Mr. Nitze is the President and CEO of Nitze-Stagen and Co. (NSCO), an integrated real estate investment and property management firm with a portfolio of properties located in the greater Seattle market that offers unique expertise in the areas of commercial office, retail, and multifamily properties, including adaptive reuse. Together with its partner, Housing Diversity Corp., NSCO has been a leading developer of projects in Opportunity Zones, bringing housing and commercial space to underserved neighborhoods that is attainable for middle-income tenants.The company's work is guided by its founders' vision of building vibrant, sustainable communities in the Puget Sound region which enhance the lives of their residents, while respecting and preserving their historical and natural environments. A leading example of how the company has worked to fulfill this vision is the redevelopment of the Starbucks Center from a large, functionally obsolescent Sears warehouse into a one-of-a-kind mixed use facility blending retail, office, R&D, warehousing and distribution functions. In addition to revitalizing an historic Seattle landmark, this project has served as a catalyst for the growth and development of the SODO neighborhood.Mr. Nitze brings 25 years of experience in the successful management and growth of companies at every stage of development to his current role. Before joining NSCO, he worked in operations and general management in small, medium and large enterprises producing high-speed machine tools, inertial guidance systems, optical interconnects, bioengineered compounds and other high-tech products. Most recently he served as COO of Martek Biosciences where he played a leading role in transitioning the company from an early-stage biotech venture into a mature $500M business leading up to its sale to DSM in 2011. Since arriving in Seattle, he and and his wife, Lisa, have become active angel investors in local companies serving the housing and health care segments, and share a strong interest in creating effective ways to promote and facilitate impact investing. Mr. Nitze’s volunteer activities include serving as a member of the board of Bellwether Housing, a not-for-profit focused on creating housing affordability in Seattle.He received his B.A. from Harvard and two Master's degrees in engineering from Stanford.
