wellness check-in and to inquire about their well-being and immediate needs.
Provide ongoing health education, support, and reinforcement, assist in scheduling appointments, and follow up with service providers to support the participant's needs (prescriptions, appointments, etc.). Assist participants to continue to take their medications as directed and to contact their Primary Care Provider (PCP) regarding any problems (medications, symptoms, illness, needing refills, etc.)
Provide participants with referrals for social and health services as necessary. Identify resources or services appropriate for participants' needs.
Complete all required case documentation, which includes (but are not limited to): Assessments, follow up notes, and productivity sheets. Enter all patient information in a timely fashion into several different databases, including uploading consent documents.
Accompany other CHWs with their scheduled in person home visits, as required.
Participate in meetings and trainings with the New York Presbyterian Hospital staff.
Write 1 anecdote per case related to clients' progress and submit to the NYP Supervisor and the MRNY supervisor
Facilitate health workshops for students in MRNY's CHW training and at other community wide events.
Support MRNY's CHW training program by participating in a CHW panel, and helping with practice interview skills for CHW students.
Attend scheduled mandatory staff and department meetings and trainings at Make the Road New York.
