Position Summary:

Digital Marketing and Communications Intern

Spirit of America seeks an organized, motivated individual with experience in digital marketing and/or communications (academic or professional) to serve as an intern in support of our development and communications teams. The communications intern will work in close cooperation with the Director of Development Communications and the Communications Coordinator, and will be responsible for providing administrative support, drafting social media and web products, copy editing materials for donors, etc.

The successful candidate will demonstrate an interest in international affairs and a strong desire to dive deeper into the world of marketing. He/she possesses a results-oriented work ethic, a willingness to learn and try new things, and an ability to work independently with minimal supervision. By the time his/her tenure is complete, the intern will gain a broader understanding of how a nonprofit operates, and will have developed important communications skills relating to analytics/SEO, creating and editing compelling copy, successfully implementing communications and marketing strategies, and more.

The communications intern will be based out of the Arlington, VA office. The internship will be between 20-30 hours a week and a minimum 3-month commitment is required; extensions are possible.
Responsibilities:

+ Assist with drafting, editing, and scheduling social media content;

+ Run analytics reports to assess content performance and identify potential areas for opportunity;

+ Maintain and update donor information in Salesforce and Mailchimp;

+ Help with information technology optimization such as Google Analytics, SEO, Hootsuite, and MonsterInsights;

+ Asset/media management;

+ Creating evergreen content for use across all platforms;

+ Conducting market research;

+ Various administrative tasks.

Experience and Qualifications:

+ At least three years of undergraduate education in a communications or digital marketing related field;

+ Experience with Salesforce, Google Analytics, Hootsuite, Word Press, Mailchimp, and Classy is a plus;

+ Demonstrates enthusiasm and an eagerness to learn;

+ The ability to proactively seek out work with minimal guidance;

+ Comfortable juggling multiple tasks at once and can work efficiently in a fast-paced start-up environment;

+ Excellent written communication skills, strong attention to detail, and excellent organizational skills are required.
