What you will do:
This is work responsible for providing residential care, assisting with enrichment activities and supporting the treatment, psychiatric rehabilitation, stabilization and recovery of people with a mental illness. As a Human Services Worker II you will treat people in a respectful manner that preserves their dignity and rights and maintain a professional caregiver relationship with people served.
How you will make an impact:
The incumbent is responsible for preserving the rights, safety and security of people served by observing them:
* At all times to learn what type of environment and interactions make them feel safe, secure and calm and to identify distressful stimuli or triggers:
When providing ward coverage.
When escorting to and from activities and appointments to ensure that they arrive safely.
During meals to monitor intake and ensure that they don't choke or trade food.
When a person served is placed on special observation status to address dangerous or high risk behaviors.
When a restrictive intervention such as seclusion or restraints is used to assess for release criteria and immediately identify health needs that may arise.
Communicating with them:
* At all times to develop a trusting, caregiver relationship and identify signs of distress or health concerns.
When a person served is placed on special observation status, in the seclusion room or in restraints to assure the person that he or she is safe, help them develop trust in you as a caregiver and identify signs of distress or health concerns.
Intervening:
* To separate them from distressful stimuli and assist in resolving conflict.
* To ensure that people served are not neglected, abused or exploited; or to ensure that it is reported to the abuse hotline if they are.
* To ensure safety during medical or disaster emergencies.
* To ensure safety when a person served is exhibiting a behavior dangerous to self or others, which may involve the use of physical holds and placing people served in a seclusion room or mechanical restraints.
Qualifications:
* Must be 18 years of age at time of hire.
* Six months of experience working in a medical, psychiatric, nursing, or childcare setting, customer service experience or in working with developmentally disabled persons; or in working in a correctional facility OR college or vocational/technical training from an accredited institution at the rate of 15 semester, 22 quarter or 360 classroom hours; OR do you possess a current State of Florida Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.) license.
* Ability to attend a 1 - 2-week mandatory training course that will include completion of a CPR certification. This training could be scheduled during day, weekend, and evening hours.

Program Overview
The Developmental Disabilities Defendant Program operates on the campus of Florida State Hospital in Chattahoochee and at Pathways in Marianna under the auspices of The State of Florida Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD). The Developmental Disabilities Defendant Program (DDDP) is dedicated to empowering persons with developmental disabilities charged with a felony crime to:
1. Acquire the skills and supports that will prepare them for success in their future environments.
2. Acquire the skills needed to become competent to stand trial.
Position Summary
Duties of an Educational and Training Specialist include:
The development, evaluation, and coordination of the Developmental Disabilities Defendant Program and Pathways Training and Professional Development Program.
Research and develop curricula using computer programs such as PowerPoint, Captivate, Articulate or other computer software programs for the improvement and development of our agency staff through New Employee Orientation (NEO) and continuing training.
Ensure In-service training programs are planned, coordinated, delivered, and tracked for compliance, and monitors all annual training requirements for staff.
Update the Learning Management System (LMS) and provide reports as requested.
Administer the crisis prevention and intervention program for the DDDP/Pathways. This includes ordering the required classroom and other materials required by required to maintain professional certification. Coordinate the training schedules for instructors and staff, deliver training as scheduled and provide management reports regarding the status of the certification dates for current staff.
Develop, deliver, coordinate, and/or schedule specialized training to include quarterly staff updates, supervisory, operational, and/or specialized training requested by the Management Team.
Work in partnership with the State Office Training staff to coordinate, schedule and monitor the required online training to ensure that all staff fully comply with required training mandates. Work in partnership with managers and supervisors, generating reports to ensure that all staff are in full compliance with all training mandates.
What We DO
DDDP is a forensic facility working with individuals with disabilities in a secure setting. These individuals have been adjudicated by the courts as incompetent to proceed to trial and have significant behavioral and psychiatric issues. DDDP provides rehabilitative, vocational, and daily living skills training to the individuals served which allows for a smooth transition back into a non-secure residential or community setting.
Pathways is a 34-bed all male forensic facility working with individuals with disabilities in a secure setting. These individuals have been adjudicated by the courts as incompetent to proceed to trial and have significant behavioral and psychiatric issues. Pathways provides rehabilitative, vocational, and daily living skills training to the individuals served which allows for a smooth transition back into a non-secure residential or community setting.

Job location: Florida State Hospital, Chattahoochee, FL.
Hours: Full-time (40 hours per week).
This is a State of Florida Psychiatric Hospital which operates 24/7, 7 days a week. It currently has 223 buildings on campus with a capacity of 1,334 patients. Some patients as young as 13 yrs old. The hospital's current Administration Building is on the National Register of Historic Places.
Types of patients: Two categories of patients are treated at the hospital; those civilly committed under Statute 394, who represent a small portion of the hospital's residents; and those forensically committed under Statute 916. The Civil portion of the hospital houses adult and elderly individuals who have been civilly committed to the hospital, and forensic residents who have been "stepped down" to the civil unit. The civil units are also known as Forensic Transition units. Forensic ward entry has security guards and a metal detector. Most patients are ambulatory young adults age 20-25. Facility also has a small geriatric dorm.
Orientation: No call outs during orientation will be accepted. Restarting NEO or the ability to continue will be at the facility's discretion. NEFSH will provide all required in-house training (MANDT, CPR, etc.) during the first two weeks of orientation following hire.
Leave requests: Once staff begin employment, no leave requests will be accepted during the first eight (8) weeks of employment.
Professional conduct: Facial piercings and cell phone usage are not permitted on any living area or during orientation. They will be dismissed.
Driving requirement: All applicants have a valid driver's license in case if they are asked to transport patients.
