A marketing manager promotes and sells products or services either online or offline. The job of a marketing manager is to ensure a brand or product is properly positioned, promoted, advertised, and sold across various marketing channels. Marketing managers have the responsibility of creating marketing campaigns that raise brand awareness and attract more customers to a company. This role covers a wide spectrum of duties aimed at promoting company products and services the right way. It may also involve analyses of marketing data and strategic planning aimed at helping a company to grow its customer base.

A marketing manager should possess a bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, or business, and should also have experience in the marketing field. You should be a knowledgeable person in electronic marketing and digital marketing. These qualifications should be backed up with good communication, organization, and leadership skills. A creative mind, a good head for business, and an ability to think strategically will be valuable skills in this role. You should also be able to lead and motivate a team. Marketing managers earn more than $135,900 per year.

Between 2018 and 2028, the career is expected to grow 8% and produce 21,800 job opportunities across the U.S.

In terms of higher education levels, we found that 9.8% of market managers have master's degrees. Even though most market managers have a college degree, it's possible to become one with only a high school degree or GED.

Choosing the right major is always an important step when researching how to become a market manager. When we researched the most common majors for a market manager, we found that they most commonly earn bachelor's degree degrees or associate degree degrees. Other degrees that we often see on market manager resumes include master's degree degrees or high school diploma degrees.

Best States For a Market Manager

Some places are better than others when it comes to starting a career as a market manager. The best states for people in this position are Delaware, New York, Rhode Island, and Virginia. Market managers make the most in Delaware with an average salary of $133,218. Whereas in New York and Rhode Island, they would average $125,189 and $118,572, respectively. While market managers would only make an average of $115,867 in Virginia, you would still make more there than in the rest of the country. We determined these as the best states based on job availability and pay. By finding the median salary, cost of living, and using the Bureau of Labor Statistics' Location Quotient, we narrowed down our list of states to these four.
