Description of Work
Employees are assigned to state facilities such as an area alcohol and drug abuse treatment center (ADATC), a state psychiatric hospital, a state developmental center, or a correctional facility. Employees assist clients with substance use disorders with development of cognitive, behavioral, social, and vocational skills through the use of counseling, behavioral and case management interventions. Work involves screening clients who are referred for addictive and/or psychological disorders. Employees use standardized tools to screen clients, conduct intakes and orientations, and complete assessments (social, educational, cultural, psychological, physical, career, and familial histories). Employees provide behavioral intervention therapy related to criminal related behaviors and attitudes for those clients involved with the criminal justice system. Employees may serve as an interface between mental health providers while continuing to provide substance use disorder counseling. Employees may collaborate with other healthcare professionals on more complex cases to facilitate continuity of care.

Working knowledge and application of the substance use disorder processes, including psychological and physical withdrawal. Working knowledge of psycho pharmacy and drug interactions. Working knowledge of medical terminology, disease processes, and treatment related to decisions regarding clinical interventions and appropriate therapies based on medical and psychological diagnoses. Thorough knowledge and application of therapeutic approaches including group dynamics, crisis interventions, and family therapy, and behavioral intervention therapy for substance use disorders. Thorough knowledge of community support groups and resources for individuals with substance use disorders. Skill in evaluating and screening clients for appropriate treatment and referrals. Skill in formulating clear, goal oriented treatment plans, and concise record documentation. Skill in developing and maintaining interpersonal relationships to include effective oral and written communication with team members, clients, and other healthcare providers. Ability to recognize co-occurring disorders and make appropriate mental health referrals while actively continues providing substance use disorder counseling. Day in the Life of a Substance Abuse Counselor
• Provides individual counseling to highly complex patients
• Conducts clinical assessments to appropriately assess patient's treatment needs

Schedule and Hours
Our clinical team enjoys an early morning schedule with early afternoon out times. It is expected for all clinical team members to participate in our Saturday rotation. The frequency of this rotation is determined by the current staff count. Expected hours for this role are 37-40 hours per week.
4:45 AM - 1:00 PM, Monday through Friday
6:00 AM - 8:00 AM, rotating Saturdays
Education and Experience requirements
General experience working with underserved populations in a clinical setting.
Lived addiction experience is a plus.

This SAC position is located at the DART Center (Goldsboro, NC). This is a 300-bed residential treatment facility responsible for the delivery of chemical dependency treatment services to probationers sent by the courts and parolees released from the State Prison System and transitioning back into the community. The Alcoholism and Chemical Dependency Program (ACDP) staff plans, administers and coordinates chemical dependency screening and substance use disorder treatment services within the Department of Adult Correction. Substance Abuse Counselors are the front line for the prison treatment programs for ACDP. They develop, implement and coordinate treatment plans for each client. Other responsibilities include intake, assessment, gathering social histories, conducting treatment progress evaluations, documenting in OPUS and preparing discharge summaries. SACs also assist clients in developing recovery plans and community support, as well as maintaining appropriate participation and progress in attaining treatment goals.

Your Impact: As a Bridging Families Child and Family Therapist, you will be a critical force in guiding children and families through therapeutic interventions grounded in evidence-based practices and trauma-informed care. You will shape treatment plans that help children and their families overcome trauma and navigate complex emotional needs. By working closely with families, treatment teams, and community partners, you will provide essential therapy services that lead to lasting, positive change. Bridging Families' teams include professional foster parents, a dedicated licensed clinician, a care manager, and a supervisor. Bridging Families' teams partner with no more than three participating families which allows for intensive focus. Hiring Range: $53,000 - $68,000K annually, $3000 SIGN ON BONUS
Associate Licensed - $53,000 annually.
Salary is based on education and experience. All associate licensed therapists will start at $53K unless there is additional relevant experience in the human service field (excluding internship).

Education/Experience/Licensure:
Must have a valid and active license in one of the following areas: Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC), or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT); fully licensed preferred; Provisional or Associate License required.
Experience as a therapist working with children and families in foster care is preferred.

Expertise in family systems theory, attachment parenting, and trauma-informed therapy.
Knowledge of evidence-based therapeutic practices.

Key Responsibilities:
Provides services and support to the whole family (Bridge Parents, Reunifying Caregivers, and Youth), with focus on the reunification process.
Technical Knowledge/Clinical Expertise: Learn and implement the Bridging Families treatment approach, providing individualized and family therapy to children in foster care. Complete comprehensive assessments, develop treatment plans, and deliver therapy in alignment with evidence-based practices.
Treatment Leadership: Lead client staffings, attend treatment team meetings, and provide clinical oversight to ensure quality services. Collaborate with other therapists and participate in clinical supervision.
Crisis Support: Be available for on-call rotations to support families in crisis situations and provide guidance during emergencies.
Program Development: Engage in committee work and community projects to enhance programs that meet the needs of children and families. Serve as a referral source for additional agency or community services.
Documentation: Ensure accurate and timely documentation of services, including billing, reauthorizations, and session notes, adhering to licensing and accreditation standards.
Interpersonal Communication: Foster positive, problem-solving relationships with clients, colleagues, and community partners. Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills.
Training and Education: In coordination with the Clinical Director, evaluate staff training needs and provide education on mental health diagnoses and treatments.
This position may involve contact with clients and/or family members who are hostile, resistant, or violent.
This position requires a flexible work schedule to match the needs and availability of families.
