RN, Registered Nurse- Inpatient Operating Room
Mercy Health 4.4
Grand Rapids, MI jobs
Mercy Health's surgical suite/OR currently consists of 16 beds and was just recently renovated. This is a newly renovated area. We also have a Hybrid operating room is a surgical theatre that is equipped with advanced medical imaging devices such as fixed C-Arms , CT scanners or MRI scanners. ?These imaging devices enable minimally-invasive surgery, which is less traumatic for the patient. Minimally invasive means that the surgeon does not need to cut the patient open completely in order to access the body part he wants to perform surgery on, but can insert catheters or endoscopes through small holes. Though imaging has been a standard part of the OR for a long time in the form of mobile C-Arms , ultrasound and endoscopy , these new minimally-invasive procedures require imaging techniques that can visualize smaller body parts such as really thin vessels in the heart muscle and can be facilitated through intraoperative 3D imaging .
An RN in this area could expect to provide the following services.
Before a surgical procedure:
-Responsible for ensuring that the OR is set up correctly
-Set up the surgical area, laying out instruments and supplies according to the surgeon's preferences
-Checks all equipment needed during the procedure to verify that it's functioning normally
-Verifies the patient's identity and necessary consent forms and then reviews the site and nature of the procedure with the OR team
During the operation:
-Provides the surgical team with sterile fluids and medications as needed
-Replenishes the surgical team's supplies if they need additional disposables or instruments
- Patient advocate while they are incapacitated during surgical procedure
