Responsibilities

Overview
Summary: Under general supervision, is responsible for professional case management supervisory work of average difficulty; and performs related work as required.
Distinguishing Features: This is the first full supervisory class in the DCS Case Manager job series. An employee in this class is responsible for the supervision of staff who are providing case management services for children under the State's supervision, in State custody, or at risk of State custody, and their families. This class differs from DCS Case Manager 3 in that an incumbent of the latter performs lead level case management work. This class differs from DCS Team Coordinator in that an incumbent of the latter is responsible for managing operations and programs in a regional or field office or multiple/large residential programs and supervises members of this class.

Identifies, reviews, and compiles data from multiple sources to recognize trends in the child welfare and juvenile justice systems.
Reviews and monitors ongoing assessments of subordinates to ensure quality case management.
Analyzes data, response time, overdue reports, CFTM, placement reports, resource home reports, EPSDT and dental, face-to-face visits, review mega-report through use of Sharepoint and Excel to track child welfare outcomes.
Approves required assessments in a timely manner (e.g. Family Functional, CANS, YLS, FAST, etc.).

Engages with staff, children, and families to build a trustful relationship.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
This is a stand-alone position in the Wellness Series. Provides a range of assessments, diagnostic, therapeutic, and/or case management services for police officers, civilian staff, and/or their families, as appropriate to the specific expectations of the position. Provides counseling to police officers, civilian staff, and/or their families during and following crisis situations.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions:
Provides counseling as needed to police officers, civilian staff, and/or their families and refers them to community resources, services, or specialists as applicable.
Develops treatment plans with behavioral and situational objectives.
Conducts follow-up counseling on a weekly or biweekly basis as indicated by the needs of the individual receiving services.
Keeps abreast of current techniques and procedures used in handling crisis situations. Gathers information about community mental health needs or resources that could be used in conjunction with treatment. Performs administrative duties including maintaining confidential records and writing detailed reports.
Acts as a liaison between the police department, local mental health agencies, hospitals, and other applicable organizations.
Instructs police trainees, civilians, and officers in identifying and recognizing indicators of distress or trauma in those who may be in need of mental health, wellness, peer support, or mentoring services.
Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND TRAINING
Education and Experience
Master's degree in a field of Behavioral Science, such as Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
Two years of clinical counseling experience in a mental health related setting.
An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the job's essential duties.
License and Certifications
Possession of a valid driver's license.
Current certification or licensing from the state of Tennessee in a counseling related field at the Master's level or above.

Physical Requirements:
The work is sedentary work which requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:
Feeling: Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature, or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.
Fingering: Picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.

Program Overview:
Intercept , developed by Youth Villages, is an evidence-based intensive, in-home program that focuses on keeping families together by preventing out-of-home placements or facilitating reunification after such placements, including foster care, residential treatment facilities, hospitalization, or juvenile detention centers. It is one of the first programs to receive the well-supported designation from Title IV-E Prevention Services Clearinghouse developed in accordance with the Family First Prevention Services Act (FFPSA) having been shown to reduce out-of-home placements and accelerate permanency for children.
This program serves youth from birth to age 18 who are facing serious emotional or behavioral challenges or have experienced trauma, such as abuse or neglect. Services are provided by highly trained Family Intervention Specialists directly in the family's home and community-Intercept is not an office-based program.
Intercept provides intensive, strength-based support tailored to each family's unique needs, ultimately helping them achieve lasting change through evidence-based mental health interventions, along with the development of new parenting and communication skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Family Intervention Specialist:
Carries a caseload of 4 to 6 families
Holds individual and family sessions with each family 3 times a week, scheduled at the convenience of the families
Conducts on-going assessment of youth to determine their needs from a strength-focused, solution-based perspective
Attends 3 weekly meetings (individual, team, and clinical consultation) for professional development to help enhance clinical skills
Drives up to 60 to 80 miles to meet with families in their homes and communities (additional travel may be required)
Collaborates with other providers, case workers, and courts to formulate a collaborative treatment plan
Provides on-call crisis support to the youth and family (schedules vary by location)
Completes accurate and timely documentation in an electronic medical record system (EMR)
Performs other duties as assigned

Schedule is flexible and non-traditional as it is based around the availability of youth and families served.
Applicants must possess a current, valid driver's license, an automobile for work purposes, and proof of auto insurance.
Community-based staff will be reimbursed for applicable mileage.
