Together they deliver high‑quality anesthesia care for a diverse caseload that includes routine to critical patients across small and large animal services

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Veterinary Technician III - Anesthesia to join our dynamic anesthesia team. In this advanced clinical role, you will not only provide high level technical support, you will also have a vital role in teaching and mentoring veterinary students, interns, residents, and fellow technicians in a collaborative academic environment. The Foster Hospital for Small Animals is home to one of less than 30 veterinary dialysis facilities in the United States. The Dialysis Center service has expanded over the years to an extracorporeal therapy service providing not only hemodialysis treatments but also therapeutic plasma exchange for immune mediated disease as well as hemoperfusion treatments for emergent toxicity cases. For small patients requiring treatment, Cummings School is the first veterinary school in the country to have a Carpediem enabling treatment of patients weighing 2-10kgs. The Dialysis service is currently supported by two full-time VTS (ECC) technicians, one of which is also a VTS (SAIM) and is seeking another experienced and talented technician to join their team.

What You'll Do
Under the direction of the Internal Medicine veterinarians, the Hemodialysis technician works as a part of a team performing extracorporeal therapy services as well as providing intensive care to the services' inpatients. The Hemodialysis technician will perform and assist in all areas of patient care in this section including but not limited to; placing central IV catheters, sedating patients, placing dialysis catheters, feeding tubes, initiating treatments, monitoring and performing serial patient assessment and bloodwork. In addition to managing patients during treatments, the Hemodialysis technician provides integral support to the inpatient teams by providing intensive and advanced patient care to patients receiving extracorporeal therapy and support to all hospitalized internal medicine patients.
The Veterinary Technician III performs advanced and more specialized technical procedures with limited direct supervision from the attending veterinarian or a supervising technician. Under minimal supervision, the Veterinary Technician III makes decisions and provides advanced veterinary patient nursing care, respecting the directions of the attending veterinarian. The job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
* Provide patient care and client support for the Reproductive Medicine service across equine, farm, and companion animal settings
* Assist with admissions, client communication, documentation, estimates, and discharge instructions
* Set up, assist with, and clean up after reproductive, diagnostic, and emergency procedures while monitoring patient status
* Manage clinical and laboratory operations, including equipment, samples, semen processing, supplies, medications, and safety protocols
* Support teaching and research by supervising students, assisting with labs, ensuring compliance, and contributing to research activities

Required Qualifications

The Equine and Nemo Farm Animal Hospital seeks a veterinary technician who can demonstrate a team-based approach and mindset. Works closely with the surgeons, anesthesiology, imaging and other members of the surgical team to provide a safe comfortable environment where the patient receives the highest standard of care
Assists in management of the daily flow of surgeries which includes, but is not limited to, communicating across the services, preparation of the surgery rooms with equipment and supplies, assisting with the anesthetic inductions, patient positioning, surgical clipping and preparation, and transporting patients to surgical suite.
Assists the surgeons, surgery house staff and students with scheduled and emergency surgical procedures.
Acts as circulating technician during procedures
Maintains and troubleshoots equipment malfunctions during surgical procedures
Ensures that patient charges entered in the Hospital's Information System are complete and accurate.

Required Qualifications
Associates degree in Veterinary Technology from an AVMA accredited institution or equivalent experience, plus New York State Licensure or eligibility to be licensed.
At least 1 year of relevant experience preferably in an OR setting.
Excellent communication, team building and organizational skills.
Able to work with multiple large animal species, not limited to equine and bovine.
Must be able to work in an often fast-paced and demanding environment, while paying close attention to details.
Must have the ability to meet the physical demands of the position, which include, but not limited to, stressful situations, prolonged standing and kneeling, lifting and restraining animals that may exceed 50 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience in a medical or veterinary office preferred.

Maddie's Shelter Medicine Program (MSMP) is launching a new initiative to expand access to veterinary care for underserved communities in Tompkins and surrounding counties. We're seeking an exceptional LVT to help make it happen.
Our faculty clinicians and LVTs mentor veterinary students and interns as they deliver top-quality care in shelter, clinical, and community settings. The LVT team provides surgical and technical support for high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter (HQHVSN), soft tissue, and dental procedures, as well as other essential services. Through our accessible care programs, we also offer low-cost preventive care and treatment for minor illnesses and injuries.
MSMP LVTs use their full skill set, one day assisting in surgery, the next working directly with clients, all in a supportive teaching environment. We're looking for a motivated professional with the vision and drive to help lead and grow this new program in alignment with Cornell's core values.
The job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Providing direct client communication with professionalism and empathy, while delivering high-quality, compassionate care to patients and support to their families.
