Santiago Elementary School company history timeline

1903

In 1903, our original school--a classic, two story brick building--was built on the corner of 16th Avenue and Summitview Avenue, and it was named Summit View School.

There are vintage photographs displayed in the hallway near the office that depict the evolution of our school building from 1903 to the present.

1921

In 1921, our school board changed the name of Summitview School to Roosevelt to honor Theodore Roosevelt, the 26th president of the United States, after a visit to our city.

1952

In 1952, the building was leased to the Government for use as an "Air Defense Filter Center" and its final use was as an education site for the developmentally disabled adults in the city.

When Ben Franklin Junior High School opened in 1952 the current building was converted into an elementary school.

1970

The building on the right of the picture was addition to Roosevelt built in the 1970's.
