Assembles, portions, labels, restocks foods for cafeteria services. Provides appropriate and hospitable service to customers. Maintains sanitation of cafeteria. Performs warewashing duties. Assists in training of other food service workers.
I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Prepares area for food serving. Sets up steam tables and service areas with hot food items, salads, desserts, fruits, breakfast foods, etc. Prepares and portions salads and desserts. Slices meats and prepares deli items i.e. sandwiches, mixed salads, cheese, etc. Replenishes food items as necessary. Makes coffee. Participates in cafeteria special events.
2. Serves food in prescribed quantities according to food service standards.
3. Takes temperatures before and during meal service.
4. Informs production if a menu item is running low.
5. Stocks cold supply before, during and after each meal service.

Position Purpose:
Under the direction of the Food Service Director, Kitchen Manager and building Principal, to assist in food preparation, meal service, and clean-up, and maintaining an orderly and safe atmosphere in the cafeteria. The candidate must be willing to work with others and interact with students. Must be neat in appearance and exhibit dedicated work habits. Must comply with safety and sanitation regulations as prescribed by law. Must be able to lift/move up to 40lbs without restrictions. Must comply with dress code as designated by the Food Service Department. Must be competent working with computers, email, and operating a cash register.
Essential Functions:
Assists in food preparation and documentation of production and food temperatures as necessary
Assists in service line setup, break down, and clean-up
Maintains cleanliness & sanitization of counters, food prep stations, tables and surrounding areas
Assists in serving meals during breakfast and/or lunch mealtimes
Assists students with orderly food purchases, distribution of food, disposal of food waste, and return of trays and utensils
Operates district issued point of sale system (computer software/register)
Checks student trays/meals to ensure all offer vs. serve requirements are met
Assists with the tracking of daily temperature records of cold storage units and reports any issues to the Kitchen Manager
Demonstrates the district's high standards of customer service, working cooperatively with co-workers, school staff and administrators, and students

* Sets up food service, kitchen, or salad area facilities, equipment and utensils, under detailed instruction and, in accordance with specific area needs; checks food temperatures and/or prepares areas for daily operations; may operate cooking or bakery equipment as assigned.
* Conveys food and supplies from the main kitchen, bakery, and/or salad preparation area to the serving site either by carrying or by utilizing a motorized cart.
* Follows prescribed procedures in setting up hot and cold food lines; ice cream, yogurt, and/or ice machines; chooses proper utensils and sets steam line to appropriate temperature for menu items.
* Prepares or assists in the preparation of hot and cold meat and vegetable dishes, beverages, salads, sandwiches, pie fillings, simple bakery items, salad dressings, and/or other similar food items, as appropriate to the position.
* Serves food items to customers from counters and/or steam tables, in accordance with specific instructions, ensuring that appropriate portions are served, and adds relishes and garnishes according to instructions.
* Replenishes foods, silverware, glassware, dishes, and trays at serving stations; may order and replenish condiments.
* Attends to day-to-day problems and needs concerning equipment and food supplies; detects and ensures disposition of spoiled or unattractive food, defective supplies/equipment, and/or other unusual conditions.
* May clean, wash and maintain work areas, including floors, facilities, pots, pans, service ware, utensils, and equipment; collects and places garbage and trash in designated containers; as appropriate to the area of operation.

• Works under general supervision of a Food Service Supervisor and follows established procedures and job flows.
• Assembles trays for patients.

Report any problems w/equipment or refrigeration to supervisor. May be assigned to breakdown and clean POD refrigerators, tables and condiment containers. Will be assigned to clean and polish stainless steel, reach in coolers and freezers.
• Delivers food trucks to patient floors as assigned. Assures all food trucks are placed in their gallies and secured. Picks up food tray trucks from patient floors after each meal period. Delivers outpatient/inpatient breakfasts, lunches & dinners (boxes or meals) to Emergency Department, Blood Bank, APS, Ellison 2, etc…as needed.
• Pick- up and Store supplies from the DSC. Rotates all stock according to First In First Out (FIFO) procedures.
• Sweep and mop tray line area and hallway. Remove all accumulated trash to refuse area.
• Remove empty milk and bread creates to the DSC.
• Answer telephone calls and report all needs to the supervisor.
• Handles food, supplies and equipment in a manner that meets federal state, local and The Joint Commission regulations.
• Must be customer service oriented and meet all guidelines of patient rights and patient confidentiality

Performs a wide range of duties involved with preparing and/or serving foods and beverages in one or more of a variety of food service environments

Essential Functions
-Sets up food service, kitchen, or salad area facilities, equipment and utensils, under detailed instruction and, in accordance with specific area needs; checks food temperatures and/or prepares areas for daily operations; may operate cooking or bakery equipment as assigned.
-Conveys food and supplies from the main kitchen, bakery, and/or salad preparation area to the serving site either by carrying or by utilizing a motorized cart.
-Follows prescribed procedures in setting up hot and cold food lines; ice cream, yogurt, and/or ice machines; chooses proper utensils and sets steam line to appropriate temperature for menu items.
-Prepares or assists in the preparation of hot and cold meat and vegetable dishes, beverages, salads, sandwiches, pie fillings, simple bakery items, salad dressings, and/or other similar food items, as appropriate to the position.
-Serves food items to customers from counters and/or steam tables, in accordance with specific instructions, ensuring that appropriate portions are served, and adds relishes and garnishes according to instructions.
-Replenishes foods, silverware, glassware, dishes, and trays at serving stations; may order and replenish condiments.
-Attends to day-to-day problems and needs concerning equipment and food supplies; detects and ensures disposition of spoiled or unattractive food, defective supplies/equipment, and/or other unusual conditions.
-May clean, wash and maintain work areas, including floors, facilities, pots, pans, service ware, utensils, and equipment; collects and places garbage and trash in designated containers; as appropriate to the area of operation.

High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred
Experience
food service experience 2-3 years preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control.
- Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions.

- Ability to understand and follow safety procedures.
- Ability to safely use cleaning equipment and supplies.

Essential Job Functions: Responsibilities and Standards
Perform defined work routines, using various dietary utensils, supplies and equipment as assigned by Dietary Manager and/or Cook
Provide assistance to the cook in preparation and service of meals
Follow federal and state long-term care regulations and Dietary Department policies and procedures
Follow cleaning schedules and perform cleaning duties as scheduled
Set up dining room and serve residents
Wash and store dishes per proper procedures.
Follow defined infection control procedures and safety codes
Treat all residents and families with respect and courtesy
Knowledge, Skills, Experience Required
High school diploma preferred
Previous food service experience preferred
Must have the ability to read and write in English, understand an follow recipe directions, diet orders, tray cards and work assignments.
Ability to perform routine, repetitive tasks with frequent interruptions.
Numerical ability is necessary for recipe preparation and proper measuring of cleaning agents and chemicals.
