Position Purpose: Sports officials will officiate Youth Basketball games, events, and tournaments to maintain standards of play for applicable competitions facilitated through the Manhattan Parks and Recreation Department (MPRD).
Job Duties
Officiate MPRD youth basketball games.
Attend sport-specific trainings and meetings.
Make judgements and instruct players on the rules of the game.
Provide communication to and from coaches and participants.
Inspect sporting equipment and/or examine participants to ensure compliance with event and safety regulations.
Assist supervisors, as needed, by helping with tear-down at the end of the game (equipment, etc.)

Maintain a safe and positive playing environment.
Effectively communicate principles of good sportsmanship.

* Assists in ensuring a clean, organized, and safe facility/location, which includes light janitorial/cleaning tasks as directed by supervisors.
* Moves throughout facility/location to monitor usage and supervises/assists customers as needed.
* Acts as support staff for administrative staff and program supervisors.
* Carries out all procedures exactly as described by the Emergency Action Plan (EAP) in times of emergency or crisis. EAP training will be provided by MPRD.
* May supervise the fitness area and all members during operational hours.
* May be required to maintain proficiency in computer data entry skills, including use of CivicRec and/or other software solutions.
* May answer the phone in a cheerful, polite manner. Directs phone calls to the proper people.
* May work in an after-school program setting for middle schoolers that includes monitoring participants, enforcing rules, and participating in activities.
* Other duties as assigned.

* Must be 18 years of age or older.
* Valid driver's license (Fall, Winter, & Spring).

* Knowledge and experience of recreation and fitness, spots, game rules, and regulations.

* Work will be performed at assigned location(s), which could be indoor and/or outdoor.
* Staff will be required to work varied shifts daily including evenings, weekends and some holidays.

Summary/Objective
Performs firefighting work in the protection of life and property by combating, extinguishing, and preventing fires. The position performs specialized firefighting duties under emergency conditions frequently involving considerable physical danger. Performs emergency medical services, specialized rescue, and hazardous materials response. The position performs public relations and fire prevention/inspection activities, maintenance of the facilities, grounds, apparatus, and equipment as required.
Essential Functions
Performs direct tasks to mitigate emergencies, aides persons in distress, and provides public services; maintains training as required.
Responds to alarms; performs all necessary duties as a firefighter including, but not limited to, the use of hoses, pumps, equipment, emergency apparatus and tools necessary in fire suppression, life safety, rescue operations, property conservation operations, clean-up projects, and all other activities as required.
Follows standard policies, procedures, guidelines, and safety rules as outlined in federal, state, and local regulations as well as by the Department for such activities.
Performs emergency medical services consistent with State and Department guidelines, policy, and protocols.
Performs specialized rescue, hazardous materials, and aircraft firefighting.
Attends and participates in formal phased, intensive training and instruction sessions in firefighting, rescue, hazardous material, and emergency medical service methods and operations.
Participates in pre-fire planning of buildings and performs inspections of businesses to ensure compliance with fire and building codes.
Works up to 24-hour shift schedules.
Maintains a sense of readiness to perform high stress, physically demanding duties throughout work shift.
Maintains personal safety and makes critical decisions in a confused, chaotic, and potentially life-threatening environment.
Relies on senses of sight, hearing, smell, and touch to help determine the nature of an emergency.
Performs other duties as required.
Performs routing housekeeping and maintenance duties at the fire station or in connection with fire equipment.
Ensures that equipment and vehicles are properly maintained to provide for a quick and effective emergency response
Contributes to the appearance, cleanliness, and proper maintenance of fire facilities for safety and readiness by performing routine maintenance and cleaning of fire station areas.
Participates in pre-fire planning of buildings and performs inspections of businesses to ensure compliance with fire and building codes.
Conducts tours, participates in public education functions, and presents to individuals or groups on safety topics and duties of firefighting.
Ensures compliancy with all applicable regulations, policies, and procedures in all duties.
Requirements
Required Education and Experience
High school graduate or equivalent.
Must be enrolled in full-time (12 hours undergraduate or 6 hours graduate) at Kansas State University, Manhattan Area Technical College, or Manhattan Christian College and maintain a 2.0 GPA.
Possession of a valid driver's license.
Preferred Education and Experience
Community service experience.
Condition of Continued Employment
Successful completion of the Department's Firefighter Academy as well as successfully passing an annual medical exam and a physical performance assessment.
