Purpose of the Job
The Communications Specialist plays a key role in executing our communications strategies. Working from our HQ, in the DC Metropolitan area, the Communications Specialist supports the creation of print, video, and online products that engage stakeholders and target audiences around the world. As the role is embedded in our work, the Communications Specialist has the opportunity to draw from compelling stories of the children we serve, and come up with creative ways to reach our audiences via print publications media; mainstream and social.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Under editorial and strategic supervision of the Communications Director, the Communications Specialist is to:
Promote Coptic Orphans events and programs by ensuring regular flow of content via social media (LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and any other potential platforms).
Coordinate production, including conducting reviews for accuracy and proper branding, of newsletters, brochures, email blasts, and other print and online products.
Conduct research to support the creation of top-notch print and online products.
Through direct communications with staff and volunteers; develop repository of compelling success stories and establish a strategic schedule for disseminating them for internal and external use for the purpose of deepening donor engagement.
Manage reporting for donors on case improvements.
Update Urgent Needs page, Coptic Orphans website and/or blog contents.
Develop, collect, and manage multimedia products suitable for inclusion in communication products (presentations, appeals, etc.) to each specific country office.
Earn media coverage by developing relationships with members of the press.
Shoot and edit photographs and videos to create powerful story-telling products about Coptic Orphans' impact, and manage the Coptic Orphans' media (photo and video) archive.
Organize data from Salesforce CRM and other sources into clear presentations/dashboards that allow Coptic Orphans to accurately target communications and donor relations efforts.
Optimize use of Google Analytics data to boost supporter engagement and increase donations through Coptic Orphans website. Maintain and keep updated third party websites that publishes our information such as Global-Giving, CFC, Charity Navigator, etc.
Create and refine targeted Google AdWords campaigns to engage new supporters.
Update internal procedural and program manuals for staff use and development.
Recruit and manage volunteers by providing available opportunities and projects at headquarters.
Perform other related tasks and functions as required
Minimum Required Education, Knowledge and Skills
Bachelor's degree and minimum of 3 years of professional experience; 2 of which must be in communications, marketing, media, public relations, fundraising, or closely related field. Master's degree may substitute for 1 years of professional experience.
Passion and convection about the mission of Coptic Orphans.
Strong people skills, enthusiasm for working in a team, Persuasion, polished and articulate communication abilities with a high level of comfort in speaking with donors and other stakeholders.
Comfortable working independently, or under close supervision, depending on the situation.
Demonstrated creativity, reliability, and trouble-shooting abilities.
Graphic design/photo editing experience desirable, especially related to social media.
Passion for, and knowledge of harnessing social media ' particularly FB, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram ' for marketing the Coptic Orphans' cause.
Desirable experience includes: MailChimp or similar email marketing services, Adobe Creative Suit or similar design products, Salesforce or similar customer relations management tools, content management systems such as WordPress, and other design, administrative, and web tools.
Fluency or near-fluency in spoken Arabic and reading Arabic strongly preferred. Familiarity with colloquial Egyptian Arabic is a plus.
May involve occasional domestic or international travel to conferences or presentations
