The successful employee in this role will provide support to KM, Training and ID teams in preparing and editing system-level communications that maintain high standards for quality, consistency, and suitability for intended audiences. These include executive-level communications, customer correspondence, web content, articles, and other communications. The Writer/Communications Specialist is a strategic thinker with sound judgment and the ability to deliver quality communications on short deadline
Goals will be accomplished thru designing, maintaining and/or developing communications, reference documents, other work products and externally sourced documents into the communication management process. Creating or updating content for the Help Systems and/or internal websites and SharePoint sites. You will need to be creative and able to design content that really grasps the reader's attention to maximize the absorption of the message being communicated.
Working in coordination with the KM Manager, the Communication Writer will assume responsibility for the following:
Edit communications with an emphasis on quality and message consistency Collaborate with other staff to create and distribute communications including informational updates, emergency alerts, and other communications to external and internal audiences. Apply expertise in communication effectiveness in creating communications that are complete, concise, clear, correct, considered, courteous and concrete. Ensure quality and standardization of communication output and deliverables through regular reviews. Assist the KM Manger in executing and further improving the KM Service Delivery Model and establish a KM Center of Excellence for GSD. Ensure content is designed/updated on time, on budget, and according to specifications. Update websites and knowledge management sites with current information, making information easy to find and use Coordinate across the platforms to ensure that posted information is accurate, written & communicated consistently and with the correct access controls in place Evaluate all incoming requests to determine timelines and delivery methods.
Follow development standards and ensure compliance on all content materials. Ability to synthesize material into narrative for publications and dissemination to broader audiences.
Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Proofread communications and suggest improvements, should there be any.
Minimum Qualifications
3+ years' work experience in a Communications or Technical writer role. Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Writing or related field from an accredited college or University. Other combinations of applicable education, communication, and experience that provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered. Demonstrated sound judgment in writing and identifying communications content that is appropriate to intended audience and need. Excellent written and oral communication skills; strong technical writing skills Possess initiative, resourcefulness, and adaptability. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Ability to work independently with minimum supervision Exceptionally strong attention to detail Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize, and meet deadlines Strong team player who can work effectively in a distributed team environment and ability to work with a virtual team Excellent computer skills in MS Office applications; knowledge of HTML/CSS and ability to learn technology quickly
