Responsibilities:
What will you do?
Under the direction of a Physician or Lead Physician, the Nurse Practitioner or Physican Assistant collaborates with physicians to provide comprehensive assessment, treatment and evaluation of patients in an outpatient clinic setting; healthcare services provided include care during acute and chronic phases of illness, education and counseling of individuals and referral to other healthcare providers and community resources when appropriate. Responsible for coordination of care for clinic patients.
Some of the Duties and Responsibilities include but not limited to:
Performs history and physical examinations on new and return patients; establishes presumptive diagnosis; establishes the general workup of the patient by ordering appropriate laboratory studies and testing.
Works in collaboration with physician in formulating treatment plans for health problems and follow-up.
Conducts comprehensive or episodic health assessments and develops patient care plans within clinical nursing practice and medical care protocols. Reviews, assesses patient medications.
Evaluates outcomes of care delivered to patients and initiates changes in the nursing approach accordingly.
Triages clinic patient calls. Notify physician of need and follow up with patient according to provider instructions as necessary.
Qualifications:
Nurse Practitioner or PhysicianAssistant
NP - Current Ohio Registered Nursing License.
Master?s degree in nursing and successful completion of an acceptable Nurse Practitioner education program, or PhysicianAssistant Program
Certification to include Prescriptive Authority.
Knowledge of triage procedures along with clinic, physician office and/or urgent care experience.
Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.
Knowledge of appropriate procedures and standards for the administration of medications and patient care aids.
Ability to educate and clearly communicate with patients and/or families as to the nature of disease and to provide instruction on proper care and treatment.

The UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center is seeking a Nurse Practitioner, PhysicianAssistant or Clinical Nurse Specialist with Prescriptive authority to join our Hematology Oncology team. The candidate will be part of a dynamic multidisciplinary healthcare team, and will work directly with Oncologists to provide care to patients undergoing treatment at the UNM Cancer Center outpatient clinic.
The University of New Mexico Comprehensive Cancer Center is the Official Cancer Center of New Mexico and the only National Cancer Institute-designated Cancer Center in a 500-mile radius. Its 136 board-certified oncology specialty physicians include cancer surgeons in every specialty (abdominal, thoracic, bone and soft tissue, neurosurgery, genitourinary, gynecology, and head and neck cancers), adult and pediatric hematologists/medical oncologists, gynecologic oncologists, and radiation oncologists. They, along with more than 600 other cancer healthcare professionals (nurses, pharmacists, nutritionists, navigators, psychologists and social workers), provide treatment to 65% of New Mexico?s cancer patients from all across the state. And they partner with community health systems statewide to provide cancer care closer to home. In 2024 they treated more than 15,000 patients in almost 105,000 ambulatory clinic visits in addition to in-patient hospitalizations at UNM Hospital. A total of 2,075 patients participated in cancer clinical trials to study new cancer treatments that include tests of novel cancer prevention strategies and cancer genome sequencing. The more than 123 cancer research scientists affiliated with the UNM Cancer Center were awarded $38.3 million in federal and private grants and contracts for cancer research projects. Since 2015, the physicians, scientists and staff have provided education and training experiences to more than 750 high school, undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral fellowship students in cancer research and cancer health care delivery.

The general surgery division also encompasses one of the largest residency programs in the country, as well as fellowships in minimally invasive surgery and colorectal surgery.
The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is a faculty member credentialed and privileged as a PhysicianAssistant (PA) or an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN). The APP is a member of the OHSU Professional Staff practicing in accordance with the respective bylaws. The APP shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university?s missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service. The APP is expected to comply with scope of practice, other laws, regulations, OHSU policy, and other applicable professional standards of practice.
Function/Duties of Position:
Clinical Responsibilities
Inpatient Responsibilities:
Providing inpatient care and follow-up of assigned surgical patients from the operating room (OR) to admission, and through discharge. Includes, but is not limited to: rounding on a daily basis with the faculty, developing and implementing, in conjunction with faculty physicians, clinical plans of care and/or protocols for inpatients on the General Surgery-Hernia/Abdominal Wall service with common conditions/diagnoses/procedures; educating the house staff and nursing unit staff on these protocols, with the goal of enhancing quality of care, enhancing quality of patient services, and decreasing length of inpatient stay; participating with hospital/unit staff in evaluating results of these protocols and continually improving effectiveness of same; working actively with hospital and unit staff to rapidly develop and implement discharge plans for inpatients on the General Surgery-Hernia/Abdominal Wall service and to address length of stay issues; promoting and maintaining health of inpatients on the General Surgery
-Hernia/Abdominal Wall service through the use of ancillary services, educational materials, and counseling of patients and families; providing resident and intern training/education in utilization of plans of care to improve patient services and outcomes of treatment; providing and/or participating in clinical in-service training and staff educational programs for the inpatient service.
Procedural duties include, but are not limited to: wound care (dressing changes, debridement, washout), stoma-related services, IV & other line placement, catheter or enteral tube placement and/or exchange, drain management, other.
Appropriate billing for various inpatient duties, as outlined above. Following all patient care standards, as outlined above.
Operating Room Responsibilities -Assistant Duties
For APP designated with OR responsibilities: Provide operating room and procedural assistance to General Surgery-Hernia/Abdominal Wall surgeons as determined by the Division Head or their designee(s). Includes assistance in performing a variety of general surgery procedures, with a focus on hernia repair and abdominal wall reconstructive procedures, among other surgical procedures, various suturing, wound closure, dressing application, postoperative monitoring, postoperative orders and discharge.
Appropriate billing for various operating room duties, as outlined above.
Outpatient
Providing patient care in the outpatient setting for preoperative and postoperative care, wound care, unscheduled visits, and chronic follow-up as determined by the faculty. This includes but is not limited to: developing patient care plans with the faculty and house staff to ensure continuity of care and enhance quality of outpatient care. Training and supervision of General Surgery-Hernia/Abdominal Wall clinic team staff, house staff and medical students.
Promoting and maintaining health using ancillary services, educational materials, and counseling of patients and families as outpatients; providing same day response to medical advice/prescription phone requests and coordinating patient services with outpatient patient care staff and other departmental advanced care providers. Promoting a safe environment and adhering to policies and confidentiality to support the mission and goals of OHSU.
Recognizing clinical emergencies or urgent situations and acting autonomously, efficiently, and effectively to provide situational resuscitation and/or treatment. Assessing patients for outpatient clinic visits, determining medical necessity of visit and ensuring a course of action based on department and OHSU policies and/or in collaboration with the faculty. Utilizing resources and educational materials for patients and families; consulting with the faculty to provide up-to-date condition-specific health care information for outpatients. This includes prompt and professional communication, face-to-face customer contact skills, crisis management, use of available information technology, standard complaint processing, flexibility in coverage of internal service needs, and continuous application of process improvement methods and skills.

Our Hospitalist team who specializes in caring for patients during their stay in the hospital. We coordinate medical care while patients are admitted and is available to spend time with the patient and their family to discuss the patient?s care. They monitor patient?s daily care to ensure that coordinated efforts during their stay get and get them back to an optimal level of health. As patients improve and daily medical care is no longer required, studies show that patients can often make a better recovery at home. When it is determined that the patient is ready to be discharged, the patient?s primary care physician will be updated on the progress and discharge plan.
I. JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides high-quality, coordinated, comprehensive, team-based, and patient-centered care for patients of The Queen?s Health System?s (QHS) hospitals and clinics, and other hospitals and clinics, as applicable, in the area of Orthopedic Surgery ? Spine
Responsible for diagnosing and prescribing a course of treatment, surgery, and therapy for patients with disorders, malformations, diseases and/or injuries to the musculoskeletal system, with a focus and/or interest in orthopedic spine conditions.

DESCRIPTION
The PhysicianAssistant (PA) will provide patient care coverage 7 days a week, including various holidays, in the Emergency Dept. The PhysicianAssistant's role is to manage the care of ED observation patients and Senior Emergency Care Unit patients.
The PhysicianAssistant (PA) will follow standardized advanced practice procedure guidelines to provide follow through with the care plan. Assess and provide medical care as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge. The PhysicianAssistant is expected to practice consistent with Professional Standards of Practice. Collaborate judgment with off-site physician is expected to be exercised within the context of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care. Under general supervision, the PA performs operational level duties as described in the UCSD Performance Policy.
The major emphasis of this position is direct patient care delivery. Assignments at this level primarily encompass management of patients who present chronic and/or episodic health problems. Assignments at this level may include responsibility for occasional community teaching programs, participation in program planning and development of patient education information. May perform other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must be a graduate from a physicianassistant program approved by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the PhysicianAssistant (ARC-PA).

Responsibilities
14 shifts a month (12-hour shifts), includes nights, holidays, and weekends. Patient population consists of kidney, pancreas, and liver transplant recipients; kidney donors; hepatobiliary patients; general surgery procedures on pre- and post-transplant patients; inpatient liver transplant evaluations. Performs physical examinations and takes complex medical histories on high acuity patients. Orders and reviews laboratory studies, as well as diagnostic procedures. Reviews patients' progress and managing patient care accordingly. Maintains all required documentation for patient care. Develops treatment plans in conjunction with attending physicians to provide optimal patient medical and surgical management. Facilitates inpatient multidisciplinary rounds daily on post operative patients. Participates in continuing medical education to include specialty and sub-specialty meetings, boards, and conferences. Orders consultations and interacts with members of other specialty medical teams. Participates in and presents Morbidity and Mortality presentations. Participates in kidney and liver transplant selection committees. Participates in monthly APC education meetings. Participate in other meetings and trainings as outlined by leadership team. Procedures: Line/drain removal, wound care, suturing. Assists in the operating room as needed for kidney, pancreas, liver transplants. Other surgeries include laparoscopic/robotic hernia repairs, liver resections, PD catheter insertions/removals, donor nephrectomies, native nephrectomies, etc. Assists in the collection of data for research as necessary.
The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual.
Minimum Qualifications
Required
Licensure to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Utah.
Preferred
Certification in ACLS/BLS/NRP/ATLS may be required by your department or by privileging criteria.
Utah State prescriptive privileges.
Licensure is obtained by completing a Master's degree in Nursing or equivalency (the only equivalency to the Master's degree is current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner) and a National Certification which requires the successful completion of a nationally accredited examination.
UHPPM 1-56 requires that newly hired non-physician providers apply for credentialing and privileging at the time of hire.
This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements. Position Key Accountabilities:

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Principal Faculty member, as a full-time faculty instructor in the PhysicianAssistant Program, is primarily responsible for course instruction and/or course coordination in the didactic and/or clinical phase of the program. It is expected that a Principal Faculty will be effective in the areas of course design, course delivery, and evaluation. The Principal Faculty is instrumental in assisting the program to ensure that students consistently meet the program?s student learning outcomes to achieve competencies required for PA practice. The Principal Faculty is guided by the Directors of Didactic/Clinical Education and the Program Director in assisting the program with curriculum assessment and meeting the ARC-PA Accreditation Standards. The Principal Faculty (full-time) is a member of the faculty (rank commensurate with experience) with the PhysicianAssistant Program.
The Principal Faculty member must assure that the South University philosophy is considered in carrying out the duties and responsibilities of this position, which includes quality services to clients; development, growth, involvement, and recognition of employees; sound economic principles; and maintenance of an environment which is conducive to innovation, positive thinking, and expansion. This position offers a $10,000 signing bonus.
KEY JOB ELEMENTS:
1. Provides teaching and instruction in the PA program including:
Coordination and instruction of courses as dictated by the needs of the program.
Lecturing in areas of clinical and/or professional expertise.
Providing academic advising as a small group facilitator and student advisor.
2. Assists the Director of Didactic Education in the administrative coordination of the didactic phase of the program.
3. Assists the Director of Clinical Education in the administrative coordination of the clinical phase of the program.
4. Assists with curriculum development, which includes the design and implementation of the curriculum.
5. Assists with ongoing curriculum evaluation and improvement.
6. Performs student evaluations of objective structured clinical examinations (OSCEs), lab practicals, as well as clinical reasoning, problem-solving, and technical skills sessions during the didactic and clinical phases of the program.
7. Evaluates student performance of submitted assignments, including written clinical documentation, evidence-based medicine research, and health literacy projects.
8. Creates examinations for courses and maps exam questions to ARC-PA Accreditation Standards and the NCCPA Content Blueprint.
9. Provides input to assist with accreditation activities, as well as ongoing program evaluation and mission statement review.
10. Participates in the program's admissions process to include open houses, student evaluation (through application review and candidate interviews), and student selection meetings.
11. Engages in service, community and campus relations, PAC meetings, and scholarly activities appropriate to the role of a Principal Faculty (full-time) member.
12. Participates in faculty development opportunities each year as required in the areas of teaching and academic administration.
13. Assists with clinical site development and clinical site monitoring.
14. Provides remedial instruction as needed.
15. Assists with other responsibilities as determined by the Directors of Didactic/Clinical Education, Program Director, and/or the Campus Leadership.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Graduation from an accredited PA program.
Terminal degree as a PhysicianAssistant.
Current or emeritus NCCPA certification.
PAs with active certification must be eligible for state licensure or hold an active, valid, and unencumbered state license in the state where they are assigned.
1-2 years teaching experience in a graduate health-related profession highly preferred.
2 years of clinical experience required.
Experience in PA/medical classroom teaching preferred.
