On March 30, 1913, the Evangelical Deaconess Society was founded in Marshalltown, Iowa, by the Rev.
In 1914, the first patient was admitted to the Evangelical Deaconess Home and Hospital, known today as UnityPoint Health – Marshalltown.
1917 – First class of Evangelical and Community School of Nursing graduates
Otis R. Wolfe, M.D., and Frederick L. Wahrer, M.D. founded Wolfe Clinic in Marshalltown in 1919.
1926 – East wing expansion project doubles size of facility
1944 – Nursing school adds residence housing for students
1969 – Hospital begins ambulance operation in partnership with Marshall County
In 1984 our surgeons were among the first in Iowa to perform keratorefractive surgery for myopia.
1985 – Acquired family medicine clinic in Tama/Toledo
1986 – Acquired family medicine clinic in State Center
The Ottumwa Regional Health Center was sold in 2009 to a Tennessee-based chain.
That shift was made after a Tennessee chain bought the hospital in 2009.
Skiff Medical Center in Newton was purchased in 2015 by the Des Moines-based Mercy system.
2018 – UnityPoint Health – Marshalltown Foundation purchases new ambulances for $400,000
