Job Summary:
Simon's internship program is designed to provide first-hand exposure to industry operations, as well as 1:1 mentorship and networking opportunities to students in order to supplement college educational programs in the areas of business, engineering, and construction management. Students in the program have the opportunity to work in various administrative and operational areas, contribute to company goals through completion of focused project work, and apply concepts learned in the classroom to business operations.
As part of the internship program, participates in projects and work related to quality control and production of aggregate, ready-mix, or asphalt/emulsion.
Main Responsibilities:
* Embrace the Company's safety culture, actively support all safety initiatives, and adhere to defined accountabilities implemented by the Safety Steering and Continuous Improvement teams
* Support, promote, and practice the Company core values, vision, and mission; follow code of ethics, workplace conduct, safety, and other established policies
* Participating in production and quality control planning
* Assisting quality control staff with lab duties related to materials testing and mix designs
* Performing aggregate sampling and gradation testing at quarries, gravel pits and testing lab sites
* Assisting work crews in manufacturing and crushing operations
* Operating heavy equipment
* Performing manual and skilled labor tasks
* Completing other projects as a part of the internship program requirements
* Meet regularly with assigned mentor to discuss ideas, navigate challenges, and gain insight
* Complete capstone project/presentation to be shared with Company leadership at the end of the internship
Education:
* Current enrollment in a relevant Bachelor's degree program such as Mining Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Civil Engineering or equivalent

Manage the closeout matrix and rolling completion log; compile operation and maintenance manuals for owner closeout packages.
Assist in other duties as assigned, relevant to the achievement of the position's and team's objectives.
Qualifications
CEM, Mechanical or Electrical University degree or equivalent experience.
Engineering Working knowledge of plans, prints, specifications, and schematics associated with M&E trades.
Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing construction procedures and practices.
Computer literate.
Possess excellent communication and organizational skills.
Must possess a valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record in accordance with Fortis policy.
Physical Requirements
Work is performed on an active construction site. Role requires standing or walking for long periods of time. Utilize standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, etc. Communication with internal and external contacts, including speaking and hearing. May occasionally move equipment up to 50 lbs.
Travel Requirements
All Fortis positions require some level of driving.
