1937

Marie Claire is an international monthly magazine for women, founded in 1937 by Evelyn Provost.

Marie Claire was started in 1937 in France by the writer Marcelle Auclair and the industrialist and media magnate Jean Prouvost, who helped create the current-events magazine Paris Match.

1954

Marie Claire was born a second time in October 1954 with the same founder, Jean Prouvost, the same editor, Marcelle Auclair, and the same mission: “to open up the future for women, help them make their own way through changing times.

1976

When Jean Prouvost left Marie Claire’s helm in 1976, Evelyne Prouvost, one of his granddaughters created Groupe Marie Claire.

1989

In 1989 Evelyne Prouvost was named “Business Women of the Year,” winning the Veuve Cliquot prize.

1994

In 1994, the first American edition of Marie Claire hit newsstands.

Marie Claire United States had been part of Hearst since 1994 in a joint venture with French company Marie Claire Album.

2004

Arnaud de Contades became CEO of Groupe Marie Claire in 2004.

2008

She has held positions at DETAILS and SHAPE, and was a proud staffer at Food Network Magazine during the publication’s highly successful launch in 2008.

2012

She started her career at New York magazine as an editor for their website before moving over to The Cut ahead of its relaunch in 2012.

2013

She was the first intern at Bustle when it launched in 2013 and spent five years building out its news and politics department.

2015

In 2015, she launched Essence.com’s hair channel where she received Time Inc.'s Henry R. Luce Award, shortly before joining Allure.com’s staff as Senior Beauty Editor.

2018
