DESCRIPTION OF WORK
As an Engineering Intern, your primary responsibility will be to assist staff engineers and geologists in evaluating the effects of mining operations on water resources. You will be involved in collecting and organizing hydrological and engineering data, which will support the analytical efforts of the engineering and geological teams. This position may require travel throughout eastern Pennsylvania, providing you with the opportunity to encounter various environmental issues. Furthermore, you will play a role in assessing permitted mine sites and, when necessary, aid in site investigations and research related to mine history for the Bureau of District Mining Operations.

Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch

Sandia National Laboratories is seeking enrolled college students at Tribal Colleges and Universities (or students who have officially transitioned from a TCU feeder school) for 2026 undergraduate summer internships, as part of the DOE/NNSA funded TEPP/BEST (Tribal Education Partnership Program / Business Enablers in Science & Technology) summer internship program. Interns will be placed in our Mission Services organization, supporting various business needs of the Laboratories, and partnering closely with the Mission Services Talent Acquisition Team (MSTAT) Summer Internship Program.
We are active in identifying candidates with relevant academic and work experience to provide valuable internships, build a pipeline for possible future year-round internships and/or regular employment, and to meet near-term project deliverables. Selected applicants will be interviewed by a subcommittee of business managers and/or business staff. Subsequently, successful applicants will be matched for placement based on internship interests and Sandia's project needs. Those selected are expected to commit to ten (10) to fourteen (14) weeks of employment over the summer. In addition to a matrix assignment, the program consists of on-boarding meetings, possible group projects, and networking events, among other business activities. Interviews are expected to take place between mid-January and early February 2026.
Interns will be expected to team with others to support Sandia's mission by adding value, improving operations, offering innovative solutions and appropriately managing risk for the corporation. Examples of past team projects include:
Research and recommend ways to leverage technology to improve business products and workflow.

Research and recommend a model for segmenting construction commodity procurement's to proactively address risk.

Security Clearance
This position does not currently require a Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance.
Sandia will conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Interns will work and collaborate with the psychometric and assessment teams of the CBS department to support the AOA's research agenda. Research topics may include exam design and development, administration and supportive validity studies for our certification and osteopathic continuing certification exams.
Responsibilities
Interns will work closely with the psychometric and assessment teams to develop a research plan for the internship.
Over the 10 weeks, interns will attend weekly meetings with their supervisor to discuss progress and address questions, and with one or more research project teams to discuss ongoing work.

Skills and Experience
