Pros of working at Massage Envy

It’s a steady paycheck that’s predictable each pay period. They will keep you booked.

Cons of working at Massage Envy

The pay is under market, so it’s a high volume arrangement if you want to make enough to get by and can be very draining.

Pros of working at Massage Envy

Most of the staff is friendly

Cons of working at Massage Envy

Not shown exactly what to do, you’re just thrown into the position and forced to ask other employees to assist you with what you need. I worked there for an entire two weeks using the wrong lotion for massage because I wasn’t showed which lotion was the correct one to use. Also, scheduling their clients in a manner that doesn’t allow time for the therapist time to make the table, get a drink of water, or use the bathroom is not thinking of your therapist health as this will eventually lead to burn out.

Massage Envy Benefits

Giving each of my clients a massage that gave them the relief their body needed to feel good til their next appointment or close to it.

Got any weird customer stories?

Actually, last week, I had a lady who was talking to me and told me she didnt wear a bra. Then she came out of session and was walking out the door to leave when her therapist ran out and said she forgot something.... it was her undies...

I'm studying to be a massage therapist myself (two months from graduation, yay!) do you have any advice?

Congrats! My biggest piece of advice is to get your state certification asap. For example, when I was looking for a job I was 19 years old. If this wasn't crappy enough I'm also a male massage therapist. Something that not alot of people realize is that there's usually a cap on how many males can work at a clinic at one time. This being said there can only be 4 males at my clinic, and there's about 25 females. Since I had my state cert, they didnt have to check to see if I was eligible to be working in the area of my current clinic, and I beat out multiple other male applicants to get the job FRESH out of school. A secondary piece of advice: Be confident all the time. People can really tell and your tips will be alot better.

Do you get offended when people fall asleep at the table? I know you guys say, "Tell me if it's too hard or too soft," but I always get worried you'll be offended if I criticize you. Thoughts?

I personally take it as a complement if people fall asleep on my table. Though I should mention my primary form of massage is very deep, most people couldnt fall asleep if they tried. I don't know a single therapist who doesn't appreciate when a client has some sort of input on the pressure. Everyone is differant when it comes to how much they can handle, and until we have some point of referance the massage can feel like a crapshoot.

Did you ever get a *** messaging a hot chick? Did you ever get a chick wet? Did you ever get a date from your work?

I have never gotten a *** from massaging an attractive client, I stay far too busy to even notice half the time. Not to mention its very dark in these rooms and they lay face down. I dont know if i've ever gotten a chick wet, but a girl HAS left period blood all over my table before (if that counts) I've never gotten a date from a client, but i've never asked either. You'd get fired for that sort of thing and I have too much to lose/a wonderful girlfriend.

What are the pros and cons of being a male in this job that you speak of?

Pro: It's a very gratifying job, pays well (for my age), you gain alot of perspective from having ample time to talk to people you wouldnt ordinarily have conversations with. Con: You feel like your hands are going to fall off at any moment after awhile, creepers are ever present, my anxiety has gotten worse since I spend all day in a dark room in silence, I have very little time for myself, if someone doesnt like your massage right away you're stuck with them for 90 minutes.
