Education and Experience * Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Engineering, Business, or other computer-related degree required. * 10+ years of diversified IT experience required. * 3+ years of experience leading professional staff required. * Strong communication and change leadership * Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC) strongly preferred * Experience with Operational Technology (OT) strongly preferred. * Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) preferred * Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) preferred * Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) preferred * Strong understanding of Portfolio and Agile management preferred. AES Clean Energy (AES) is seeking a Transmission Strategy Market Lead for the ERCOT region, and possibly additional markets, to join our Transmission Strategy team. This role is responsible for both transmission planning and nodal production cost modeling. AES is at the forefront of technical and strategic innovation. This team is central to continuing our industry leadership as one of the largest U.S. Independent Clean Power Producers, across Solar, Wind, and Storage. This ERCOT Market Lead, Transmission Strategy role, will serve as the principal Transmission Strategy lead for ERCOT, and possibly additional continental US energy markets. The Transmission Strategy team is responsible for setting a transmission focused market-wide strategy in all Continental U.S. energy markets, and integrating that strategy across AES teams, including Development, Commercial, Execution, and other teams. The Transmission Strategy team is also responsible for project specific assessment of network impacts, and deliverability risks and opportunities. The Transmission Strategy team relies on a combination of traditional transmission planning and load flow analysis, while pioneering innovative approaches to anticipate transmission network opportunities and risks. Desired Skills, Expertise, etc. * Deep relevant experience including transmission planning, market design, interconnection policy, resource adequacy and/or market operations is required. Experience with multiple Regional Transmission Organizations (RTO) and other non-RTO regions is a plus, but not a requirement. * Experience personally running power flow and stability analysis (i.e. power GEM TARA, Powerworld, GE PSLF, Siemens PSS/E) required. Ideally, demonstrated project management experience including some experience overseeing others to run power flow studies, and experience with contractors running power flow studies is preferred. * Experience personally running nodal production cost modeling (i.e., PROMOD, UPLAN, GE MAPS, Aurora), and evaluating dispatch trends, curtailment trends and locational marginal pricing trends.. * Experience with ISO/RTO/TO Transmission Planning, Generation Interconnection, and processes and related stakeholder processes required. Experience with Resource Adequacy processes is a plus. * Experience with reviewing and negotiating Transmission Services Agreements (TSAs) preferred. Experience with assessing strategies for wheeling across balancing authorities, is beneficial. * Experience with renewable energy development is beneficial. * Ability to create a positive and productive teamwork environment. * Ability to communicate effectively in both commercial and technical venues. Develop and present permit strategies, track permit efforts, and present at hearings as needed. * Project Scheduling and Budgeting: Take ownership of development schedules and budgets, ensuring thorough planning and risk management to deliver projects efficiently, within scope and cost parameters. * Due Diligence: Conduct and coordinate site studies, environmental surveys, geotechnical investigations, and diligence reports to validate site viability and reduce project risk. * Engineering and Design Coordination: Work closely with internal and external engineering teams to develop scalable, resilient, and sustainable data center designs. Engage construction management teams for contractor selection and pre-construction planning. * Interconnection and Utilities: Collaborate with utility providers and interconnection specialists to secure robust power supply and redundant connectivity for each facility. Manage relationships with utility companies and coordinate the interconnection process. * Stakeholder Engagement: Foster strong relationships with local officials, community leaders, customers, and other stakeholders. Ensure projects have good standing in local communities and meet all incentive and compliance requirements. * Contract Management: Oversee contract obligations in key project documents, ensuring terms are met and risks are addressed proactively. * Team Coordination: Lead project meetings with internal and external stakeholders, including engineering, permitting, legal, finance, construction, real estate, external consultants, and commercial teams. * Pipeline Reporting: Support business development teams through diligent reporting and analysis of development pipeline and project status. * Resource Management: Coordinate additional resources such as outside consultants and contractors, managing expenses and optimizing use of expertise throughout project development. * Market Research: Research emerging data center markets and support identification of new development prospects. * Project Handoff: Transition fully developed and permitted projects to the execution team for construction. Skills and Qualifications * Minimum of 5 years' project development experience in data centers, renewable energy, or large-scale infrastructure development. * Strong knowledge of data center project development, permitting, contracting, utilities, and interconnection processes. Familiarity with fiber networks, electrical redundancy, and various forms of energy technologies is a plus. * Bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental science, business, finance, logistics, project/construction management, information technology, or a related field. The AES CE Senior Renewables Performance Engineer is responsible for supporting the operational portfolio of solar, wind, and battery storage projects by analyzing operational performance trends.
