Essential Duties: * Search for contraband and provide security. * Count, feed and supervise inmates in housing, work and other areas. * Provide custody and security of inmates including observation of inmates * Perform security of various assigned areas. * Read, review and properly apply information found in inmate records which is related to the inmates' health and safety and to the security of the facility. Provide appropriate information to other personnel. * Prepare and maintain records, forms and reports. * Perform specific duties if assigned to the following areas: commissary, property, transportation, recreation, mail room, laundry, visitation, booking, mobile patrol, main control, housing, administration, segregation and intake. * If assigned to the food services area, assist in instructing inmates assigned to food services in the safe, hygienic method of preparing and serving appetizing and well-proportioned meals. Job Duties The Campus Safety Officer may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential duties: * Act as first responder to all campus emergencies, medical and criminal, that could potentially be hazardous and/or life threatening. * Enforce campus policies, regulations and procedures. * Assist Residence and Student Life with enforcement of regulations and Code of Conduct violations. * Make regular inspections of the campus facilities during shift, noting unusual occurrences. * Observe and report trespassers, fire, water leaks, or other hazardous conditions to supervisors/command staff/management which could lead to loss or damage to property and equipment. * Unlock buildings as scheduled for events and ensure all windows and doors are locked as scheduled. * Patrol assigned area. * Handle all dispatch duties, including radio communications and monitoring traffic entering/exiting campus, emergency phone lines and surveillance cameras. * Ensure only authorized persons are admitted to the campus while on duty. * Enforce campus traffic regulations including parking and speeding. * Direct and control traffic and provide crowd control and security during special events and as required. * Observe weather conditions on campus and report dangerous or unusual weather-related activity to supervisors/command staff/management. * Complete investigations of College violations, including viewing camera footage, talking with witnesses, and writing incident/accident reports. * Act as a liaison for the College with local law enforcement. * Provide awareness education/information on an informal basis to students and employees during other duties. * Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications * High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required * Must have a valid state driver's license * Experience with computers, including Microsoft Office or similar programs, and the ability to learn new technologies quickly to perform essential job functions * Strong sense of customer service and demonstrated ability to be proactive in helping others. * Strong written and oral communications and relational skills including the ability to communicate information, both verbal and written, in a clear and concise manner and to compose written reports, forms, and memos. * Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and members of the public. Physical Requirements * Must be able to work 8-hour shifts including weekends, and holidays. May work evenings or overnight, depending on assigned shift. * Significant climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting. * Must be able to lift, push, or pull up to 35 lbs on a regular basis and up to 175 pounds or more in an emergency situation. * Must regularly stand or walk for extended periods of time, climb stairs, or sit for extended periods as needed. * Mentally analyze a situation, solve problems, and make decisions under pressure. * Must be able to read and understand written instruction. * This position is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and must be able to work in all types of weather. * Must possess and maintain a current, valid driver's license.     Job Title Campus Safety Officer Department Campus Safety Supervisor Title Campus Safety Operations Manager Division Student Affairs FLSA Classification Non-Exempt Job Grade TBD Type Level Staff To protect life and property while maintaining a safe and secure environment for Beacon College students, faculty, staff and visitors. DUTIES AND TASKS: The Campus Safety Officer shall be responsible for routinely performing the following functions and activities: * Patrol campus, as an unarmed private security officer, either on foot or by motor vehicle, to prevent crime and preserving peace to ensure protection of all campus faculty, staff, students, and visitors, as well as all campus buildings, structures, and property; * Respond to accidents, crimes and complaint reports on campus property; * Maintain necessary campus security records and reports, completing documentation in a timely manner; * Escort students from night classes back to apartments; * Administer first aid as necessary and call for emergency medical services as appropriate; * Assist Student Affairs and all Beacon College personnel as requested; * Partner with Leesburg Fire Department and Leesburg Police Department; and * Maintain a strong customer service orientation with the campus community. In addition to routine duties the Campus Safety Officer will be responsible for: * Completing assigned training and attending all professional development activities; * Attending and participating all other meetings as assigned; * Participating in Beacon College functions such as orientation, graduation, open houses, fundraising, and community relations as needed; * Serving on Beacon College committees as needed; and * All other duties as assigned. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge: * High school diploma or equivalent required. * Associate's degree preferred. * Valid Florida driver's license and acceptable motor vehicle report (MVR) are required to drive Beacon College vehicles. * Possess and maintain State of Florida "Class D" security license. * Possess and maintain CPR/AED and First Aid certification. * Demonstrated knowledge of modern safety and security practices and procedures. Skills: * Strong written and oral communication skills. * Computer skills sufficient to prepare security incident reports. Abilities: * Strong service orientation with a demonstrated ability to effectively meet the needs of and work collaboratively with a diverse population of students, staff, faculty and public. * Ability to work in demanding and stressful situations while practicing good judgement.
