Mammographer job description

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• Radiologic Technologist specializing in Radiology credentialed from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required. Requires completion of a federally approved 40 hour mammography training course within 3 Months (90 days) of hire and completion of 25 supervised mammography studies to meet (TDSHS) requirements.
• Radiologic Technologist specializing in General Practice credentialed from the Texas Medical Radiologic Technologist Certification Program obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.
• Radiologic Technologist specializing in Mammography credentialed from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) preferred.

Education:

• High school diploma/GED with 2 years of experience, or Associate's degree, or Technical degree required.

Additional Preferences

• 3D Mammography experience is a plus

Pay Rate: $40+ an hour, plus travel per diem

Responsibilities:

• Performing mammography exams on all patients for the purpose of breast cancer detection while delivering exceptional patient care

• Maintaining compliance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures

• Evaluating images for quality and facility standards

• Maintaining equipment according to Infection Control procedures and performing quality control procedures as requested

• Following facilities quality assurance guidelines and maintaining patient confidentiality/HIPAA

• Performing screening and diagnostic mammography imaging procedures according to department procedures and protocols

• Adjusting equipment and instructing patient to eliminate imaging artifacts

• Evaluating imaging results for positioning and technical accuracy

• Informing physicians of preliminary findings as requested according to department guidelines/procedures

• Distributing completed test results to physicians and service providers according to department guidelines/procedures

• Maintaining patient charts, entering diagnosis and billing codes, logging data into patient information systems and updating file systems for tests performed according to department guidelines/procedures

• Appropriate cleaning and sterilizing equipment and work space

• Recognizing equipment malfunctions and readjusting equipment or writing/calling in for repair

• Instructing patients in pretest preparation, answering questions, and explaining procedures according to department guidelines/procedures

• Maintaining current Permits to Practice in all states in which services are performed

• Performing equipment quality checks and troubleshooting problems. Calling for service and notifying all pertinent team members

• Following quality assurance guidelines and maintaining patient confidentiality

• Performing additional duties as required

Experience Required for Your Success

Required Experience:

• Technologist background with a minimum of 2 years mammography clinical experience

RequiredLicense/Certification:

• Valid ARRT license, registered in Mammography

• Valid CPR certificate, as needed

• Valid state license

Preferred Qualifications:

• Strong communication skills both written and verbal needed

• Interact with client personnel and team members in an autonomous, responsible, professional and ethical manner

• Must be flexible, reliable and demonstrate sound judgment and initiative

• Strong positive change agent

In this role the successful candidate will function as a Mammography Technologist in performing examinations of patients of all ages for the purpose of assisting in the diagnosis of patient illness. The Mammography Technologist interacts and communicates professionally with physicians, patients, family members and team members. The Mammography Technologist must be able to function independently but also work collaboratively with the Nursing and Ancillary staff members to provide exceptional patient care.

Full Time, Weekdays. 40 hours/week
Pay Range is between $31.83-$47.75/hr, depending on years of relevant and like experience.

POSITION SUMMARY

Performs mammographic procedures at a level that does not require constant supervision. Acts as a problem-solving leader and organizer by communicating well with staff, radiologists and patients.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Special Qualifications

+ ARRT registered in Radiologic Technology

+ ARRT registered or registry eligible in Mammography - must obtain registry within 3 months from date of hire.

+ BLS required by end of conditional period.

+ Continuing education to meet ARRT and MQSA requirements

Knowledge, Skill and Ability

+ Must be able to perform mammography exams, evaluate them for quality, and present optimal images for interpretation.

+ Need to have basic clerical skills.

+ Must have thorough knowledge of quality control requirements for mammography.

Experience

One year of experience preferred

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES

+ Lifting, moving and helping patients.

+ Very busy and fast-paced - must be able to add on patients as needed

+ While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to constantly stand and walk. The employee frequently is required to stoop, crouch, and twist. The employee is occasionally required to kneel, squat, and sit.

+ The employee must be able to consistently support, push, pull and/or lift up to 10 pounds, frequently support, push, pull and/or lift up to 30 pounds and occasionally support, push, pull and/or transfer up to 50 pounds (for example, moving a patient from a wheelchair to a bed.)

+ Functional physical demands include, manual dexterity, fine motor skills and reaching. The following senses will be needed for essential duties of the job: speech, vision, hearing, and touch.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

+ Performs high quality mammography procedures

+ Coordinates clinical information and previous imaging exams and reports as indicated

+ Monitors and cleans equipment and reports equipment problems to supervisor

+ Completes all routine mammography paperwork with proper documentation

+ Answers phones and makes appointments.

+ Participates in quality improvement.
