Job DescriptionThe Master Technician requires experience and technical expertise to diagnose drivability, air conditioning and electrical systems. It is expected to use leadership and mentoring skills to drive a team to increase customer care and satisfaction A successful Master Technician will have direct interaction with customers and deliver superior service through educating the customer on the problems and proposed solutions for their vehicle.
Duties & Responsibilities
• Diagnose and repair to specifications -- brake and hydraulic, exhaust, primary and/or advanced fuel ignition and electrical, suspension and alignment, air conditioning and computer systems.
• Perform job duties of all lower job descriptions (Technician A, Technician B, Mechanic, General Service Technician)
• Adequately explain technical diagnoses and needed repairs to non-mechanical individuals which may include employees and customers on an as-required basis.
• Continuously learn new technical information and techniques in formal training sessions in order to stay abreast with rapidly changing automotive technology.
• Assist fellow technicians/mechanics in performing technical activities.
• Keep store management aware of mechanical repair problems as they occur.
• Maintain and organized and neat shop
• Adhere to all company policies, procedures, safety, and environmental rules

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

• A High School Diploma or GED
• 5+ years of strong automotive mechanical diagnosis, problem-solving and repair experience.
• 8 or more ASE certifications are PREFERRED for this position (A1 through A8)
• Section 609 Certification required
• State Inspection license if applicable
• High level of motivation, energy and a customer-focused attitude.
• Must have a valid driver's license.
• Successful completion of drug screen
• Availability to work days, nights, holidays, and weekends as needed

Responsibilities

• Perform work specified on the repair order with efficiency and in accordance with dealership
• Test-drive vehicles, and test components and systems, using diagnostic tools and special service equipment
• Diagnose, maintain, and repair vehicle automotive systems including engine, transmission, electrical steering, suspension, brakes, air conditioning, etc.
• Communicate directly with the Service Advisor so that customers are informed if any additional service is needed. Provide an estimate of time needed for additional repairs
• Execute repairs under warranty to manufacturer specifications

Qualifications

• 2+ years of Service Technician experience preferred
• High school diploma or equivalent, ASE Certification required
• B level qualifications, including Diagnostic, Electrical and Engine Repair
• Dexterity, requiring a steady hand, excellent hand-eye coordination
• Mechanical and troubleshooting skills and ability to operate electronic diagnostic equipment
• Excellent customer service skills and basic computer competencies
• Positive, friendly attitude, along with an eagerness to improve
• Enjoy working in a dynamic environment
• Teammate with ability to collaborate with others effectively
• Ability to learn new technology, repair and service procedures and specifications
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record

Job Responsibilities/Description:

• Confer with customers or service advisors to obtain descriptions of vehicle problems and discuss work to be performed and future repair requirements

• Test-drive vehicles and test components and systems using diagnostic tools and special service equipment

• Perform quality inspections of vehicle repairs prior to returning the vehicle to the customer

• Oversee the inspection of automobiles to identify faulty components and facilitate process for repairs

• Supervise the activities of automotive service technicians to ensure efficient job performance and timely repairs

• Diagnose, maintain, and repair vehicle automotive systems including engine, transmission, electrical, steering, suspension, braking, air conditioning, etc.

• Communicate directly with the service advisor so that customers can be informed if any additional service is needed while providing an estimate of time needed for additional repairs

• Execute repairs under warranty to manufacturer specifications

• Attend workshops and study relevant publications to stay up-to-date with developments in the automotive service industry.

• Ensure automotive service staff comply with environmental laws and regulations

• Oversee the procurement of vehicle parts automotive equipment and various other items required in an auto service department

• Evaluate the performance of automotive service staff in order to acknowledge efficient employees and guide underperforming ones

• Listen to client complaints and assist in addressing their issues and resolving challenges

• Oversee the disposal of wastes such as used engine oil, soot to ensure adherence to health and safety laws

Job Requirements:

As a Master Automotive Technician (Automotive Mechanic), you will be experienced and aware of the latest automotive technologies and be a persistent problem solver. We have determined some factors that may enable your success as an Automotive Technician:

• LEVEL 1-3 Honda certification PREFERRED

• 3 ASE Certifications or 5+ years experience required

• Team oriented, flexible and focused on maintaining a high level of customer service

• Must have working knowledge of shop equipment such as wheel and tire equipment, alignment system, diagnostic equipment, AC equipment, etc.

• Must have a valid driver’s license

• Strong communication and customer service orientation: A good mechanic must be able to communicate and relate very well with customers. This quality is very important in conveying information on car condition to customers and convincing them that you are capable of handling the problem. Customers will always feel at ease when complex technical issues are explained to them in plain language that they can easily understand

• Good diagnostic and problem solving skills: A good auto mechanic should be able to quickly identify the source of minor problems manually. For complex problems, using diagnostic tools is important. Also, it is very important that the mechanic is able to fix or offer solution to the problems in real time

• Dexterous and energetic: He/she should be skilled at using complex hand tools. In addition, he/she must be energetic and have the stamina to sit, stand, bend, kneel, and squat while carrying out his/her job

• Educated and certified: These two requirements may not be mandatory, but they are necessary. For one to be employed as a mechanic, he/she must be trained. Going ahead to obtain a recognized certificate like the ASE certificate for auto technicians presents him/her as a true professional.

• Innovative and ability to learn fast: A good automobile mechanic must always be on the lookout for better techniques and tools for carrying out his/her duties. He/she must be able to learn and adapt fast to changes in diagnostic and repair technology.
