Job Description
Uncommon High School Math teachers work in grade teams and content teams to push students towards being self-guided learners. Our teachers become experts in their course content, and have a keen sense of how to motivate and inspire high school students. At the heart of all math classes is a deep joy for mathematics. Math teachers use a variety of instructional strategies to cultivate student awareness of how to make sense of, persevere through, and solve problems. At the conclusion of high school, students are prepared for academic autonomy and college preparatory work.
Responsibilities
1. Instruction
You'll use a Math curriculum to teach content that may include Algebra, Geometry, or Calculus and prepares students for Advanced Placement (AP) and collegiate level coursework.
You'll support students as they solve problems and think critically.
You'll use your love of mathematics to foster confidence and meaningful engagement with the subject for students.
You'll cultivate the ability to construct and justify viable arguments using reasoning, math vocabulary, tools, and postulates.
You'll use your passion for mathematics to build a community of self-guided learners where students feel safe, confident, and engaged.
You'll work with the Math department to determine academic and engagement goals for students.
2. Data Analysis
You'll meet weekly with your principal and/or instructional coach to analyze and respond to trends in student work samples and assessments.
You'll learn and implement strategies to differentiate instruction for all learners in your classroom.

You'll build positive relationships with students to ensure they feel seen, loved, and heard.
You'll partner with students' families to ensure appropriate resources are available to support their child's learning needs.

Teacher certification is not a prerequisite for consideration at Uncommon Schools in the state of NJ, but you do need to meet NJ state certification eligibility requirements (a final undergraduate or graduate cumulative GPA of 3.0 for graduates on or after 9/1/16, or 2.75 if you graduated prior to 9/1/16). Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree and course work in Elementary Education or related field;
3-5 years teaching experience;
Experience integrating technology into teaching practice to support learning and deepen projects (Google applications, MacBooks, Promethean Board, etc.); and
A commitment to creating an inclusive classroom community and to working actively to introduce students to diverse cultures, experiences, and perspectives.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Singapore Math and Responsive Classroom.

What's the role
Our Grade 4 ELA Teachers deliver engaging, standards-based instruction, utilize Responsive Classroom techniques, and monitor student progress while collaborating with colleagues to refine teaching practices.
What you'll do

Produce quality Common Core aligned lesson plans
Analyze and regularly review student assessment data - both formally and informally - to drive curricular and pedagogical choices and adjustments;

Provide an inviting, exciting, learning environment using varied instructional techniques that accommodate all learning styles and developmentally appropriate strategies;
Passion for and mastery/deep knowledge in instructional subject area

Who you are
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution required; Masters degree is a plus
K-12 lead teaching experience in a classroom setting is a plus
Experience in urban, public charter, or Title I schools is a plus
Hold PA teacher certification or working towards certification
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Legally authorized to work in the USA
