Summary:
The Mammography Technologist implements orders from physicians and assists with procedures to help diagnose and treat breast disease in patients. They perform screenings and diagnostic imaging procedures to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of breast diseases. They ensure accurate imaging, maintain compliance with radiation safety standards, and provide compassionate care to patients. Working collaboratively with physicians and healthcare teams, they prioritize patient safety and comfort while maintaining high-quality imaging practices.
Essential Work Functions:
Explain procedures to patients and answer questions if they arise
Position patient appropriately for imaging procedure
Maintain medical imaging equipment, ensure machines are functioning properly, and organize the procedure room for optimal safety and efficiency
Monitor image quality during procedures, adjusting as needed to achieve diagnostic accuracy
Collaborate effectively with radiologists and healthcare teams as necessary
Follow hospital policies, safety regulations, and infection control procedures
Practice infection prevention through consistent hand hygiene, use of PPE, and isolation precautions

The Mammography Technologist will work with the Breast Care team for the care of patients with actual or potential breast health concerns in conjunction with Ohio Valley Imaging Center. The Mammography Technologist reports to the Breast Nurse Care Coordinator.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operate mammography unit to include radiologist assisted procedures such as stereotactic biopsies, ultrasound guided breast biopsies, cyst aspirations and needle localizations or produce images of the breasts for diagnostic purposes under direction of a physician.
Follow established quality standards for imaging techniques and ensure staff compliance.
Follow established guidelines MQSA (and other) accreditation, including all associated quality assurance measures, policies, employee training and ongoing competence training.
Use radiation safety measures and protection devices to comply with government regulations and to ensure the safety of patients and staff.
In cooperation with Breast Nurse Care Coordinator, follows established guidelines pertaining to the following:
Resource to women with breast health concerns, i.e., teaches breast self-examination, answers questions about breast health concerns and provides breast health lectures as needed.
Provides education to patients concerning what can be expected prior to, during and after diagnostic and treatment procedures.
Provides input towards the development of patient educational materials.
Provides staff and community education as required.
Participates in professional growth and development opportunities by attending various meetings, conferences, and courses.
Demonstrates awareness of patient's needs as a total person (physical, spiritual, emotional, intellectual, cultural, etc.), consistent with patient's age and development level.
Demonstrates knowledge of and follows Departmental and Ohio Valley guidelines related to guest services activities in the performance of the duties and responsibilities of the position.
Adheres to and follows Ohio Valley'spolicies, procedures, and compliance Program.
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
ARRT-(R)(M) certified (current and active, including required CEU's).
ODH License (current and active, including required CEU's for MQSA/ACR accreditation)
CPR certified.
At least one (1) year of experience in mammographic imaging.
Demonstrates sensitivity toward unique patient and family needs associated with this environment.
Understands MQSA accreditation possesses the knowledge to meet the requirements of program.

Current compliance with MQSA and ARRT continuing education and experience requirements
Expertise in mammography positioning and exposure techniques
Strong communication skills - educate, reassure, and empower patients
Preferred: Experience with ultrasound core and stereotactic biopsies
Preferred: Knowledge of RIS/PACS and database software
Active, unrestricted licensure in the state of assignment
Willingness to temporarily relocate to assigned centers

The Registered Mammography Technologist produces high quality breast imaging procedures while following guidelines established by the ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologist), ACR (American College of Radiology) and MQSA (Mammography Quality Standards Act and Program). They will perform all screening, diagnostic, invasive, and DEXA (dual energy X-ray absorptiometry) scans according to established protocols and procedures for interpretation by supervising physician.
Essential Job Functions
•Performs all breast imaging and DEXA procedures.
•Assists the radiologist in invasive breast procedures, ensuring aseptic technique and consent is obtained by performing physician.
•Correlates patient's clinical history with procedure, ensuring information is documented and available for use by a licensed provider. Conveys patient's clinical history to licensed provider prior to examination.
•Selects and operates breast imaging equipment and associated devices to achieve desired results.
•Selects appropriate radiographic technique exposure factors to produce quality diagnostic images.
•Applies principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patient, self, and others.
•Applies the principles of patient safety during all aspects of the mammographic procedures.
•Provides patient education and discharge instructions.
•Participates in the department's quality assessments and improvement plans.
