What you will do

In this vital role you will In this role, you will perform operations in Manufacturing (AR30), specifically in downstream operations, at Amgen's innovative Rhode Island facility. You will perform and monitor critical processes associated with protein purification while following Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and batch records.
Additional Responsibilities:
Perform in-process sampling of drug substance applying analytical equipment.
Perform hands-on operations that include inspecting and installing single use components, chromatography operations, UF/DF operations, sample analysis, drug substance fill operations and breaking down vessels.
Perform technical writing to draft and revise documents such as Manufacturing Procedures, Deviations, Safety Reporting, and Equipment logs.
Conduct basic troubleshooting and assist in the review of documentation for assigned functions.
Opportunities to participate in cross-functional teams to expand technical background in the bio-technologies industry.
Identify, recommend and implement improvements related to CAPAs or Continuous Improvement initiatives.
Maintaining an inspection ready work space.
Organizing and maintaining material inventory in the manufacturing space.
Collaborating with multiple computer systems (Delta V/EBRs) simultaneously to complete operations or troubleshoot issues on the floor.
This role is expected to work a 12-hour shift on a rotating schedule. The shift pattern will be 7AM-7PM, with a two-week rotation covering 7 days per rotation. The rotating shift offers several benefits, with an average of 14 days on shift per month with every other weekend off. In addition any Sundays worked receive Premium pay. The schedule during the initial on-boarding phase for this role (2-6 weeks) will be administrative (Monday through Friday, approximately 8am to 5pm).

Disassemble and clean all elements of process line equipment as required or on change-over of material. Assist in all efforts to bring non-operation process line equipment back into operation.
Provide relief as necessary to maintain continuous operation of process line.
Performs in-process control testing.
Change/stage WIP containers when necessary.
Make, record, log, and chart appropriate product and process control records.
Detect unusual conditions, defective materials, operating difficulties, or process upsets, and report to supervisor.
Requires the use of fork lift trucks and other material handling equipment.
Observe prescribed or necessary safety precautions and work according to good manufacturing and housekeeping practices.
Train other operators as assigned.
Implement and maintain the 5S systems in the Plant. This includes sorting, straightening, and cleaning activities including but not limited to vacuuming, equipment cleaning and inspection and painting.

The shift pattern will be 7am -7 with a two-week rotation covering 7 days per week. The Technician is responsible for the conversion of micro-prism films. The Manufacturing Conversion Technician I, manages material flow on the equipment, monitors operation, makes operating adjustments (as required) and verifies product quality and equipment operating conditions to assure conformance to specifications. The Technician follows all required ISO documentation. The Technician is responsible for area housekeeping and following proper safety procedures plus recommending changes to enhance equipment performance and improve safety.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Safe operation of all ORAFOL manufacturing equipment.
May be required to operate and inspect Powered Industrial equipment.
Operate equipment and to perform all functions to produce quality compliant films.
Understand and wear all Personal Protection Equipment as required.
Perform all required quality checks pertaining to runs as required.
Remove and inspects tooling as required.
Monitor and records pressure and ranges as required.
Load film on and off machines.
Slit material to appropriate widths and lengths as required.
Set up and perform splices.
Complete all roll documentation as required.
Process work orders using Enterprise System.
Print and verify work in progress work labels.
Follow all standardized procedures while operating machines.
Comply with all OSHA regulations.
Proactively detects and reports defective materials or questionable conditions to supervisor.
Hazardous Waste (communication/handling).
Understand Safety Data Sheet documentation.
Retrieve chemicals from Chemical Mix Room as required.
Basic troubleshooting of process/product variations and/or equipment related issues.
Effective communication during shift change to both Supervisors and other operators.
Enter requests in Computer Maintenance Management System.
Support and perform routine maintenance on equipment.
Take preventive measures and performing such tasks as equipment cleaning.
Maintain documentation of all required machine reports.
Maintain an optimal level of product quality and adheres to ORAFOLs Quality Program.
Attend all job required training sessions.
Participate in communication meetings.
Maintain a safe and clean work area.
Understand ORCT Films ORAFOLs goals and works well as a team member to exceed expectations.
Perform other duties as assigned or as the situation dictates
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
During day to day production operations, Technicians generate hazardous wastes. The types of wastes generated during production may include ignitable solvents, solvent wipers and debris, used oil, non-hazardous resins, and non-hazardous solids.
Technicians manage satellite storage of these wastes.
Responsible for verifying that satellite containers are compatible with their contents and are sealed unless waste is physically being added or removed.
Ensure that all satellite containers used to accumulate waste are approved by the U.S Department of Transportation (DOT), and that containers are labeled with the words Hazardous Waste and other words that further describe the waste.
Because Technicians routinely handle hazardous waste and Orafol is a large quantity generator (LQG), Technicians are required to attend annual hazardous waste training required by 40 CFR 262.34 (a)(4).
Technicians verify that satellite accumulation areas are located at or near the point of generation (The facility may only accumulate up to 55 gallons of hazardous waste or 1 quart of acute hazardous waste at each satellite accumulation area).
When the quantity limit is reached or a container is full, Technicians are required to add the accumulation start date to the container label and, within three days, transfer the waste container to the hazardous waste storage area.
Prior to transferring containers to the hazardous waste storage area, Technicians are responsible for remove the attached pour off funnels, if present, and seal the container with U.N. approved closures (i.e. bungs).
Technicians use appropriate container handling procedures and equipment to minimize the potential for a release of hazardous waste during transfer.
Technicians are also responsible for placing containers in the appropriate storage location within the hazardous waste storage area and for verifying that waste containers have adequate secondary containment. This includes segregating potentially incompatible wastes. In the event of a release of hazardous waste, Technicians will isolate the immediate area, warn others in the affected area and notify the primary and/or alternate emergency coordinator. ORAFOL employees are only authorized to respond to incidental releases as defined by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) in 29 CFR 1910.120.

A qualified Stripline Operator has the knowledge of the set-up and operation of the Stripline machine, must have the ability to pick out the proper size and style stripshoe for the product being worked on, must be able to follow instructions from supervision.
1) Demonstrate a working knowledge of the Stripline takeup, payoff, huestes and granulator.
2) Pick out proper tooling set-up to strip curing jacket, finish jacket, or insulation as needed.
3) Monitor quality of finished product as it is being stripped. Monitor takeup reel traverse as needed. Package to proper lengths specified on package instructions. Report any defects to foreman or QC inspector.
4) Complete labor reports, traveler tags, length sheets, nuclear respool sheets as required.
5) Report any maintenance or safety issues immediately to a supervisor. Maintain area in a clean and orderly condition.
6) Follow prescribed plant safety rules and regulations.
