Zurich is seeking an experienced Executive Large Property Underwriter or AVP, Director Large Property Underwriter, to join our National Large Property team in Zurich's Los Angeles office. We are also open to basing the position at our offices in San Francisco or Denver. While this position will be based out of a Zurich office, you will have the flexibility to work on a hybrid basis. You will partner with your manager to set a flexible work schedule that supports you, our customers, and our brokers and agents. This role will require you to be visible in the marketplace to meet with our agents and brokers and be in the office/market three days per week.
This role will be filled at either the Executive Large Property Underwriter or AVP, Director Large Property Underwriter. The hiring manager will determine the appropriate level based upon the selected applicant's experience and skill set relative to the qualifications listed for this position.
As an Executive Large Property Underwriter or AVP, Director Large Property Underwriter you will handle complex new and renewal domestic Large Property accounts and serve as a Subject Matter Expert on the team. As a member of Zurich's Underwriting Team, you will enjoy the opportunity to fully apply and hone your underwriting and marketing skills while building relationships with Select Brokers focused in the Western US region.
In this role, you will:
Administer and monitor underwriting rules and guidelines, insurance laws and regulations, and rating annual rules.
Develop, maintain & collaborate with Line of Business representatives on referrals and other business related needs, as appropriate.
May provide guidance to lower level associates.
Develop and maintain relationships with distributors (agents & brokers) in support of business retention and acquisition and works with customers and distributors (agents & brokers) to determine their insurance related needs and provide solutions.
Supports the sales culture by being a Help Point for agents, brokers and customers.
Proactively seek renewal and new account opportunities.
Complete detailed opportunity assessment with key distributors to identify growth opportunities
Qualify accounts to meet with the organization's appetite, balanced with sound business opportunity.
Make broker/customer and on-sight calls with a planned and well-prepared purpose
Basic Qualifications, Executive Large Property Underwriter:
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area

High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area
OR
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area

The combined salary range for this position is $98,300.00 - $213,000.00. The proposed salary range for the Director Large Property Underwriter is $98,300.00 - $161,000.00, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 15%. The proposed salary range for the Executive Large Property Underwriter or AVP is $130,000.00 - $213,000.00, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 20%.

Duties and Responsibilities
Revenue Cycle Leadership & Regional Operations
Oversee all aspects of the revenue cycle across the SNF portfolio, including patient intake, billing, collections, and accounts receivable.
Provide hands-on executive leadership with direct accountability for facility-level revenue cycle performance.
Act as the primary escalation point for complex billing issues, unresolved AR, and payer disputes.
Cash Flow & Performance Management
Develop and implement strategies to improve revenue cycle efficiency, reduce days in accounts receivable, and optimize cash flow.
Review and analyze facility-level cash collections, aging reports, and payer performance trends.
Identify revenue shortfalls and opportunities; implement corrective action plans to improve revenue recognition and collections.
Provide regular reporting and actionable insights to senior leadership.
Claims, Denials & Payer Compliance
Ensure accurate, timely, and compliant claim submission to Medicare, Medi-Cal, and commercial payers.
Implement best practices for claims management, denial prevention, and appeals.
Lead resolution of payer underpayments, disputes, and recoupments.
Systems, Controls & Audit Readiness
Ensure accounts receivable and billing systems are fully functional and aligned with field operations by partnering with the Information Systems team and external vendors.
Serve as the primary liaison and subject-matter expert for billing audits, internal audits, and Additional Documentation Requests (ADRs).
Develop, enforce, and maintain revenue cycle policies, procedures, and internal controls.
Conduct regular audits and reviews to ensure compliance with regulatory and payer requirements.
Facility Engagement & Continuous Improvement
Work closely with facility administrators and business office managers to improve billing accuracy, timeliness, and accountability.
Conduct regular facility-level performance reviews, identifying root causes and driving corrective actions.
Standardize workflows and best practices across facilities while accommodating operational realities of a regional platform.
Team Leadership & Development
Lead, mentor, and develop revenue cycle teams, including billing, coding, and collections staff.
Evaluate team performance and implement strategies for continuous improvement and professional growth.
Support recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding of business office and revenue cycle personnel.

Oversee quality assurance and ensure compliance with rail industry standards such as APTA, FRA, and customer-specific requirements.

Leadership and Employee Development
Supervise, train, and develop production supervisors, leads, and employees performing railcar rebuild and refurbishment activities.
