Bowhead Transport Company is seeking a year-round Assistant Port Captain, based in Anchorage, AK, to support the Port Captain in managing vessels operating in the waters of Washington, Canada, and Alaska. This role is responsible for helping ensure safe operations across all Bowhead Transport vessels and providing a range of timely support services as directed by the Port Captain.
Responsibilities
Essential functions will include:
Ensuring the safety of all Bowhead crew and passengers, including conducting safety training and monitoring and supplying all vessel safety equipment.
Scheduling, planning, and overseeing haul-outs, shipyard work, and seasonal repairs and maintenance on all Bowhead Transport vessels, coordinating with vessel crews and Bowhead Transport management.
Coordinating the purchase of equipment and operational supplies for all vessels, working with captains, engineers, deckhands, and Bowhead management staff as needed.
Providing expeditor services, including driving or flying parts and supplies as requested by the Port Captain.
Advertising vessel crew positions and coordinating the onboarding process in collaboration with UIC HR.
Assisting the Port Captain in managing vessel crews, including email, phone, and in-person communication.
Tracking and managing crew turnovers.
Reserving hotels, flights, and ground transportation for crew traveling to or from work.
Arranging all services in each port prior to vessel arrival and departure, including vessel moorage, fueling, provisioning, transportation, equipment rental, laydown yard space, and coordination with other company personnel, ensuring all port arrangements and contacts are provided to vessels in advance.
Temporarily filling in for vessel crew members in emergencies or when a licensed crew position is vacant (if the Assistant Port Captain holds a USCG license).
Traveling as needed to support vessel operations.
Assisting vessel crews or land-based staff with loading, lashing, consolidating, and manifesting cargo at port locations when additional help is required.
Maintaining Bowhead equipment, both land-based and at sea, including winterizing, repairing or replacing parts, securing storage, and ensuring all equipment is operational and safe.
Performing other duties as assigned by the Port Captain or Bowhead management.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Valid driver's license.
Current USCG Captain's License, USCG deck license, AB, or OS preferred (additional training and licenses may be considered after hire, depending on applicant qualifications).
Local resident of Anchorage, Alaska, or surrounding area preferred.
General PC knowledge, including proficiency with spreadsheet software, word processing software, and MS Office Suite.
Strong interpersonal skills with a positive “anything is possible” attitude, problem-solving ability, and sound judgment.
Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure, including during physically demanding work, potentially hazardous situations, and unpredictable weather.
Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including hours outside of a standard 8-5 workday, with occasional work exceeding 40 hours per week during the primary operating season (April-October).

Must post station bills and muster cards and ensure that all crewmembers are familiar with their respective stations and duties in case of an emergency.
Complete all required training, disciplinary action forms, evaluations and other personnel-related documentation. Ensure that all injuries, or illnesses of crewmembers occurring on vessel be reported.
Responsible for setting the safety culture on the vessel and ensure all members comply with the Company Safety Program and all training requirements. Conduct monthly drills and safety meetings in accordance with company policies and procedures.
Responsible for reporting all accidents and spills on any Company tow or boat, other vessels or tows, fixed objects such as buoys, or damage which results in cargo loss, contamination, spills or pollution.
Required Skills, Experience, and Education:
Valid Driver's License.
Must have a U.S. Coast Guard license as Master Operator, uninspected towing vessels, endorsed for service on inland waters.
Hold a valid personal Radio License issued by FCC.
Radar Observer Certificate.

Bowhead operates the M/V Solomon. classified as a 32' high speed landing craft used in "special missions" supporting Homeland Security waterway operations. The Solomon has two missions that you would support, tactical boat maneuvers and aerial delivery recovery. This is an opportunity to serve and support the training and development of a pilot's skills in tactical maneuvering and search and rescue.
Captains essential duties:
Safety of crew and vessel.
Ensures safety equipment is utilized and appropriate guidelines are followed for all tasks involving physical risk or hazardous materials.
Knowledge of shipboard safety procedures and use of all firefighting and safety equipment, highly desired.

Qualifications
USCG Merchant Marine Master's license 100 ton or greater, required. Plus TWIC card.

Bowhead Marine Support Services is accepting resumes for part-time Captains to operate a 32' high speed vessel during training operations at Mobile Bay. Position is located in Baldwin County, Fairhope, Alabama.
Responsibilities
LOCATION: Vessel departs and returns from Fairhope, Alabama (Baldwin County). Due to the mission requirements for this task order, ONLY local Baldwin County residents capable of responding/arriving to assigned dock location in a timely manner will be considered.
Essential responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Monitors preparation of vessel and equipment.
Ensures safe and effective operation of the vessel.
Bowhead Marine Support Services is seeking part time on call Captains to support ship readiness and operations for the US Coast Guard's Aviation Training Center (ATC). The ATC's mission is to train and produce mission-ready aircrews and develop aviation capabilities. Involves shipboard operations, rigging for helicopter operations, and deck seamanship. Bowhead operates the M/V Andale'. classified as a 32' high speed landing craft used in "special missions" supporting Homeland Security waterway operations. The Andale' has two missions that you would support, tactical boat maneuvers and aerial delivery recovery. This is an opportunity to serve and support the training and development of a pilot's skills in tactical maneuvering and search and rescue.
Captains essential duties:
Safety of crew and vessel.
Ensures safety equipment is utilized and appropriate guidelines are followed for all tasks involving physical risk or hazardous materials.
Knowledge of shipboard safety procedures and use of all firefighting and safety equipment, highly desired.
Participate in meetings, training, drills and safety audits as required.

Qualifications
USCG Merchant Marine Master's license 100 ton or greater, required. Plus TWIC card.
Minimum of two (2) years of experience operating twin outboard powered vessels greater than 30 feet in length required.
Local resident of Baldwin County preferred due to location of vessels and mission activity.
Military experience preferred. Coast Guard or Navy experience highly desired.
General PC knowledge required including; spreadsheet software, word processing software and knowledge of MS Office Suite.
Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team.
Individual should have stability under pressure and have the ability to withstand the stresses associated with the job's physical demands, potentially hazardous situations, and unpredictable weather.
Physical Demands: The work environment varies and includes, but is not limited to: dock, port, bay, waterways, office space, equipment rooms, warehouse space, construction zones, and outdoor environments. Work hours may fluctuate outside of normal duty hours. While performing the duties of this job, the individual is:
Regularly required to sit, use hands to handle, move, manipulate or feel objects, talk and/or hear.
Frequently required to stand and/or walk and routinely required to reach with hands and arms.
Routinely required to stand, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or squat.
Frequently lifts and /or moves up to 50 pounds and occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 75 pounds.
Occasionally lifts and/or moves 75-100 pounds with the assistance of deckhands and/or heavy lifting equipment.
CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: There are currently no Security Clearance requirements for this position. Due to the location of this work, US Citizenship is required. Bowhead reserves the right to change this requirement if necessitated by business needs or contractual obligations.

Job Duties
Under broad direction, responsible for operating aircraft in accordance with the approved AFM, FAR, and company Flight Operations Manual.
Performs the duties of Pilot-in-Command (PIC) and has full authority and responsibility for the safe operation of the aircraft on assigned flights.
Supervises all crew members assigned to flight.
Ensures completion of preflight inspection and confirms that all required equipment, paperwork and supplies are onboard the aircraft prior to departure.
Obtains a complete weather briefing for departure, en-route, destination and alternate airports.
Reviews aircraft performance and calculates weight and balance to ensure that the flight will be conducted within aircraft operating limits.
Reports cancellation or diversion of a flight to the dispatcher and Chief Pilot and Director of Aviation.
Coordinates with the lead passenger concerning passenger arrangements.
Utilizes cockpit flows and checklists and completes all required trip paperwork.
Ensures that a thorough post-flight inspection is completed following each flight.
Completes customs and general declaration forms as required and maintains custody and control of passengers prior to clearing customs and/or immigrations.
Possesses the authority to refuse transportation to any person or object if their carriage poses any risk to the safety of the aircraft or its occupants.
May also be responsible for additional Training Officer and/or Safety Officer-related duties as assigned, including the development of training and safety plans.
Qualifications
Requires a high school diploma and a minimum of 10 years of flight operations experience, including Pilot-in-Command experience.
Requires a minimum of 5000 hours of total flight time, including 2500 hours of multi-engine flight time and 1000 hours of jet flight time.
Federal Aviation Administration Airline Transport Pilot (FAA ATP) license with multi-engine and instrument rating, 1st Class Medical license, Federal Communications Commission (FCC) license, and valid US passport required.
Gulfstream V type rating and international experience preferred.
Candidates having qualifications that exceed the minimum job requirements will receive consideration for higher level roles given (1) their experience, (2) additional job requirements, and/or (3) business needs. Depending on education, experience, and skill level, a variety of job opportunities might be available including Senior Captain.
