Position Summary:
Reports to the designated sergeant. Responsible for the custody and discipline of inmates in the facility in compliance with American Correctional Association (ACA) standards, Management & Training Corporation (MTC), Florida Department of Corrections (FDOC) and Florida Department of Management Services (DMS) directives.
Essential Functions:
* Search for contraband and provide facility security.
* Count, provide meals, and supervise inmates in housing, work and other areas.

* Perform specific security functions including 'pat' and 'strip' searches', by squatting and bending to perform such functions.

* Prepare and maintain records, forms, and reports.
* Read, review and properly apply information found in inmate records which is related to the health and safety of the inmate, and for the security of facility and the facility staff.
* Perform specific duties if assigned to the following areas: commissary, property, transportation, education, food service, recreation, escort/roving, mailroom, laundry, visiting room, booking, mobile patrol, main control, law library, housing, special management area, and intake.
* If assigned to the food services area, assist in instructing inmates assigned to food services in the safe, hygienic method of preparing and serving appetizing, correctly proportioned meals in accordance with pre-planned menus.
* Respond to emergencies to search for inmates, administer first aid at the emergency site, carry an injured or unconscious offender, and perform use of force procedures, including the use of chemical agents and firearms in accordance with company policy and agency guidelines. Must be able to hear calls for and call out for help.
* Comply with policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
* It is expected that the incumbent will work overtime when directed to do so.

The Patrol Officer provides protection for people and properties on Vanguard University's campus. The Patrol Officer, in motor vehicle and/or on foot, will patrol roadways, walkways, parking lots, administration buildings, academic halls, and resident buildings located on Vanguard University property. The Patrol Officer ensures that activity logs are maintained and updated accurately in a timely fashion. The Patrol Officer conducts the initial investigations into reported crimes and incidents occurring on Vanguard property and submits appropriate reports pertaining to the investigation. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

FOR POSITIONS ASSIGNED TO PROVIDE MANAGEMENT OF A HOME DETENTION PROGRAM:
Provide 24-hour on-call support to families and clients in the event of emergencies and alert warnings involving monitoring equipment.
Ensures compliance with court orders and terms of home detention.
Completes home inspections including an interview with family at home and transports the detainee to home and set-up monitoring equipment.
Perform all home detention installations and disconnects including all necessary set-up and termination with the monitoring company.
Ensure that the home detention program has the proper equipment in the office at all times and that it is in working order.
Establishes, updates and maintains case files.
Replace transmitter or unit placed in the house when it is not working properly.
Review billing from monitoring company for each client.

Perform daily checks on a client's whereabouts, e.g., school, probation appointments, employment or programs.
Serves as the liaison to the Family Court on the status of juveniles in detention, receiving and communicating Court requirements to the contract facility and reporting to the Court as needed on progress or difficulties of the juveniles placed by the court in the contract facility.
Acts as a liaison between the detention center and state and local agencies e.g., Superior Court, Probation, Juvenile Justice Commission, Family Case Management, substance abuse treatment programs, school or work.
Make visits to the contract family to establish and maintain a working relationship with the administrative, educational and medical components of the facility. Will report on these matters to the Warden and take the lead in working through any issues that may need adjustment or better understanding.
Notify the Department of Corrections Transport Unit of need to move juveniles to detention and schedule the transport.

Conduct random urinalysis tests on detainees.
May assist the Coordinator of Juvenile Detention Services in the management of the juvenile detention population held in another county under contract.

Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or vocational school or possession of an approved high school equivalency certificate.
