Program Summary
Natchaug's Joshua Center Programs treat children as young as six and as old as 17 who are struggling with psychiatric or substance abuse issues, but do not require inpatient care. Services Include: Comprehensive assessment, which may include: Comprehensive aftercare planning, family, group, and individual therapy, occupational and creative rehabilitation therapy. Natchaug Hospital provides transportation from school to the Joshua Center Program, and then to the student's home.
Job Summary
Behavioral Health Clinician works in coordination with interdisciplinary teams to organize, prepare, and deliver evidence based clinical services in the Child/Adolescent Outpatient department. Clinical services include individual, group and family therapy.
Key responsibilities of Behavioral Health Clinician:
Conducts a comprehensive bio-psychosocial assessment and establishes a care plan, as appropriate.
Provides direct patient care that may include case management, care coordination, interdisciplinary collaboration for care transition needs, crisis intervention/safety planning, counseling, and emotional support to patients and families coping with illness, trauma, or end -of-life care, referral and discharge planning.
Refers patient to appropriate levels of care and available resources that promote the individualized care plan.
Maintains timely patient-centered documentation that reflect the patient and client systems' pertinent information for assessment, interventions and outcomes in accordance with regulatory licensing requirements and third-party agencies.

Qualifications

Program Summary
In the Adult Partial Hospitalization Treatment and Intensive Outpatient Treatment programs, we focus on creating a therapeutic environment where people can learn strategies for coping and improve their functioning. Each client's treatment plan is centered on group therapy which allows for sharing of experiences while gaining support and validation. When people need intensive, comprehensive treatment for psychiatric and chemical dependency issues but do not need inpatient or residential hospital care, Natchaug offers intensive, structured clinical treatment in programs that may include up to six hours of treatment a day, five days a week. These intensive treatment programs can help prevent the need for hospitalization. They can also help people make the transition to home after inpatient or residential treatment. Natchaug brings this clinical care closer to people's homes by offering programs throughout Eastern Connecticut.

Provides supportive care to patients, such as participating in conversation, recreational activities, and basic living activities. This may include assisting patients with bathing, eating, and other daily living activities. Sets limits, confronts counterproductive activities and behavior, and reassures and orients patients. Encourages and facilitates appropriate interactions between patients.
Records all appropriate information on patient charts; prepares regular reports describing each patient's mental status and functioning, as well as significant interactions. Reports and documents overt, covert, verbal, and non-verbal communications by patients.
Provides support and education to family members and significant others regarding the patient's status. Works with representatives of outside agencies in obtaining or disseminating information on individual patients. Participates in discharge planning and referral, if necessary.

CLINICAL THERAPIST ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Quincy Police Department Summary: The Jail Diversion Clinician (JDC) is a "Co-Responder" with police officers for calls involving mental health crises. The JDC performs interventions and assessments to determine appropriate dispositions for services, arrests, diversions from arrest, diversions from unnecessary emergency department visits, or some
combination of criminal justice/mental health treatment involvement. The JDC also facilitates training for
police officers to increase competencies in intervening with mental health crises. The JDC serves as the liaison
between Quincy Police Department, community providers, and emergency services to build strong community
partnerships; optimizing treatment options and resources for those served.
Job Functions:
* Provides on-scene clinical evaluation and assessment, crisis intervention, and de-escalation, to
* individuals experiencing a mental health crisis. This happens alongside police during live crisis call
* scenes, or on a follow-up basis.
* Clinically determine whether the individual meets criteria for involuntary transportation to Emergency
* Department (ED) under MGL c. 123, section 12(a).
* Coordinate with receiving ED facility and their clinical team to provide relevant information regarding
* individual that was transported under section 12(a) and to ultimately learn disposition (i.e. discharged or
* leveled for inpatient care).
* Provides training to police personnel regarding mental illness, substance use, trauma spectrum disorders,
* and other behavioral health topics as identified.
* Will demonstrate de-escalation techniques, strategies and interventions to police in an effort to reduce
* risk and lead to positive outcomes.
* Works in collaboration with police to ensure that persons experiencing a mental health crisis are
* appropriately diverted from the criminal justice system and/or unnecessary ED visits, and referred for
* appropriate mental health services.
* Works in collaboration with community providers when high risk crisis treatment plans or interventions
* are necessary.
* Compiles and submits monthly statistics in accordance with DMH reporting requirements. These
* statistics will include numbers of people diverted from arrest, numbers of people who met criteria for
* section 12(a), numbers of people diverted from emergency departments, numbers of people engaged in
* telephonic and/face to face follow-up, and total number of people seen. These statistics will be reviewed
* in the monthly collaborative meeting with community providers and stakeholders.
* Attends all regular scheduled meetings with DMH, Police, Aspire Emergency Services team (ESP) and
* additional agencies as required.
* Acts as primary liaison between community providers, Police, ESP and other agencies as needed.
* Establishes and maintains regularly scheduled and as needed contact with the Court Clinicians to
* optimize appropriate dispositions and outcomes.
* Establishes and maintains regularly scheduled Community Police Collaborative meetings of all
* Stakeholders and community providers.
* Other duties assigned per the Police Departments as needed.
Minimum Knowledge And Skills Required: Minimum of one-year experience in a crisis intervention setting or related field placement in crisis intervention setting.
