PURPOSE OF THE JOB The Sr. Engineering Specialist (Manufacturing Engineer) ensures that our end product meets customer needs. This position is responsible for initiating and implementing technical improvements, preventing and resolving technical problems, and assessing the capabilities of the processes. The manufacturing engineer will provide all aspects of technical leadership in the improvement of manufacturing processes, manufacturing equipment efficiencies, and product quality. Reports to: Technical Leader JOB RESPONSIBILITIES The employee duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: * Adhere to all plant and position-specific safety policies, procedures, and standards * Develop and implement procedures and systems to ensure products consistently meet or exceed customer expectations * Support process and product development trials * Maintain master files and history on all specifications and procedures * Identify opportunities for process improvement resulting in increased productivity, improved product quality, and reduced process variability * Analyze product and process data, providing feedback and making recommendations to optimize performance * Monitor and maintain all process-related programs to control product specifications and set points * Implement best practices for process setup, maintenance, and process control * Perform spot-checks and routine audits related to the production process and quality testing * Provide technical support to Operations, Maintenance and Leadership, as well as all customers * Provide leadership and project management to improve product quality, equipment uptime, and line utilization at the Joplin plant. * Utilize Root Cause Analysis methods to problem solve process issues and increase equipment reliability, process capability, and improve product quality. * Apply sound engineering practices towards the completion of improvement projects. * Provide project management to capital projects to ensure on-time and on-budget completion. * Identify and eliminate common causes of product and process variation (troubleshooting). * Identify and implement process improvements and best practices. Improvements may originate from S&T, ISBMS, or other facilities * Must partner with COE for mineral wool. * Implement corrective actions for issues surfaced through quality complaints and hold tags. * Identify and request capital funding for equipment, modifications, etc. * Coach, train, mentor and provide leadership to equipment operators, maintenance technicians, and production technicians on the manufacturing process and process control procedures. * Partner with Maintenance to develop and implement Total Productive Maintenance plans for equipment to ensure employee understanding and ownership * Partner with our Product Technical Leaders to develop Product Specifications that are achievable and capable in the manufacturing environment. For more information visit ******************* ABOUT THE POSITION As a Welding Engineer/ Welding Educator at EaglePicher, you will be a subject matter expert for welding at multiple manufacturing sites performing high-reliability resistance, fusion, and ultrasonic joining operations. Processes include gas-tungsten arc and laser beam fusion welding, micro resistance spot welding, brazing, and ultrasonic joining on a variety of challenging materials. You will provide input on new product designs as it relates to welding, develop, and qualify new welding processes, spec and implement equipment, support failure investigations, and conduct company-wide welding training and certification. This position is responsible for developing the manufacturing weld processes and tooling for existing products, supporting new product launches and overseeing weld personnel development and training. The Weld Engineer leads the continuous improvement, development and maintenance of welding related processes, procedures, specifications and applications for new and existing products. Essential Functions: * Lead continuous improvement weld activities within the manufacturing engineering department for both manual and automated robotic weld applications * Be utilized as a subject matter expert for welding, both manual and robotic applications * Develop and support Welding Procedure Specifications, Manufacturing Engineering Procedures, and Manufacturing Engineering Work Instructions * Maintain all WPS for W&C Suspensions * Assist in the procurement and application of welding machines, equipment and consumables * Develop training materials and coordinate, perform and oversee training for welding related positions * Provide technical direction during the design and testing phase of programs while working with R&D Engineering to ensure a repeatable and quality weld process * Provides technical information concerning manufacturing processes, equipment requirements, process advantages and limitations, and both short-term and long-term plant and process planning * Compiles and analyzes equipment and process operational data to establish performance standards for newly implemented or modified equipment, fixtures, and / or processes * Recommend and implement methods, process, or layout changes to reduce overall costs, improve quality, and expand manufacturing capabilities * Other duties as assigned * Maintains regular attendance Education and Training * Bachelor's degree in an engineering field is required (Weld Engineering preferred) * Formal training in robotic systems, metal fabrication, and arc welding. Minimum Qualifications * 8+ years of experience in Manufacturing or Weld Engineering. * Candidate must demonstrate an ability to read and understand engineering drawings, GD&T, and weld symbology. * Hands-on experience with welding is required. MIG and Pulse preferred. * In-depth knowledge of practical welding standards, AWS D1.1, as set forth by the American Welding Society is required * Solidworks CAD, WeldPro CAD, and FANUC Robotic expertise is strongly preferred * AWS-CWI preferred or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment Physical Demands * Some light lifting, mixture of standing and sitting.
