Assistant Teaching Professor - Design: Interior Architecture and Design College of Visual and Performing Arts University of Massachusetts Dartmouth The College of Visual and Performing Arts (CVPA) at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth invites applications for a non-tenure-track, nine-month renewable position as an Assistant Teaching Professor in Interior Architecture and Design (IAD), beginning September 1, 2026. The teaching load is six courses per academic year.
We seek a dynamic and innovative designer-educator committed to student success and contemporary design education. The ideal candidate will possess strong design skills, professional expertise across diverse environments, and the ability to integrate current professional practices with emerging technologies. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to teach design across the IAD curriculum and to incorporate contemporary methods into instruction. In addition to teaching undergraduate courses at all levels, the appointed faculty member will contribute to curriculum development and assessment, advise students, engage in service at the departmental, college, and university levels, and foster a collaborative approach to both practice and pedagogy.
The Interior Architecture and Design program provides students access to dedicated computer labs, a color and lighting lab, material resource room, woodworking shop, and a printing and Media Center. The program also benefits from strong connections to community partners, industry professionals, and alumni, which enrich both teaching and professional practice.
Minimum qualifications:
* A terminal degree in Interior Architecture and Design such as a PhD, MFA, MID, MArch, MS (60 credits), or MA (60 credits) or an appropriate master's degree in Interior Architecture and Design or a closely aligned field is required.
* At least five years of professional practice experience
* Relevant professional certifications (such as NCIDQ, RA, LEED, AKBD, or NKBA).
* Demonstrated proficiency in current industry methods, technologies, and practices;
* Expertise with industry-standard software including Revit, Enscape, AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Adobe Creative Suite;
* An active record of scholarship or professional achievement.
Preferred qualifications:
* Experience teaching at the college level and a documented record of student success in Interior Architecture and Design.
* Professional certifications relevant to the field
* Engagement with professional organizations or practice
* Record of service to academic or professional communities.
UMass Dartmouth's Interior Architecture and Design Bachelor of Science program is a designated STEM major and the only CIDA and NASAD accredited program at a public university in New England. Job Description
The University of Massachusetts Amherst Department of Theater seeks a full-time non-tenure track Lecturer of Lighting Design, with the position slated to begin September 1, 2026. This is a two-year initial appointment with the possibility of renewal. Specializing in lighting design, the successful candidate will be a committed teacher and an impressive professional practitioner who will bring experience and vision to the Department. The successful candidate will be an excellent collaborator with the expertise and knowledge to teach lighting design at the graduate and undergraduate level.
Responsibilities: Develop and teach foundation and advanced courses in lighting design and drafting; contribute other specialties to complement departmental offerings; oversee the lighting design of the department's main stage season, which includes the mentoring and supervision of student designers; collaborate with all production areas and work closely with the lighting shop staff including the Stage Lighting Supervisor.
Requirements
MFA in Lighting Design or terminal degree in related field by time of hire; demonstrated excellence in teaching lighting design at the college level; substantial experience as a professional lighting designer at the regional and/or national level; evidence of ongoing creative achievement; an ability to collaborate across disciplines and build community partnerships; a working knowledge of the technical aspects of lighting. Projection and/or video design experience are desirable.
Salary Information
The University of Massachusetts Amherst expects to pay within an approximate range between $65,550 and $77,473 for this position. The specific pay for this position will be determined by the University based on consideration of all relevant factors, including faculty rank and required or relevant certifications, when and if it decides to extend an offer of employment.

* The low-end of the pay range in all faculty searches at the University of Massachusetts Amherst is the minimum salary for the rank included in the collective bargaining agreement between the University and the Massachusetts Society of Professors, UMass Amherst/MTA/NEA.
* The high-end of the pay range reflects an increase above the median of salaries at this rank within the department for faculty who may have multiple years of faculty experience.

Job Summary
The Assistant Provost for Instructional Design, Engagement and Support (IDEAS) oversees the development and implementation of innovative strategies and educational practices that align with the strategic goals of Academic Affairs for online and in-person education.
