Maryland Environmental Service has an opening for an Archaeologist II within the Technical and Environmental Services Group. This position will be located at the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) offices in Baltimore, Maryland. The Archaeologist will provide support to the cultural resources section at SHA and will work under the direction of SHA's Cultural Resources Team Leader. The position will normally work Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., although the schedule may be adjusted with the approval of the section leader. MES may also support part-time teleworking schedules up to two (2) days per week upon approval and successful completion of a six-month probationary employment period.
Duties involve conducting and eventually planning in-house cultural resources evaluations and reviewing consultant work products to ensure compliance with federal and state laws and regulations. The cultural resources professional will help prepare archaeological assessments for SHA projects, coordinate the assessments with external parties, develop scopes of work, and review work product and proposals. Field work such as visits to project sites may be required but overnight travel is not expected.

Maryland Environmental Service has two openings for Environmental Field Technicians to join the Technical and Environmental Services Group. One position will support stormwater structure inspection and maintenance, sanitary system inspection, oil/water separator inspection, aircraft deicing fluid collection and monitoring, recycling collection & processing, assistance with the collection, compilation, and review of data for environmental science, engineering, and/or construction activities at Baltimore Washington International (BWI) and Martin State Airports as well as providing similar support to MES client facilities located throughout the state.
This position is located at the MES facility at the BWI Airport. The other position will be located at the State Highway Administration offices in Hanover, MD and will support statewide data collection efforts, operating field vehicles and equipment, perform field analysis and sampling, record keeping duties for documentation and report preparation, data entry, performing minor equipment maintenance and repair, and completion of daily logs and tracking sheets. These positions consist primarily of field work and requires the ability to work non-standard hours, overtime, nights, weekends, holidays, and during adverse weather conditions.
