The “Lithium Metal Anode Manufacturing Scientist” position is a hands-on role within the fast-growing Lithium R&D team located in Kings Mountain, NC. The successful candidate will join a diverse and passionate team developing new lithium-based products and technologies for Albemarle and its customers.

The Lithium Metal Anode Manufacturing Scientist will spearhead development of advanced lithium metal anodes for current and future generations of high energy density batteries, targeting cost effective manufacturing and cell level performance/useful life. The position requires innovative and hands-on independent laboratory work and collaboration across groups, internally and externally. Success in the position will open career growth opportunities within and outside the R&D team.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Design high performance lithium metal anodes by developing anode/foil processing techniques with the ultimate goal of scale-up and commercialization Practice proper laboratory procedures in compliance with Corporate HS&E policies and maintain a safe lab environment Collaborate with a broad technical team and proactively share data to achieve optimal outcomes and meet timebound technical milestones Generate lithium foils and laminates for R&D and customers at the gram to multi-kilogram scale Characterize physical properties of lithium in different forms Document experiments, observations, and results clearly in both written and electronic formats

Required Qualifications
A Ph.D. degree in metallurgy, materials science, chemistry, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, or related scientific discipline1-3 years of metallurgic experience, including all or some of the following techniques: extrusion, rolling, and lamination of metals At least 1 year of hands-on experience working with lithium metal Strong background in metal processing including melting, alloying, and various processes to shape metal products suitable for customer needs. Experience in rolling and casting is an advantage.Able to find innovative solutions to technical challenges

**Scientist - External Manufacturing - Chicago, IL or Hackettstown, NJ**

The External Manufacturing Scientist role supports external manufacturing quality initiatives in the region to ensure the ongoing production of high quality and safe food products within the external manufacturing network. This role ensures the implementation of all applicable Mars Global Quality and Food Safety Standards. In addition, supports qualification, product start up, performance management, and process improvement initiatives at Mars Wrigley Confectionary external manufacturing locations. The incumbent will use food science, engineering knowledge, quality management, project management and cost of quality skills to identify opportunities to improve consumer satisfaction, optimize processes and establish measures of quality conformance.

**What are we looking for?**

+ BS degree in Chemistry, Food Science, Engineering or related technical field required

+ Advanced MS degree in Chemistry, Food Science, Engineering or related technical field

+ 2 or more years of quality experience in a food manufacturing facility

+ A minimum of 3 years of experience in a technical area such as Quality & Food Safety, R&D product development, laboratory management quality systems, or food process engineering

+ Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently and as a member of a team

+ Experienced auditor with accreditation in GFSI Quality systems such as SQF, BRC, FSSC 22000, ISO9000

**What would your key responsibilities?**

Initiates, develops, and implements the External Manufacturing Product Risk Assessments (EMPRA) and Technical Specifications (TS 1, 2, 3) for assigned external manufacturers. Ensures robust change management procedure is in place and verified.

+ Provides technical support in statistical analysis, problem solving, product disposition, and risk assessment related to externally manufactured products.

+ Leads audits and follow up on CAPA/CI implementations at the external manufacturing sites

+ Coordinates and leads incident management and investigation for assigned external manufacturers. This responsibility includes initiation of PRIMPs, on-going interpretation and reporting of information from our consumers and customers, executes the business decision regarding product disposition on non-confirming product and incidents which impact food safety.

+ Support Quality Systems operator with managing and executing testing for the product verification program at sites of responsibility
