MSC General Production Technician
Job Description: Materials Sciences LLC (MSC) is looking for a US citizen to become a General Production Technician. The role of General Production Technician is vital to the continued growth of Materials Sciences LLC and its service in the defense of the United States of America. This role is best served by existing skilled, detailed craftspeople that can advance in our processes from their baseline skillset.
The General Production Technician performs work primarily in an air-conditioned composites (carbon fiber, fiberglass, Kevlar) manufacturing facility. Most processes necessitate some form of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment). While it is desired for employees in this role to work with minimal supervision, they must also communicate effectively with other technicians to complete production objectives in a timely manner. Organizational skills and attention to detail are essential as the final manufactured components are high-performance, requiring skill and precision to correctly produce on-time and on-budget. General Production Technicians are responsible for reporting their progress to a production Team Leader.
All Technicians must be able to stand on their feet for several hours at a time and lift heavy objects up to 50lbs on very occasionally. A high school diploma is a minimal educational requirement, and prior experience in a crafts field, manufacturing or a related field is highly beneficial. Industrial certifications are greatly respected. Note, this role is not the same as an electro-mechanical machine maintenance technician role. This role converts raw materials into composite components and assemblies.

Specific Skills Include:
Ability to interpret SDS (Safety Data Sheets), material supplier specifications, and MIL-specifications.
Ability to apply to convert raw materials into composite components and assemblies to achieve engineering requirements.
Using basic math to calculate, weigh, mix and catalyze paints, finishes, and resins.
Basic computer skills that can be supplemented by additional training as required.
Occasionally lifting 35lbs and infrequently lifting up to 50 lbs.
Supports broader team in the design and fabrication of crates and specialized packaging that protects deliverables all the way through customer delivery.
Other team duties as required.
Working Conditions:
Currently, all production happens on 1st shift. There will inevitably be times when extended work hours or work weekends will be required to complete customer deliveries on time.
Will be exposed to normal manufacturing noise, sanding/fairing debris, hazardous chemicals, are standard industrial equipment that can pose personal danger if safety regulations are not followed.

Must have basic math and mechanical knowledge, manual dexterity, good eyesight and the ability to perform repetitive tasks.

**PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:**
In the Production Associate Welder role, you will set-up and perform metal joining and cutting operations, with ferrous and nonferrous metals such as (steel, aluminum, and cast metals), with or without fixtures, using a variety of welding equipment.

**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:**

- Work from manufacturing information, sketches, drawings, oral or written instructions or prototypes.
- Weld parts using proper machine settings and rod or wire and gas selections as well as fabricate fixtures to aid in the welding process.
- Manually locate details on complex assemblies in welding sequence for a variety of non-repetitive structural assembly fabrication, with or without fixtures.
- Be responsible for quality, including measuring finished parts with tape measure and/or calipers, visual inspections of material, identifying nonconforming parts, and troubleshooting errors.
- Follow detail instructions to ensure precise words and maintain structural integrity.
- Perform routine maintenance and troubleshoot issues with welding equipment.
- Demonstrate strong attention to detail in all aspects of welding process.

**Qualifications:**
**BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:**
- High School Diploma OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
- Must have a welding certification in MIG or Basic Welding (i.e., Piedmont Technical College Basic Welding Certificate)
- Must be able to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now and within the future.
- No relocation benefit is being offered for this position. Only candidates within a 50-mile radius of Greenwood, SC will be considered. Active-Duty Military Service member candidates are exempt from the geographical area limitation.
**PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:**
- Previous experience in sheet metal fabrication including experience with standard punch and bend tooling and processes.
- Previous experience reading blueprints, manufacturing diagrams or drawings, and/or operating instructions.
- Previous experience with measuring devices (i.e., tape measure and calipers)
- Previous experience with ERP systems including DMM and AS-400.
