The Adult Education and Workforce Development Division of Catholic Charities of Boston offers comprehensive, high-quality educational services to advance and accelerate the academic achievement of adult immigrant learners who face significant barriers in their search of viable career pathways and self-sufficiency. Beyond offering comprehensive ESOL instruction, the Adult Education Centers provide specialized training across key industry pathways, including healthcare, human services, and information technology (IT), alongside dedicated college and career readiness programming, with flexible schedules and distance learning options.
The ESOL Teacher provides English instruction, academic advising, and personalized support to students; develops up-to-date curriculum materials following student needs and goals; and works collaboratively with the Program Director and Education Center team.
The position includes 6 hours of in-person teaching and 3 hours of remote instruction via Zoom per week, along with 4.5 hours of weekly preparation time and 2 hours of administrative responsibilities, for a total of 15.5 hours per week. This is a part-time hourly position that operates on a 36-week academic schedule. Must arrive on site by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Class sessions run from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Weekly check-ins will be scheduled at the discretion of the program.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Teach ESOL to adult students, levels and/or industry focus vary by class and program
Conduct initial and on-going assessment of students, including BEST and TABE Class- E
Participate in staff development
Integrate technology and digital literacy skills in the class curriculum
Provide classroom instruction and educational advising
Develop curriculum materials including daily lesson plans which meet best practice standards and focus on communication skills
Maintain students' records in agency reporting tools
Facilitates student access to other educational, skills training, and/or higher educational programs, including their requirements and other information
Implement strategies for obtaining student feedback and incorporate data in new course offerings and staff professional development
Comply with funder requirements and policies, including DESE standards for Adult Education Center classes
Work is performed in a classroom/office environment interacting with students with the use of computers and other office equipment. May stand or sit for prolonged periods.
Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
Attend all internal and external meetings and trainings as required

QUALIFICATIONS
A bachelor's degree in education or related field, or teaching certification and commensurate work experience; master's degree preferred.
A minimum of 3 years of teaching experience in a similar environment strongly preferred Strong working knowledge of educational theory and best practices
Demonstrated ability to work effectively and compassionately in a culturally competent manner, with students of a wide variety of backgrounds, skill levels, race and ethnicity with varying level of English language skills
Technology skills - knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) required, Google Classroom and Zoom experience preferred
Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

MassDEP is seeking a highly experienced and dynamic environmental laboratory professional to serve as Director of the Division of Environmental Laboratory Sciences (DELS) and of the historic Senator William X. Wall Experiment Station (WES), the Massachusetts state environmental laboratory facility in Lawrence, MA within the Bureau of Planning and Evaluation (BPE). The Experiment Station was established in 1887 and the facility now houses the MassDEP DELS, the MassDEP Bureau of Air and Waste (BAW) Air Assessment Branch, and the Industrial Hygiene Laboratory and staff of the Massachusetts Department of Labor Standards.
DELS operates three major laboratories - the Environmental Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory, Environmental Organic Chemistry Laboratory, and Environmental Microbiology and Toxicology Laboratory - that generate scientific information/data from the analysis of environmental samples and other activities that directly support MassDEP's mission to protect human health and environmental quality and serve as critical links in the state's disaster and homeland security preparedness efforts. DELS serves as the state principal drinking water laboratory as required for primacy under the Federal Safe Drinking Water Act. The Division also includes the Laboratory Quality Assurance and Data Management Unit as well as the Massachusetts Environmental Laboratory Certification Program (LCP) for in state and out-of-state environmental chemistry and microbiology analytical laboratories. Together, all DELS laboratories/programs constitute the Massachusetts State Environmental Laboratory.
The Director of DELS and WES is responsible for managing and supervising all the operations and activities of the Division and Station facility, respectively, with the assistance of the following direct-reporting senior management/leadership team:

Essential Job Duties for this Position Include but are not limited to:
Managing and supervising all environmental laboratory scientific operations and activities conducted under the three major DELS laboratories in order to consistently provide timely high-quality environmental laboratory analytical data required to support the goals, objectives, and overall mission of MassDEP programs and regional offices, including the investigation and prosecution of environmental crimes.
Managing and supervising laboratory quality assurance and data management activities - involves the independent overall Quality Assurance (QA) Program for all DELS laboratories conducted under the Deputy Director for Laboratory Quality Assurance and Data Management.
Managing and supervising the DELS and WES Facility Administration - includes fiscal management of the DELS and WES Facility Cost Center operating budget and management of the entire DELS and WES facility physical plant conducted under the Deputy Director of Administration. Coordination of facility management needs with the Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance (DCAMM).
Managing and supervising the DELS Laboratory Certification Program (LCP) - includes management of the certification of commercial and municipal and other government laboratories located in Massachusetts or in other states conducted under the LCP Director. There are currently 89 commercial and municipal and other government laboratories located in Massachusetts or in other states that are certified by the LCP for the analysis of potable and/or non-potable water for microbiological and/or chemical contaminants/parameters.
Managing and supervising the DELS and WES Facility Health and Safety Program - includes management of the DELS and WES facility environmental health and safety, building safety equipment inspection, laboratory safety, and biological safety programs conducted under the DELS and WES Health and Safety Officer.
Coordinating DELS laboratory services with MassDEP programs and regional offices - includes exploring opportunities to further integrate DELS laboratory services with MassDEP programs and regional offices and help design new laboratory testing to support their environmental monitoring programs.
Developing, implementing, and validating new analytical methods for PFAS and other emerging contaminants in support of MassDEP programs and regional offices.
Developing and effectively implementing program plans for further improvements in laboratory equipment and facilities of, and services provided by, DELS laboratories under the direction of the ORS Director and BPE Assistant Commissioner, and in consultation with other MassDEP program and regional office senior staff, as appropriate.
Providing timely high-quality technical support (e.g., reviews, guidance, etc.) to MassDEP programs/regional offices and other partners on environmental laboratory sciences and environmental monitoring issues.
Participating in MassDEP's research enterprise under the direction of the ORS Director and in consultation with other internal MassDEP and external research collaborators to ensure that DELS maintains the analytical capabilities to provide critical laboratory support and other necessary scientific support for research studies conducted by MassDEP, including research studies co-developed and co-directed by DELS.
Participating with other collaborators in the presentation and publication of research study results in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
Serving on the Massachusetts Interagency Committee on Fish Toxics Monitoring and Assessment as the DELS representative.
Serving as the Massachusetts environmental laboratory representative and Massachusetts environmental laboratory associate institutional member on the Northeast Environmental and Public Health Laboratory Directors Consortium (NEEPHLD) and on the Association of Public Health Laboratories (APHL), respectively.
Collaborating with environmental and public health laboratory professionals from other states, U.S. EPA and other federal agencies, and MA-certified commercial and municipal laboratories on environmental laboratory matters, including data quality assurance, laboratory emergency preparedness, laboratory accreditation, and laboratory data reporting, through participation in committees, meetings, and other activities of APHL, NEEPHLD, and the MassDEP Laboratory Advisory Committee (LAC).

Under the direction of the Parks and Recreation Supervisor and Program Coordinator, the P&R Counselor is responsible for the direct supervision of program participants and P&R Aides. The P&R Counselor is also responsible for the implementation of age-appropriate activities. The P&R Counselors are expected to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants.
Essential Functions:

Work with the Somerville community by running daily program activities. Lead youth and SPR Aides in a variety of Recreation activities specifically, but not limited to sports, arts and crafts, drama, music, DJ programs, STEM programs, Recreation special events, and teen center programs.
Meet regularly with Program Coordinators to set schedule, review daily, weekly, and monthly progress.
Act as a positive role model for all Parks and Recreation participants and Works with groups to ensure active participation during program activities.
Responsible for opening and closing procedures for Parks and Recreation facilities.
Assist with taking daily attendance of participants.
Assist the Aide's with cleaning and maintaining program area.
Report any issues or concerns that may arise to Recreation Supervisor
Explain principles, techniques, and safety requirements to activity participants to prevent injury.
Recommended Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma required; strongly preferred for applicants to be enrolled in a college or university majoring in recreational studies, sports management, education, or physical education. Minimum of one to three (1-3) years of work in recreation or similar field; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
Special Requirements: First Aid/CPR and AED (training will be provided to incoming employees)
Knowledge, Abilities and Skill:
Knowledge: Knowledge of a variety of recreation modalities. Knowledge of the scope and goals of the City's recreational programs. Knowledge of sports, games, arts and crafts, and other subjects of interest.
Ability: Ability to work within a team. Ability to handle problems and emergencies effectively; ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing with a wide variety of stakeholders; ability to maintain confidential information.
Skill: Strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Excellent conflict resolution and communication skills.
Work Environment
The work environment involves everyday discomforts typical of offices, with occasional exposure to outside elements. Noise or physical surroundings may be distracting, but conditions are generally not unpleasant. Employee may be required to work beyond normal business hours in response to attend evening meetings or complete work assignments. Work in the field involves regular exposure to outside elements.
