    Summary/Objective As part of the Manufacturing Engineering team, design and develop the 3-D CAD models and supporting documentation to fully define the manufacturing and process steps required to manufacture tight tolerance, mechanical components and assemblies in a robust, repeatable, and reliable manner. This includes the design and development of fixtures, tooling, gages, and test equipment. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Define the process operations, and correct sequencing of these operations, to support the manufacture of quality mechanical components and assemblies. Design and develop fixtures, tooling, and gages using Solidworks as the primary CAD system, using best practices including DFM, DFA, DTC and stack analysis. May include the design and development of engineering and production test fixtures. A portion of this effort will require a working knowledge of AutoCad. Define the product configuration and part geometry in fully dimensioned 2-D drawings directly linked to 3-D files for each manufacturing operation. A solid understanding of GD&T is a must. Manage Bill of Materials, including a full definition of material selection and raw material configuration. Ensure proper documentation of design revisions for the full Technical Data Package including CAD, BOM, engineering masters, routings, etc. Initiate and participate in cross-functional design reviews to ensure new designs are optimized for manufacturability. Support the development and execution of project timelines. Provide technical input to Applications Engineering in support of process improvements to streamline the process from Design to finish product. Provide manufacturing floor support processing issues and promote continuous improvement initiatives. Work within a team that specifies, evaluates, justifies, and implements capital equipment projects throughout the plants and to continuously strive to evaluate technology as to its application at providing the most efficient process. A Research Engineer conducts research in various fields of engineering to design and develop technology and to carry out investigations, evaluation, and application of engineering theories and principles. These positions will be based on two-year terms which will be renewable based on performance and abilities to secure and support externally funded research. **Essential Functions** Performs a variety of research and development activities requiring the application of engineering practices and principles. Duties and Responsibilities Responsible for supporting the leaders of the Collagen and Skinless processes. Manufacture finished products following established Safety and Quality Control guidelines; meeting established efficiencies for lower process cost by adhering to established administrative procedures, specifications and process operating methods. Implement a variety of casing conversion projects such as equipment upgrades, process improvements, product and process performance testing, data collection, implementation and new product development. Monitor implemented, suggested and planned improvements, ensure that within the improvement's guidelines are adhered to and product specifications are met, track individual machine formats as well as the completion of the same by the personnel involved, ensure paperwork required by traceability standards. Follow up on orders established by the process leaders of the Collagen and Skinless area. Make the necessary adjustments in the equipment and/or control systems so that the product and the operating variables comply with the quality specifications. Give the necessary instructions to the personnel, direct and manage the operating personnel so that they perform their tasks correctly. In agreement with the Collagen and Skinless process leaders. Request support from support areas that complement the Collagen and Skinless process team. Tracks production schedule compliance. Reports efficiencies and implements improvements to reduce lead times and reduce waste. Works with the Collagen and Skinless production leaders during the shift to perform any necessary sampling or adjustments for quality control to ensure compliance with the established specification.
