(Gala) Position Location: Eagle Rock, VA FLSA Class: Position Type: Full-time Main position objectives The Manufacturing Engineer develops and produces high quality CNC programs and processes in a manner that promotes high accuracy, quality, and on-time delivery for MAAG's Die Plate Machine Shop. The ideal candidate will have a strong vision that supports a first-time-right manufacturing strategy from design to completion, identify process improvements, guides and leads the programming team, and facilitates collaboration between Die Plate Engineering and Manufacturing Operations. Position description - Tasks, responsibilities, competencies Safety: Work in a safe and efficient manner, understand safety risks and take appropriate caution Technical: Create, edit, and optimize NC programs and identify points of improvement. Determine and calculate speed/feed data such that tool life and productivity are balanced Design and build machining fixtures where applicable Identify appropriate tooling and workholding for each job Standard Work: Develop and uphold standard tooling, machining operations, speed/feed data, and setups Produce detailed setup sheets, expected operation times, and additional documentation for shop floor operations Provide documentation and justification for process changes Strategy: Evaluate components for potential insourcing and cost reduction, as well as provide insight on new product design Participate in CAPEX planning and justification for new equipment Evaluate production processes and provide recommendations to improve flow Team: Lead programming team and facilitate collaboration between programmers Work closely with design engineering to provide feedback on design for manufacture Establish quality relationships with machine operators The incumbent considers all interests of quality, accident prevention and occupational safety as well as environmental safety in a preventive manner within his scope of responsibility and supports the avoidance of damages to people, facilities, assets, material and environment actively. This job description reflects current status, right to make changes reserved. Work Environment Work in this position is both in an office and machine shop environment. The employee may be exposed to airborne particles, metal shavings, sharp cutting tools, and moving mechanical parts while on the shop floor. PPE and hearing protection are required at all times while on the shop floor. Physical Requirements This position will require sitting in front of a PC for extended periods of time as well as some walking and standing. Job Specification Education Mandatory High School diploma or equivalent education 4-year BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related fields. You will own supplier technical relationships, coach on internal processes/specs/methods, qualify new suppliers, and help develop and industrialize alternate casting technologies. **Job Description** **Roles and Responsibilities** + Provide process and product technical leadership for the Castings commodity, including SX or equiax investment castings. + Develop strong working relationships with casting supplier technical teams. + Partner with suppliers to identify and implement corrective actions to eliminate the cause and prevent recurrence. + Act as a change agent to advance world-class performance and standard work across the supply base. + Own supplier technical relationships; mentor suppliers on GE Aerospace processes, specifications, and methods; ensure compliance and capability. + Lead cross-functional problem solving, to identify true root cause and implement sustainable corrective and preventive actions. + Improve manufacturability through design-for-casting, specification clarity, and process capability improvements. + Clearly communicate progress, risks, challenges, and countermeasures to leadership and stakeholders. + Review and approve significant/special processes; ensure adherence to standards and qualification requirements. + Collaborate with Quality and Design Engineering to ensure new and changed processes meet established metrics; align with other commodities on strategy and objectives + Partner with suppliers and internal teams to interpret drawings/specifications, ensuring conformance and clarity. + Identify and onboard new suppliers; lead technical qualifications and readiness through Manufacturing and Quality Planning reviews and support supplier Castings Audits. + Ability to travel to supplier sites 30%-50% **Minimum Required Qualifications** + Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Materials/Metallurgy, Mechanical, Manufacturing, or related field) + Minimum of 5 years of materials engineering, castings, mechanical engineering or a related field **Desired Characteristics and Experience** + Additive manufacturing experience. + Metal Injection Molding (MIM) experience. + Proficiency with Siemens NX or comparable CAD. + Sand Castings Experience. + Titanium Experience. + Significant experience in investment castings (SX or equiax), with demonstrated yield, capability, and cost improvements + Hands-on expertise across investment casting special processes (wax, shell, melt/solidification control, heat treat, HIP, NDT) and specification compliance. + Strong problem solving and project management skills. + New Product Introduction experience. + Experience maturing technologies and processes. + Excellent communication and stakeholder management; ability to influence without authority + Humble learner: Respectful, receptive to feedback, agile, and continuously improving; seeks out diverse perspectives. + Transparent communicator: Shares critical information proactively; speaks with candor; engages constructively to resolve issues. + Focused and accountable: Fast learner with strong ownership; meets commitments and drives results against SQDC targets ( _Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost in that order)_ . **Pay and Benefits:** + The salary range for this position is $ 116,000.00 - 155,000.00. Primary duties will include (but not limited to): Provide on-site technical support for the Electro-Optic Support Facility (EOSF) at MCSC Quantico in support of the Product Manager Infantry Weapons (PdM IW) program. The EOSF tests a broad range of optical systems to include day optical systems, image intensification systems, laser systems, and thermal systems. Conduct electro-optical system testing, surveillance, troubleshooting, maintenance management, test plan development, test method development, and test equipment upkeep. Maintain inventory control and properly document the accountability of all equipment within the EOSF. Provide technical analysis of test results, process testing data, participate in limited user evaluations, support government shipping of equipment to and from the EOSF, and ensure Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the EOSF are maintained and followed. Tasks include specifying, selecting, and qualifying active and passive optical components, developing and benchmarking system performance models, developing and implementing test procedures, and evaluating and selecting appropriate test instrumentation.
