Kean faculty are recognized for teaching distinction, scholarship and service. We are excited to grow our faculty and invite applications for a new tenure-track faculty member to begin with us in fall 2026. The position below is a twelve-month, full-time, tenure-track Clinical Faculty assignment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. Teaching assignments may be assigned at any of Kean's New Jersey locations - Union, Ocean, Princeton, Skylands or for Kean Online and may include day, evening and weekend courses. Evening hours are required based on department needs for teaching evening courses and for most graduate course assignments.
All tenure-track faculty are expected to demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence and an on-going program of research and publication or creative and performance activity. Participation in curriculum development, student advisement and service at the departmental, college, university and community level is required. Proficiency in a Learning Management System is also required, consistent with University guidelines.
College of Health Professions and Human Services
Department of Physician Assistant Studies (12 Month Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor) - the M.S. in Physician Assistant Studies Program graduates PAs who provide evidence-based, equitable health care to diverse populations and who value service to others as well as life-long learning. Faculty responsibilities performed during the twelve-month period include, but are not limited to: teaching clinical foundational courses within the PASP curriculum; evaluating and monitoring student progress; participating in admissions processes, including interviews and selecting applicants; participating in scholarship; participating in program assessment and evaluation; advising students; maintaining office hours; and working collaboratively with core faculty, administrators, the Dean of the College of Health Professions and Human Services, Enrollment Services and other departments within the University. Teaching in other areas will also be expected dependent upon program needs, training and clinical experience. Faculty may apply for release time for research (UFRI, RTR), students partnering with faculty (SpF) as well as other research opportunities available through external grants and special programs.
Qualifications: Graduate of an ARC-PA accredited program; Master's or Doctoral degree; and a minimum of three years of clinical experience is required. Candidates must be licensed or license-eligible in the State of New Jersey and have current NCCPA certification. Teaching experience evidenced by lecturing or as clinical teaching is preferred.

The Physician Assistant (PA) II surgical specialist is a licensed health professional who practices medicine with the supervision of a physician as a surgical assist. In addition to being a surgical assist, the PA may also be involved in coordination of care, participates in education, and is closely engaged in clinical practice and patient care management. The PA will function as a leader within our professional team by communicating, planning, and implementing care directly and with other healthcare professionals, including but not limited to surgeons, surgical techs, pharmacists, office support staff, and other advanced practice providers. Duties include but not limited to: assisting in surgery, obtaining patient health histories and complete physical examinations, documenting findings noting pertinent normal and abnormal findings, ordering and interpreting appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests, counseling patients on preventative care, and ordering medications. The PA may also be required to perform approved therapeutic or diagnostic procedures based upon patient's clinical status and document patient preparation and response to procedure(s). The Physician Assistant Practice Agreement will govern PA practice. The PA role includes abiding by rules and regulations of medical staff and PA certifying and regulating bodies.
Essential Duties:
Assists surgeon during surgical procedure. Perform first assistant surgical duties, including tissue retraction and suturing. May perform additional surgical duties/procedures based off specialty training and privileges approved by medical staff. (Accounts for at least 50% of Job Accountability)
Obtains detailed and accurate medical histories from patients; generally, this is confirming data that has been received preoperatively. Performs appropriate physical examinations, delineates problems, and records the information.
Develops and implements patient management plans, including the coordination of referrals to specialty and social services, the recording of progress notes and the provision of continuity of care in the preoperative and postoperative care period.
Orders appropriate laboratory, diagnostic and radiographic studies along with indicated procedures. Orders therapies to include PT, OT, ST and Respiratory. Orders medications and consultations with other services and medications.
Performs and / or interprets common laboratory, radiological, cardio graphic and other routine diagnostic procedures used to identify pathophysiological processes.
May perform additional procedures in the clinic or hospital setting based off privileges approved by medical staff
Helps preoperatively and postoperatively with care coordination of the patient.
Provides continuity of care in the management of complex illnesses and injuries under the supervision of a physician.
Instructs and counsels patients regarding compliance with prescribed therapeutic regimens, emotional problems of daily living, and health maintenance, especially in the postoperative period; this might also include members of the patient's family in certain circumstances.
Facilitates the referral of patients to other health and social service agencies when appropriate.
Ensures billing for services rendered is completed and accurate.

The annual base salary range for this position is $174,720.00 - $288,288.00. Position Key Accountabilities:

Duties and Responsibilities:
Clinical Education Development and Leadership(Approximately 50-60%):
* Serve as a key liaison between JABSOM and Hawai'i County - based healthcare institutions, including Hilo Benioff Medical Center, Kona Community Hospital, Queen's North Hawai'i Community Hospital, Hawai'i Health Systems Corporation, community clinics, and private practices.
* Assist the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in developing and implementing relevant policies, affiliation agreements, or other system-level initiatives to achieve more medical education on the island.
* Collaborate with Hawai'i healthcare leadership and physicians to identify, develop, and sustain high-quality clinical rotation sites and experiences for third- and fourth-year medical students and JABSOM residents.
