Due to MSG's continued growth, a new opening is available for Drilling Assistant to assist with our projects in Canton, MI! This role requires current and ongoing authorization to work in the United States. The company is not able to provide visa sponsorship for this position. Key ResponsibilitiesWe are currently seeking a Drilling Assistant to join our team based out of our Canton, MI office. This is a field-based, hands-on role supporting our drilling operations, which are primarily focused on geotechnical and environmental subsurface investigations. As the right-hand person to the Lead Driller, you'll play a critical part in helping to safely and efficiently operate drill rigs and perform field investigations. This is an entry-level opportunity with on-the-job training provided - a great fit for someone looking to begin a career in the geotechnical, environmental, or construction fields. Skills, Knowledge and Expertise * Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an ABET-accredited program. * Advanced degree in a geotechnical-related field preferred but not required. * 10-15 years of experience in geotechnical engineering. * Have passed the principles of engineering (PE) exam, or have the ability to obtain within 1 year. If/once PE is obtained, be able to obtain multi-state licensure. * Experience with MDOT, ODOT, or other transportation/local agencies is preferred but not required. * Experience with construction materials testing/inspection and laboratory testing. * Experience with geotechnical design software. * Excellent communication, problem-solving, and technical writing skills. * Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment. * The role may involve working outdoors in various weather conditions and performing physically demanding tasks, such as lifting equipment, moving soil samples, and standing for extended periods. Willingness to travel to project sites and work in outdoor environments is required. Your Key Responsibilities - Assist Stantec's National Asset Transformation and Brownfields team with grant writing and implementation. - Perform remedial activities at affected facilities, properties, or sites addressing chemical impacts in air, surface water, soil, soil vapor, groundwater, and/or sediment. - Managing or overseeing personnel conducting due diligence, Phase I ESAs or other environmental projects. - Conduct intrusive site investigations, Phase II ESAs, facility investigations, and remedial investigations of vapor, surface water, soil, groundwater, and/or sediment to determine the presence or absence, nature, and extent of constituents of concern. - Collect, and interpret data, conduct analyses, and compare findings to relevant studies and local, state and federal regulations to confirm compliance. - Compiling, evaluating, analyzing, and presenting/reporting subsurface investigation data and preparing technical reports. - Contribute to design and optimization of environmental remediation systems and strategies. - Maintain stakeholder relationships with direct communication with clients and regulators and respond to comments and problems as quickly as possible. - Collaborate with other scientific and engineering professionals within the practice. - Coordinate each project with the client and government agencies as necessary. - Mentor and provide direct hands-on assistance when teaching new environmental analyses, oral and writing skills to environmental specialists and staff scientists. - Stay current with environmental procedures, statutes, rules, guidance and policies. - Preparation of health & safety plans, work plans, reports, and other technical documents. - Coordination and oversight of subcontractors, including health and safety management. - Project management responsibilities may include developing proposals; managing project budgets and schedules; coordinating with clients, stakeholders, regulatory agencies, and internal project staff; and performing and overseeing project technical work. - Mentoring and/or supervising team members (e.g. engineer or geologists in training). - Travel may be required for the purpose of overseeing field crews, participating in off-site meetings, or training. Due to MSG's continued growth, a new opening is available for a Geotechnical Project Engineer/Manager to assist with our projects in Canton, MI! Key Responsibilities Prepares detailed cost estimates and proposals for geotechnical engineering tasks and/or projects. Plans, coordinates, and executes geotechnical field investigations to include assessing subsurface conditions, soil properties, and geotechnical risks. Acts as phase/task or project manager for multi-discipline projects. Performing geotechnical analyses and calculations (ASD and LRFD) to determine foundation design parameters, slope stability, and earthwork specifications. Designing foundations, retaining structures, embankments, and other geotechnical structures. Preparing and/or reviewing technical reports, drawings, and specifications for construction projects Collaborating with other engineering disciplines, architects, and construction teams to ensure geotechnical considerations are integrated into project designs. Monitoring and inspecting construction activities to ensure compliance with geotechnical design requirements and specifications. Manages and coordinates staff engineers and technicians on project assignments. Some project-related travel may be required. Skills, Knowledge and Expertise Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an ABET-accredited program. Advanced degree in a geotechnical-related field preferred but not required. 10-15 years of experience in geotechnical engineering. Have passed the principles of engineering (PE) exam, or have the ability to obtain within 1 year. If/once PE is obtained, be able to obtain multi-state licensure. Experience with MDOT, ODOT, or other transportation/local agencies is preferred but not required. Experience with construction materials testing/inspection and laboratory testing. Experience with geotechnical design software. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and technical writing skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment. The role may involve working outdoors in various weather conditions and performing physically demanding tasks, such as lifting equipment, moving soil samples, and standing for extended periods. Willingness to travel to project sites and work in outdoor environments is required.
