The Job: SmartStart Education seeks a small group math intervention tutor to work with small groups of elementary school students Monday through Fridays. Each small group consists of 1-4 students. Each group consists of students who have been identified as students who are struggling with fundamental Math skills. Students are from 3rd Grade.
The tutor will work with each group several times throughout the week at an elementary school in Brooklyn, NY. Groups will take place within the classroom (push-in services) or outside of the classroom (pull-out services). Tutors should be flexible and comfortable with both settings. Each tutor will be given the responsibility of taking daily attendance and monitoring student progress using a personal device (mobile phone).
Job Details:
The tutoring position begins promptly on February 3, 2026 and ends on April 16, 2026. The schedule will be Monday through Friday 8am until 2:20pm. Applicants are encouraged to schedule interviews as soon as possible to allow ample time to complete onboarding steps. Failure to do so may result in a position being unavailable.
Salary Range: $174.83 to $192.31 per day.

What You'll Do
The ultimate goal of the Lower Division Wellness and Movement (WAM) program is to have students become physically literate, life-long movement explorers. WAM lessons are designed to create purposeful and meaningful opportunities for movement exploration, creative expression, and close collaboration, while simultaneously teaching science, math, reading, writing, anatomy/physiology, and social emotional skills. Individual, partner and team activities incorporate elements of choice, allow students to set their own goals, build confidence, foster personal growth, encourage communication and allow students to build resilience. To promote the mind-body connection, students are often challenged to think deeply about the topics being discussed in class, both before and after engaging in a movement experience. Students share their learnings in individual and group projects, written assignments and class discussions.
In this role you will:
Lead project-based wellness and movement classes
Collaborate intensively with colleagues across the division and within the WAM team to develop innovative curricula and continually deepen student learning
Ensure that students achieve key learning outcomes, targeting instruction thoughtfully to address individual needs
Build a robust learning atmosphere that leads students to feel part of a rigorous and joyful learning community

Lead an advisory, supporting and mentoring 10-15 students and building close relationships with their families;
Collaborate with faculty, students, and parents to build an innovative, exciting, and effective school model that achieves our mission and impacts education reform nationwide.
Teachers' hours will be 8:15-4:30 daily, with the student academic day running from 9:00-1:30 on Wednesdays, and 9:00-4:30 on other days. Teachers may elect to lead an after-school extra-curricular club or coach a sport for an additional stipend. In the summer of the upcoming school year new teacher PD will begin around July 25th, and the school year will begin in late August.
