An SMT Process Engineer Tech/Engineer provides technical expertise and troubleshooting assistance to internal and external customers regarding Surface Mount Technology (SMT) and Plated Through Hole (PTH) equipment, processes, and related issues, ensuring optimal machine performance and production quality. Key Responsibilities Process Optimization: Collaborate with engineering teams/Customer to optimize SMT processes, including solder paste application, component placement, reflow profiles, and quality control procedures. Analyze production data to identify trends, potential issues, and areas for improvement. Develop and implement process improvements to enhance production efficiency and yield. Technical Support: Respond to technical inquiries from operators, engineers, maintenance personnel and Customer regarding SMT equipment malfunctions, process deviations, and component placement issues. Assists/Lead diagnosing problems through analysis of error codes, machine logs, and visual inspection, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions. Provide remote troubleshooting support via phone, email, and remote access tools. Conduct on-site troubleshooting and repairs as needed, including adjustments to machine parameters and component placement settings. Ensures availability of all required materials and supplies, using the appropriate lift trucks, hand jacks and other equipment once certifications are achieved. Operates equipment, including troubleshooting and making adjustments in accordance with established work standards. Cleans and assembles equipment according to standard operating procedures. Conducts quality checks at regular intervals; inspects ingredients and finished product to ensure product is processed according to specifications. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Casting Preparation & Equipment Operation Preheat ovens and load molds in accordance with the casting schedule, verifying mold identification, loading position, oven temperature, and oxygen levels. Verify ingots against pour schedule and load alloy materials to meet production requirements. Operate vacuum cast furnace and related foundry equipment with attention to safety and quality. Materials & Supplies Maintain daily readiness of foundry equipment and consumables, including filling hot top cans, restocking kaowool pads, and changing crucibles. Load cup ovens, stage carts, and keep supplies organized and accessible. Complete and submit daily supply sheets to supervisor. Housekeeping & Maintenance Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment by cleaning foundry and invest areas, removing waste, and vacuuming floors and equipment. Assist with changeover and cleaning of tanks in the investment department. Record downtime and support preventive maintenance activities. Other Duties Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor or manager to support overall production goals. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: This position reports directly to the Production Supervisor. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, twist, and reach regularly throughout the work shift. Capable of lifting and carrying up to 35 pounds independently. Good hand-eye coordination and depth perception required for safe operation of tools and equipment. Must be able to work in a foundry environment with exposure to heat, dust, noise, and varying temperatures. PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or GED required. Prior experience in foundry, metal casting, or manufacturing preferred but not required - training provided. Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to learn specialized equipment and processes. Strong attention to detail with commitment to safety and quality standards. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
