Position Overview
The MassageTherapist provides patients and their families with the natural benefit of physical therapeutic touch through individualized massage therapy services which meet the unique needs of each patient. The MassageTherapists works under the direction of the Manager of Clinical Services in collaboration with the patient's RN Case Manager and according to the individualized Plan of Care.
Essential Functions and Skills
* Provides direct massage therapy at the direction of the Clinical Supervisor or Manager of Clinical Services in accordance with the plan of care.
* Assesses patient and referral for appropriate medical indication for services and performs assessment to determine effectiveness of therapy.
* Directs and aids patients through massage therapy interventions to assist with alleviating symptoms of anxiety, depression, isolation, agitation, restlessness, sleeplessness, pain, muscle tension, circulation, stiffness, contractures, limited mobility, relaxation, and comfort.
* Utilizes interventions such as but not limited to: Swedish Massage, Comfort Touch, Energy work, and compressions.
* Observes and reports the patient's response to treatment and any changes in the patient's condition to the
* Clinical Supervisor or Manager of Clinical Services and other pertinent staff.
* Provides education and awareness to clinical team regarding appropriateness or contraindications for therapy treatment.
* Maintains necessary records; clinical notes, charting, coordination notes, which will be incorporated into the patient's clinical record within 24-48 hours of session and modified as needed.
* Participates in interdisciplinary group and organization in-service education program as needed.
* Participates in the quality assessment performance improvement teams and activities as needed.
* Responsible for maintaining compliance with all HIPAA regulations and requirements. Treats all patient information as confidential and utilizes protected health information on a minimum necessary basis.
* Performs other duties as assigned.

Duties
Performs Medicare claim review portion of internal compliance audits
Conducts internal investigations involving compliance issues
Track corrective action plans related to any adverse findings

Experience/Qualifications
Occupational, Physical or Speech Language Pathologist Therapy License
A minimum of five years' SNF experience
Expertise in MDS/PDPM coding rules and regulations
Understanding of the legal and regulatory framework governing the skilled nursing industry
Ability to work with all levels of management on potentially complex compliance/regulatory issues

A Brief Overview
Provides direct patient care to all patients as well as documentation of care in accordance with policies and procedures under the supervision of a Licensed Physical Therapist. Follows directions and instructions for treatment and other tasks as directed by the Licensed Physical Therapist. Provides care in an effective and competent manner.
What you will do
Follows ethics and standards as defined by the American Physical Therapy Association and Avera policy and procedures.
Follows the practices and standards per the State Board of Medical Examiners for the title of licensed physical therapy assistants.
Provides treatments to patients in an efficient and timely manner in accordance with the PT plan of care and physician's orders.
Communicates with the therapist appropriately to ensure effective treatment.
Produces appropriate, specific, clinical documentation for patient care given and assists with scheduling and paperwork associated with patient care.
Documents progress notes in accordance with departmental policies.
Charges patient appropriately for treatments given on a daily basis under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist.
Assists with paperwork activities, files charts, and other duties, which may include and not be limited to billing, documentation, correspondence and file management.
Assists with clinical education of physical therapist assistant students.

Required Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:
Physical Therapy Assistant - Licensing Board An active license in the state of practice Upon Hire
Preferred Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:
Associate's in Physical Therapy from an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program
Less than 1 year Related experience and/or training

Summary
The Physical Therapist Assistant provides physical treatment procedures to help improve mobility and relieve pain and disability caused by disease or injury under the direction of the Physical Therapist.
General Hours of Work
Primarily daytime hours
Education and/or Experience
Associate degree or equivalent from accredited physical therapy assistant school. Bi-lingual experience preferred but not required.
Certificate, Licenses, Registrations
IA Physical Therapist Assistant Certification required. Must obtain CPR certification within 3 months of hire date. This position requires a valid driver's license and must carry their own automobile liability insurance.
Essential Functions
Acts as an assistant to the Physical Therapist in all patient activities and supervises activities as assigned.
Assists in initial assessment through data collection from a variety of sources such as patient records, interviews, observations, and team members.
Implements treatment programs for individual patients by using selected activities, exercises, tasks, or modalities to promote and maintain health and to achieve patient goals.
Modifies treatment programs as appropriate and necessary within the scope of the overall treatment plan and goals.
Prepares written documentation and other reports as required.
Assists with the identification of the need for adaptive equipment and training in order to help patients regain physical and cognitive functions.
Works cooperatively with other hospital departments to ensure accurate and timely communication of patient needs.
Maintains departmental policies and procedures and quality assurance programs.
Assists with in-service programs to nursing staff regarding PT services as requested.
Recommends and develop new services within the scope of hospital resources.
Assists in the maintenance of department equipment and supplies.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
