Manager of operations excellence job description

The Operational Excellence (OpEx) Manager is a key leader responsible for ensuring the execution of strategic initiatives and capability building as part of the Operational Excellence program for the North Chicago Manufacturing Plant. The OpEx manager is part of the Senior Management team and works collaboratively with the various teams to implement operational improvements that focus on improving quality, productivity, labor, and cost saving efficiencies. This role will serve as a change agent for developing and encouraging a culture that is driven by safety, discipline, transparency, and accountability.

* Lead and execute complex process improvement projects to drive improvements in cost, quality, service and safety

* Work directly with site leadership to develop multi-year plans and partner with them to track progress.

* Lead the strategy development for the site and manage the implementation program of the strategic initiatives
* Lead workshops and projects across the site to engage the employees at all levels
* Lead and execute major process improvement and cost savings projects, to deliver financial results within specified time frames.
* Provide training in the use of CI tools
* BS in Engineering or Science (required)
* Training in Lean and Six Sigma improvement methodologies (required)
* 5 years experience in biopharmaceutical production or related areas (required) and 8+ years of significant engineering and/or operational experience (preferred)
* Strong computer skills (required)

Proven track record of successful implementation of large and small-scale improvement programs

Ability to plan and manage within budget and time constraints.

High level of preparedness to analyze, discuss and support analysis with management.

Ability to influence with indirect or no authority

Ability to work with employees at all levels of the organization

Duties and Responsibilities
Run Performance Board meetings for management biweekly & Monthly in alignment with global team and regional team.Responsible for Regional Process specialist in each area of supply chain and ensure RCA are conducted every week.Responsible to Identify and highlight issues and corresponding actions to mitigate the problems in the process.Strong process & performance mindset and do not hesitate to challenge the regional processes against the SOPs.Preferred Interpersonal SkillsExcellent English verbal and written communication skill Team-working - being able to work with others in groups and teams Problem solving and decision-making - working with others to identify, define and solve problems, which includes making decisions about the best course of action Influencing people with no direct line management

The Opportunity

As we continue to grow as QuidelOrtho, we are seeking a Senior Manager, Operational Excellence based in Raritan, NJ. This position directly supports the VP of Operations to drive significant improvements across operations by building a culture and processes of operational excellence, including continuous improvement. This position focuses on operations strategy development and deployment, operations project management, and continuous improvement. The position partners with key stakeholders to establish an operational excellence strategy and deployment of the strategy. It involves developing capability at various levels of the organization relative to operational excellence and continuous improvement.

The Responsibilities
Lead the operations strategy development for the Rochester and Raritan sites and ensure there is an active pipeline of projects aligned to business priorities, KPIs, and results. Ensure that there is a solid operating mechanism/review for project management and execution.Management of Monthly and weekly operations review.Establish and mature a Lean Management System (tiered daily management systems, Gemba, and leader standard work) and other coaching tools to transform the culture.Coach the development of leaders and the general population relative to continuous improvement.Lead/Manage specific operational projects, especially regarding capacity and operational improvement.Facilitate kaizen charter development and events. Follow up on Kaizen actions and ensure successful completion of action items for making improvements.Share best practices and drive continuous improvement and Standard Work across processes.Partner with business leaders to develop, standardize, and drive operating mechanisms that drive key performance indicator visibility, accountability, and action planning to continually improve business performance.Develop a culture that emphasizes quality and safety improvements as part of continuous improvement.Manager/Supervise Junior Staff to ensure operational excellence and/or project management needs are met at the plants/sites.Support the Senior Leadership Team, with the Identification, Selection, and Execution of Continuous Improvement opportunities.Work directly with all levels of the organization to develop and implement process improvements.Elaborate implementation plans for identified improvements.

The Interactions:
This role will have extensive contacts internally at all levels. Interacts regularly with colleagues across the organization, particularly in Rochester Operations, as well as with management to inform, persuade, influence, and support. Interacts with management teams to develop, execute, monitor, and continually improve operational excellence and continuous improvement programs.

The work environment characteristics are representative of an office, laboratory, and manufacturing environment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The position requires the ability to lift to 30 lbs. on occasion. Up to 50% of the time in meetings, working with the team in the lab or manufacturing floor; 30% of the time at the desk on the computer, walking, standing, or sitting for extended periods, and doing analytical work are routine to accomplish tasks in this role. 20% travel is also required. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the use of Personal Protective Equipment as posted.

The Individual
