Department Profile

The Environmental Services (EVS) department is an integral part of TGH and maintains cleanliness for 1.7 million square feet of both direct and indirect patient care. As a member of the Environmental Services Team for the largest Level 1 Trauma Center in the area, team members are a part of the frontline care team helping to heal some of the sickest patients. With over 1,000 licensed beds, TGH EVS Aides complete more than 200,000 room cleans each year. Extensive training is provided to ensure team members can effectively and confidently follow standard procedures in the safe clean-up and disposal of infectious waste while safely using cleaning chemicals in accordance with CDC, the Joint Commission and OSHA standards.

Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of Director and Assistant Director of Environmental Services, the Manager inspects the assigned areas ensuring compliance with the established cleaning standards. Determines cleaning effectiveness by staff and assesses the need for special cleaning. Reports items in need of repair or unsatisfactory condition. Demonstrates ability to interview, hire, schedule, assign work to and evaluate the work performance of employees supervised. Prepares productivity reports, monitors/maintains all work scheduling of Environmental Service Aides and Supervisors. Completes quality control inspections. Completes employee performance evaluations in a timely manner. Linen responsibilities include collecting and interacting with linen process. Responsible for performing job duties in accordance with the mission, vision and values of Tampa General Hospital.

Qualifications High School diploma or G.E.D.
Minimum 2 years of experience in an institutional/hospitality experience.
4 years of managerial or supervisory experience strongly preferred

Plans, organizes, manages, coordinates and controls the activities of the Environmental Services Department. This position performs some cleaning duties in the hospital facilities in order to keep it in a clean and orderly condition.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Properly hires, orients, trains, evaluates and disciplines housekeeping personnel within established policy.
Schedules personnel to ensure proper coverage of the hospital.
Develops orientation and ongoing training programs for the hospital and department personnel.
Serves on the hospital Safety Committee and Hazardous Materials and Waste Subcommittee.
Participates in information management, performance improvement and infection control programs.
Ensures compliance with JCAHO, federal, state and local regulations and standards.
Prepares and submits reports as requested by Administration.
Report any malfunctions and maintenance problems. Perform minor repairs such as changing light bulbs as needed.
Work with vendors to ensure correct supplies and supply levels as well as services.
Stays current in area of Environmental Services through continuing education conferences, professional journals and societies.
Periodically inventories equipment and supplies.
Develops and applies the standards of quality and productivity.
Investigates new and improved cleaning equipment, methods and supplies and communicates information to employees.
Ensures linen supply is clean and that there is an adequate supply available at all times.
Reviews linen usage statistics and maintains loss and cost controls.
Clean patient rooms, restrooms, lounges, offices, corridors, walls and windows daily or as scheduled.
Operate various types of equipment and machinery to include vacuums, hand trucks, and mini-extractors.
Inspects and evaluates physical condition of the hospital.
Submits recommendations to management for painting, repairs, and furnishings, relocation of equipment and reallocation of space.
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree (BA) from four (4) year college or university preferred; or at least two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
Additional languages preferred.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
