2006

In 2006, they founded Marketo.

2008

2008 saw Marketo introduce its first product, Marketo Lead Management.

And it wasn’t until 2008 that they’d released their first product, after struggling to raise funds initially.

2011

In 2011, Marketo was ranked 28th on the Forbes’ Most Promising Companies list and had clocked annual recurring revenues to the tune of $33M

2012

In April 2012, Marketo completed its first acquisition by acquiring Crowd Factory, which enabled the company to integrate social media marketing capabilities into its application suite.

In November 2012, Marketo introduced LaunchPoint, an app and services network for the “marketing nation” of technology partners and professional service providers.

2013

In December 2013, Marketo acquires Insightera, an Israeli company specializing in website personalization, for $20 million in cash and stock.

After multiple funding rounds throughout the years, raising close to $110M in the process, Marketo went public in 2013.

2015

October 2015: Marketo Sales Insights (MSI) is a Salesforce-based tool for sales reps.

2016

Steve Lucas was named the new chief executive officer of Marketo in October 2016.

2017

In June of this year, Vista Equity Partners announced an agreement to acquire Marketo, for a whopping $1.79B, with the move being completed in August of 2017.

In 2017, Marketo was named as a leader in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for CRM Lead Management for the sixth year in a row.

2018

May 2018: Marketo acquires sales automation tool ToutApp.

On September 20, 2018, Adobe Systems announced that it was buying Marketo for $4.75 billion.

As of 2018, these URLs were still not accessible in Lightning.

2019

June 2019: In its Summer 2019 release, Salesforce addresses a JavaScript limitation in Lightning.

The Google partnership was paused in 2019.

2019 also saw CEO Steve Lucas' departure from Adobe, roughly one year after the agreement was signed.

2020

January 2020: Bulk actions are now available in Marketo Sales Insight!

2021

2021 saw Abode named a leader in the 2021 Gartner Magic Quadrant for B2B Marketing Automation Platforms.
