About the role, Your Impact
Baxter & Woodman has a rewarding opportunity for an engineering internship in our Crystal Lake, Chicago, Naperville or Mokena, IL offices. This on-the job experience will support the firm s water resources group with the design and construction of a variety of facilities and offer the opportunity to work directly with firm clients. A variety of responsibilities and duties will provide a well-rounded background in engineering.
What your day-to-day will look like, what you will learn on the job
Assisting senior engineers with the evaluation, study and design of stormwater systems.
Field work, studies, and design of stormwater infrastructure.
Collaboration with other technical departments (Infrastructure, Transportation, CADD, etc )
Construction work including quantity computation, construction layout, survey and construction inspection.
Education Requirement
Ongoing pursuit of a 4-year degree in Civil Engineering.

Maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.0/4.0.
Available to start May 2026.
Ability to travel throughout Chicago area (own transportation).
Ability to work in a team environment on a variety of projects.

The Automation Intern is primarily responsible for the design of Water/Wastewater technology, electrical power distribution, and automation systems. These systems typically include process instrumentation, control panels, motor controls, power monitoring, PLCs, OITs/HMIs, SCADA/DCS Systems, industrial networking, IT infrastructure, radio/cellular telemetry, reporting, & data collection. Design documents include Single Line Diagrams, plan drawings, installation details, Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), specifications, detailed control panel schematics, and other related documents.
What your day-to-day will look like, what you will learn on the job:
* Assists staff with providing conceptual design, solutions, and/or product specifications per end-user requirements.
* Assists with in-house PLC/OIT/HMI programming and testing.
* Assists with control panel fabrication which includes control panel component mounting, wiring, and testing.
* Assists with onsite work for municipal clients including instrumentation configuration, hardware installation, and control system and process start-up/testing.
* Occasionally, lift items weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance.
Education Requirement:
* Pursuing the completion of a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program.

Required Qualifications
Enrollment in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Fluidics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Mechatronics, or a related field.

Familiarity with basic statistics.
