Burcham Hills is an upscale senior living retirement community located in the backyard of Michigan State University in East Lansing, MI. We currently have vacancy for a Memory Care Recreation Assistant to work a Full Time schedule.
Lead the residential neighborhoods daily recreation and activity program to meet the specific needs of each of the residents. Ensure residents lives are maintained and enriched to the fullest extent possible by leading both group and one-to-one activities. Provide leadership and assistance in planning, directing and evaluating the ongoing life recreation program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Plan and implement a monthly calendar for assigned neighborhood; includes providing small and large groups and one-to-one programming for residents who cannot participate in a group setting.
Participate as a member of the multidisciplinary team in the development, implementation and evaluation of the care plan. Confer formally and informally with other team members in coordinating the total recreation program of the resident.
Complete and maintain accurate records of the resident s participation in and response to the activities as specified in department protocol.
Monitor resident response to recreation. Modify care plan or approach to treatment as indicated by resident needs and standards. Adapt recreation to meet the individual needs of the resident.
Assist in coordinating and facilitating special events for the entire community.
Provide transportation for residents to various community locations. Comply with CDL/chauffeur s licensing procedures and state and federal DOT procedures.
Qualifications: Prefer coursework in various aspects of eldercare, recreation, event planning or related subjects. Experience working with geriatrics in a long-term care, assisted living or other related residential health care setting. Ability to obtain chauffer s driver s license. Excellent driving record. Commercial driver license may be required. Ability to work extended or flexible hours, as necessary. Ability to read, write, speak and comprehend written and oral instructions in English. Willingness to handle difficult situations involving residents.

LIFE ENRICHMENT ASSISTANT
Under the direction and leadership of the Life Enrichment Program Manager according to PACE Southeast Michigan's policies and procedures. The Enrichment Assistant assist and work directly with the Life Enrichment Therapist helping participants engage in meaningful day center activities. Activities are not limited but may include arts and crafts, outdoor activities, exercise, music and other special activities/events.
Responsibilities
Lead and facilitate group and individualized programming and activities for participant that are designed to meet the social, intellectual, physical, and spiritual needs and interest of each participant.
Assist with escorting participants to activities and community outings.
Assist in the development of the monthly activities calendar and special events.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education: At a minimum high school diploma or equivalent exam.
Experience: Minimum of 1 year experience in a social or recreational program, of which was full time in an activities/life enrichment program in a healthcare setting for the elderly. Activity Assistant Certification is a plus from a recognizing body such as NCCAP, or NAPPCC is plus.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to meet physical demands of lifting and moving 5- 10 pounds per job assignment. Must be able to walk and stand for long periods of the time per job assignments. Able to transport wheelchairs per job assignment.
Skills
Must possess effective written, verbal, and non-verbal communication skills. Proficient in the use of computer and technology systems. Must be very outgoing, energetic, and able to engage participants in leisure activities. Professional conduct, high-achiever, emotionally intelligent/and aware. Able to engage with large room volumes. Education of Alzheimer's Disease & Dementia is a plus. Event-planning experience is a plus. Able to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment.

LIFE ENRICHMENT ASSISTANT
Under the direction and leadership of the Life Enrichment Program Manager according to PACE Southeast Michigan's policies and procedures. The Enrichment Assistant assist and work directly with the Life Enrichment Therapist helping participants engage in meaningful day center activities. Activities are not limited but may include arts and crafts, outdoor activities, exercise, music and other special activities/events.

Lead and facilitate group and individualized programming and activities for participant that are designed to meet the social, intellectual, physical, and spiritual needs and interest of each participant.

Qualifications
Education: At a minimum high school diploma or equivalent exam.
Experience: Minimum of 1 year experience in a social or recreational program, of which was full time in an activities/life enrichment program in a healthcare setting for the elderly. Activity Assistant Certification is a plus from a recognizing body such as NCCAP, or NAPPCC is plus.

PATIENT CARE
Develops a therapeutic relationship with patients.
Performs assigned patient care tasks in a thorough and timely manner under the supervision of the nurse.

Observes and documents significant patient behaviors, 1:1s and assigned tasks in a timely, accurate, effective manner.
UNIT MAINTENANCE
Supports the operation of the unit by completing assigned tasks such as inventory, stocking and cleaning of patient care areas.
Assists with regulatory checks as delegated.
Demonstrates ability to provide excellent observation and interventions skills through the completion of close observations, 1:1s and prevention of elopement and/or falls.
SAFETY
Is observant of patient demeanor and interactions. Intervenes to de-escalate potentially dangerous situations. Under the direction of RN implements physical restrictions.
Protects patient by removing all unsafe items from the milieu.
Understands and demonstrates competency in providing 1:1 care for patients in seclusion or restraint.
-High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
-College level psychology courses preferred
-Current BLS for the Healthcare Provider completed by 60 days after hire required
-Experience working with mentally ill adults preferred
-Experience working in a health care facility preferred
-Knowledge of medical terminology preferred
