Responsible for the implementation of lean and six sigma process improvement projects. This position is “hands on” and mechanically inclined to bridge the gap between existing work stations and practices, to new and improved work stations and practices. The position requires the ability to build new workstations as recommended and train new lead people on operational logistics. The types of wastes generated during production may include ignitable solvents, solvent wipers and debris, used oil, non-hazardous resins, and non-hazardous solids. Technicians manage satellite storage of these wastes. Responsible for verifying that satellite containers are compatible with their contents and are sealed unless waste is physically being added or removed. Ensure that all satellite containers used to accumulate waste are approved by the U.S Department of Transportation (DOT), and that containers are labeled with the words Hazardous Waste and other words that further describe the waste. Because Technicians routinely handle hazardous waste and Orafol is a large quantity generator (LQG), Technicians are required to attend annual hazardous waste training required by 40 CFR 262.34 (a)(4). Technicians verify that satellite accumulation areas are located at or near the point of generation (The facility may only accumulate up to 55 gallons of hazardous waste or 1 quart of acute hazardous waste at each satellite accumulation area). When the quantity limit is reached or a container is full, Technicians are required to add the accumulation start date to the container label and, within three days, transfer the waste container to the hazardous waste storage area. Prior to transferring containers to the hazardous waste storage area, Technicians are responsible for remove the attached pour off funnels, if present, and seal the container with U.N. approved closures (i.e. bungs). Technicians use appropriate container handling procedures and equipment to minimize the potential for a release of hazardous waste during transfer. Technicians are also responsible for placing containers in the appropriate storage location within the hazardous waste storage area and for verifying that waste containers have adequate secondary containment. This includes segregating potentially incompatible wastes. In the event of a release of hazardous waste, Technicians will isolate the immediate area, warn others in the affected area and notify the primary and/or alternate emergency coordinator. ORAFOL employees are only authorized to respond to incidental releases as defined by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) in 29 CFR 1910.120. Position Overview As a Senior Production Technician on the Plant Operations team, you will be a hands-on leader responsible for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and repair of hydropower plant equipment and systems. In addition to technical expertise, you'll play a key mentoring role-guiding junior technicians and setting high standards in safety, reliability, and performance. Your leadership and technical acumen will be instrumental in advancing our clean energy mission and ensuring the operational excellence of our facilities. Key Responsibilities Lead the safe operation, monitoring, and maintenance of hydropower generation stations. Perform and oversee complex maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair tasks on turbines and associated systems. Supervise gate changes and ensure accurate, timely documentation. Monitor and report critical conditions and instrument readings during periods of significant runoff to support real-time decision-making. Plan and execute station and dam operations with strict adherence to safety protocols. Diagnose and resolve hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical issues; provide technical recommendations. Lead the implementation of a comprehensive equipment quality assessment and issue reporting program. Act as a contractor liaison as needed, reporting to supervisors or project managers. Ensure team compliance with Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental (HSSE) protocols. Operate in compliance with FERC regulations and support site readiness. Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to junior Production Technicians. Set and model high standards in adaptability, professionalism, and response to emergencies or shifting priorities. Support operational continuity by being available for on-call duties, overtime, and emergency call-ins. Qualifications 5+ years of experience in hydropower operations with strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills. Background in technical training, the military, or a relevant industry strongly preferred. Proficiency in reading and interpreting complex schematics (electrical, hydraulic, mechanical). Hands-on experience in rigging, lifting, welding, and electrical repair is a plus. Demonstrated leadership, mentoring, and problem-solving abilities. Strong communication skills and ability to thrive in both independent and collaborative environments. Valid driver's license and willingness to travel regionally, including occasional overnight stays. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook. Experience with hydro turbine/generator systems, industrial electrical systems, and PLCs is strongly preferred. Familiarity with PLC programming and troubleshooting is a significant advantage.
